Still strong because of its fantasy plot,
By Teenreads.com (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tall Cool One (A-List, No. 4) (Paperback)
The fourth book in Zoey Dean's A-List series follows Anna Percy down to the chic resort of Las Casitas, Mexico. Sam, tired of her new stepmother's baby preparations, sneaks off to join her. What could two Juicy Couture-clad teens find in an exclusive vacation spa? Danger, adventure and, of course, hot guys.
Life back in Beverly Hills has a few surprises lately, too. Cammie is falling seriously in love with the innocent Adam. Both are surprised by their enjoyment of picnics and talking in the midst of a world of hot parties. Sam's stepmother Poppy finds a New Age sister in Dee, and even asks Dee to move in with the Sharpes. Anna's parents consider getting back together as they bond over their concern for Anna's sister, newly out of rehab. In Mexico, Anna is determined to learn how to surf, and Sam tries to find a boy who cares about more than getting into her father's next picture. A trip to a small Mexican Village leads to the girls getting lost. They're in serious trouble, but then a group from home jets down to try and rescue them. TALL COOL ONE is fun for the virtual vacation to Las Casitas alone. Reading about the amenities of that resort is delicious. The fantasy plot keeps the momentum of this series going. Fans will enjoy the spring break adventure and wonder what the Hollywood teens will be up to next time. --- Reviewed by Amy Alessio

Even Better,
By Missy Miller "Melodramatic Bunny" (Lancaster, PA United States) - See all my reviews

Zoey Dean makes "The A-List" an even better series with Tall Cool One. Anna Percy struggles with finding herself and becoming her own person with life after Ben. She sees everyone hooking up around her and wonders if a one-night stand would do her any good. I was excited to see Anna and Sam get away to Mexico and away from the influence of everyone in Cali. It was also good to see that Sam is able to in some ways come to terms with being "overweight" compared to the rest of her friends-and to find a hot guy in the process! It is also relieving to see that Cammie is actually a real person; she is not all cattiness and hormones, she does have feelings! The way this book ends is keeping me waiting for more (especially on the Sam front, now that she's found her "prince"!)

A Review Of Tall Cool One,
By zoey "Zoey" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tall Cool One (A-List, No. 4) (Paperback)
I found Tall Cool One by Zoey Dean to be an excellent book. It is the fourth installment of The A-List series. In the first book, Anna Cabot Percy--a wealthy, intelligent, prep school girl-leaves her home in New York to begin a new adventure living with her father in Beverly Hills, California. Over the next two books, she meets many new people and has many new experiences. In Tall Cool One, Anna decides that she needs a break from the ordinary, and she and her friend Samantha Sharpe (along with her father's nightmarish assistant) take off for Las Casitas, a resort and spa in Mexico. Here she encounters even more excitement and ends up having the time of her life.
Tall Cool One is well written, funny, interesting, and suspenseful. I think that the book moves at a perfect pace-slowly enough to understand, but quickly enough to avoid boredom. It is a book that would appeal mainly to middle and high school girls. I found it very entertaining and had difficulty putting it down. Other books that you may like if you enjoy Tall Cool One are the rest of the A-List series-The A-List, Girls On Film, and Blonde Ambition-all of which are written by Zoey Dean, The Clique by Lisi Harrison, and Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn. Finally, I think that all girls between ages 12 and 18 should read this novel and will enjoy it.

Then again, its......,

I really loved this book, its awesome! Well, its mainly about Anna who is in a chic resort in Las Casita, Mexico. Sam, who tired of her step-mother's baby preparations, sneack off to join Anna. Back in Beverly Hills, Cammie and Adam take their relationship to a whole new level. Cammie is deeply falling in love with innocent Adam. Sam's step-mother, Poppy, finds a New Age sister, Sam's best friend Dee and asks her to live with the Sharpes. Anna's parents are considerating getting back together as they concern for Anna's sister, Susan, newly out of rehab. Back in Mexico, Anna is determined to learn how to surf. Sam is totally stressed out about school, boys and family. Sam tries to find a guy that likes her for who she is and not for her father. Anna & Sam meets a handsome guy name Eduado, who happens to be Sam's prince! Anna & Sam both meets guys who like them for who they are, and when they do... A trip to a small Mexican Village leads the girls to getting lost. They're in serious trouble, but luckily a group from home, jets down try and rescue them. Sam & Anna travels in a jet back home and just when Sam thinks she will never see Eduado again, he shows up and suprises her. It really is a "happily ever after" ending. I really can't wait until I read the 5th book, The A-List series are making me want to go farther than I expected. I think this is a excellent & determined book for everyone to read!

Good enough but could have been better,
This review is from: Tall Cool One (A-List, No. 4) (Paperback)
Well I think the title of the review more than says it all. While I loved the first half of the book and found it quite promising, I have to say I was quite bored with the second half and that might be because it was dominated by the Anna/Sam storyline. Since the second book, I've consistently found Anna quite boring. I was thrilled to see that this book we were spared the "every guy is obsessed and in love with Anna" bit. That said, her and Django make an interesting storyline and I for one am interested to see where it goes.
That said I do like how genuinely close she and Sam have gotten and I have loved Sam the most since the first book, with all her crazy insecurities. That storyline (their friendship) was well fleshed out in this book. Nice to see Sam finally getting a genuine guy interested in her. Well what can I say about Dee, other than she needed the straight-jacket as far back as the first book. That said she makes excellent comic relief with her complete ditziness and spaciness. Finally the Cammie and Adam storyline. Since the first book I kind of wanted a Sam/Adam hook-up so I was slightly bothered to see them going this route in the last book. However by the end of Blonde Ambition, I was sold on it and continued to be in this book. I like how Cammie isn't suddenly a saint, as she still clearly hates Anna and tries to bug her and still makes her catty comments. In fact, one of my favourite lines in the book was Adam's comment to her to put the evil twin back in her box. She's still that out of control, viscious teen except that she's fallen for a great guy who makes her WANT to be better or at least try to be and I find that quite endearing. Honestly I think their storyline was probably the best written in this book. Whew, so after this long speech, I'd say if you're a fan of the other three, Tall Cool One while not the greatest in the series, won't be a complete disappointment.

Trisha's Book Blog Review,

This book started out slow for the first chapter, then it picked back up again, then it went down hill again. There were many times I was going to close the book and be done with it, but I ended up finishing it. This is the fourth book in the A-list series. I was told that you didn't need to read them in order and the way the book was written I believe that.
A problem I had with the book was the celebrities popping up all over. I know this is an A-list book directed towards celeb city but just the way the celebrities are mentioned in the book really annoyed me and it took me a couple of pages to get back into the book. For example, Sam's young step-mother is pregnant and she wants to name the baby Ruby Hummingbird. Then down the page it says; "Sam found the name very affected but knew the kid would fit in fine in a town where girls were named Rumer, Coco, and Apple." This just annoyed me for some reason. The way the book is written you know that the girls have money but you don't see them as these high society people who hang out with the celebrities. So when a Celeb name is mentioned you think, Where did they come from? The book did pick up towards the middle/end when it was just Anna and Sam and it got funny. I wish the rest of the book would have been written funny like the end. But it is like the author got funny in the middle/ end of the book and no where else. I also wish at the end the guy would have been for Anna and not Sam because Anna's relationship was left hanging at the end.

Zoey Dean's best work yet!,
By Andy "your average reader" (Ashburn, Virginia) - See all my reviews

Zoey Dean is at it again in her novel Tall Cool One as the fourth book in the A- List series. In this book, Anna goes on vacation to Las Casitas in Mexico to check out a resort that her father might buy. Back home Poppy, Sam's stepmother is getting ready for her baby, and her best friend Dee, becomes best friends with Poppy, agrivating Sam, so Sam goes to Las Casitas. There the two girls each meet a guy, but one day after drinking a very powerful drink, mescal, the girls get drunk and lost on the beach. Then a thunderstorm comes and the girls take shelter in an abandoned mansion, where they are awaken the the Mexican police getting ready to kill them, until Jackon Sharpe comes to save the day. In the end the girls get home and Anna is upset because her dad didn't come to look for her. In my opinion this was my favorite book in the series so far. Zoey Dean really keeps her readers interested with this book, and I would definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series to teen readers.

I am typicall an A-List Fan but I believe there was far too much fantasy in this book. Especially towards the end when they got lost in that city. Hopefully the Next One will be better.

where's ben!?,
This review is from: Tall Cool One (A-List, No. 4) (Paperback)
Tall Cool One was an exciting edition to the A-List series, finally redeeming the series for me. Anna and Sam head off to Las Casitas, Mexico, where they both find a great guy, and a little bit of trouble. Cammie and Adam try to take their relationship to the next level, and Dee continues with her craziness. No Ben, but still really good!
