5.0 out of 5 stars Go Ahead...Talk...You Can Do It...But Don't Forget To Listen, March 25, 2002

This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
This is such a lovely, lovely, neat little book. It was published in 1997 so I am truly amazed that I am the first person to review it. It is a well-crafted, beautiful "book" even if you look at it just from the physical standpoint without considering its content. It is a small hard cover book printed in India by Sri Aurobindo Ashram Press and the cover and end papers are made by the Ashram. It is a beautiful natural color with bits of plant fiber showing and even smells faintly of plants. The book has interesting vintage illustrations with lots of enchanting atmosphere added by the inclusion of Art Nouveau accents. The writing inside is very homey and gentle and shows a light-hearted reverance for life. Mr. Cabarga is a self-titled plant psychic who discovered as a child, that when he spoke to plants they flourished and also that if he listened with his inner self he could hear them speaking as well. This book has a decidedly "New Age" theme and I for one often find New Age books cloying in their sugary preachiness, but this one is so sincere and humble and genuine that I found myself letting my guard down and fully accepting this gentle person's experiences and lessons in empathy. He shares his inner conversations with many different plants and also a moving conversation with Pan, the god of the Greenwood. The last chapter is a message from Mother Earth channeled by the author. Even if one were to read this book purely as a fairy tale which, ironically, from the standpoint of plant deva consciousness, it actually is, one will be treated to a loving sense of oneness with Nature that is a gift indeed. There is much wisdom in this little volume, some whistful sadness, and great joy. Even if one chooses to regard it as fiction it offers a sensitive and deep look at the green world that cannot help but have an effect upon one's view of the web of life and one's own place within it. I take this book quite literally. I consider the fact that hemin, the red pigment in animal blood, and chlorophyll, the green coloring in plants have chemical structures that are fundamentally the same except where chlorophyll contains magnesium, hemin contains iron. This book illustrates in thoughtful, lyrical prose the same message that this scientific fact reveals, namely that we are all one, we living beings. Discover a wonderful opportunity for relationship that is all around us. This book can open that door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trees, Elves and Fairies, March 31, 2003
By
This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
I loved this book. I gambled on it, just picked it up to see what trees had to say. It was lovely to say the least. I was amazed to hear what a tree had to say when asked "Do you worry?" The tree said "yes...sometimes I worry about the Fairies coming to visit." I thought that was beautiful. I now wonder when the Fairies will get to me:) I have always talked to the trees and other plants. Now I know they understand that I think they are perfect in every way. I just need to pay more attention to what they are telling me.

This book did change my life in one big way. When I put my veggies in the fridge, I tell them thank you for coming to my home to nourish me and my pets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treelicious!!!!, February 17, 2006

This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
This is a moving, and a very informative book.Previously I never gave thought to Nature and saw it as a mere adjunct to us and not as an integral part of Creation. The humans have dominion over nature and so we have the right to lord over it. This is a very unbalanced viewpoint and this book shows that nature too has a consciousness and must be considered to lead a fulfilling life. This little volume is truly marvellous buy it, It is well worth your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars heartwarming, March 24, 2007
This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
This book was deeply affecting to me, and totally reshaped many of my innermost conceptions.

I was totally thrilled when I read in the introduction that Leslie Cabarga's experience with A COURSE IN MIRACLES was a major inspiration leading to his communing with plants. My experience with authors that have been influenced by A Course in Miracles (Doreen Virtue, Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, Ekhart Tolle, Etc) is that they tend to be very genuine and loving souls with a world view quite similar to my own (since I am also very into 'The Course'). For this reason, I felt a special connectedness to the author, along with an added sense of confidence that I could trust in his sincerity.

I think that this (a willingness to trust in the author's sincerity), along with a very open mind, are two factors that can serve to greatly enhance the reader's enjoyment of this book.

If you find, that you are a die-hard skeptic when it comes to believing that plants possess a form of consciousness, I'm not sure I would recommend this book for starters. If you are more of the anti new-ager, 'doubting Tom' type, then these nararratives may come across as a little too "out there" for your likings. In this case, what I would suggest starting with, is a book called "The Secret Life of Plants" by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. It goes into great detail about the sentient nature of plants, but in a much more objective and scientific manner. (And if you're not much of the 'skeptic type', I would still suggest it as a great read, and find it to be extremely complimentary to Talks with Trees.)

What I loved most about this book was that reading through its narraratives would put me into a frame of mind that made me feel like I was entering onto the threshold of some long-forgotten magical wonderland. It reminded me what it felt like to look out at the world as if I were seeing it for the first time,...and helped me to remember the enchanting wonderment of my own childhood.

This book is about so much more than just plants! It's about unconditional love and acceptance, goodwill and promoting a sense of Oneness with all of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Universal Mind, September 15, 2006

This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
Since I have been listening and talking to trees for decades I am convinced Cabarga is reporting what those plants actually are telepathically telling him.

My first communication with plants more than 20 years ago was a spontaneous one, and long before Cabarga wrote his page-turner book.

AT about 2:00 o'clock in the morning while sitting in a chair in deep meditation with my back to a window I sensed someone out of the window was telepathically calling me.

I was able to have an exchange of thoughts with those plants planted as a fence between the neighbor's house and mine.

What did those clever plants tell me?

"We feel unconformable with the lack of love between the two families. It bothers us that you two cannot get along".

I am convinced the plants were actually upset with the friction between the two neighbors. I promised them to spiritually work to enliven the situation.

I am absolutely persuaded all plants, trees, fruits and vegetables are not only entirely conscious and hoping to be acknowledged as such, but without any doubt eager to communicate with humans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming, August 5, 2007

This review is from: Talks with Trees; A Plant Psychic's Interviews with Vegetables, Flowers and Trees (Hardcover)
I ordered this book because I'm really into communication with the devic kindom. I guess it started when I read The Secret Life of Plants (a great name for a great book!). I heard Peter and Eileen Caddy speak of their adventures at Findhorn and later visited it myself. While there, one of my jobs was transcribing Dorothy MacLean's communications with plants. I was blown away! Later I heard her speak. I was an early fan of Machaelle Small Wright's work at Perelandra and managed to make it there....so I'm really into this stuff!

I mention all of this to show that I am a true believer in the possibility of communication with nature intelligence!!

Lesley's communications with plants are very different from the others I've read. He is very funny and asks cute, off-beat questions. I thorougly enjoyed reading every word. The book is presented beautifully with lovely illustrations and gorgeous handmade paper. It's really a terrific book, and a great gift idea for someone who is open to this world.

However, gee, I hate to say this... but I do have a hard time believing that these "messages" are really from the plants. It's not that I believe that plants can't have a sense of humor, but the messages smack more of the mentality of a smart, hip LA guy than a philodrendron or a palm tree.

What is important is the idea that there is intelligence in nature and that it sure doesn't hurt for us to slow down and take time to notice our wonderful green friends. I've had a few conversations with my plants since reading this book and frankly I suspect that I'm making them up, too.

I am not at all accusing Carbaga of fraud. I believe that he thinks that the plants are generating this information. Maybe it doesn't really matter.

If you are sincerely interested in what plants have to say, I heartily recommend Dorothy MacLean's books. Her information was proven to be "true" by virtue of the fact that, when acted upon, the Findhorn gardens flourished in miraculous ways. No one could have made up such knowledge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Book with Great Wisdom, December 14, 2009

While reading this wonderful book at the base of a beautiful old Oak tree this past August, I was not surprised to see a dragonfly fly zoom right onto the edge of the book and rest there as I continued to read.

Leslie honestly documents his conversations with trees, houseplants, flowers, even vegetables- and the dialog wakes mankind up to the fact that ALL living things respond to Love. The book has made me tread more softly on this planet.

I loved this little book because it resonated with Truth. I too get messages from trees. This little book gently guides the reader into a deeper awareness of the oneness of all living things, how we are all here for evolution and service, regardless of what those who are closed to anything they cannot see or touch, may say.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, interesting little book, May 10, 2010
By
This is an unusual, interesting little book containing transcriptions of conversations between the author and various trees, plants and vegetables.

I have previously read communications from devas, but in this case the author also talks with the individual consciousnesses of the various plant beings. This is a first for me.

These plants seem very wise with a knowledge not only of all that goes on in the author's life but also of all that occurs in our human world as a whole, as well as higher matters. They are aware of their higher purpose and as a rule content with their serene, immobile lives.

Read the book for yourself, should you find the topic of interest.
