At first glance, Lacy Mason appears to be a money hungry, cowboy hating woman. In actuality, she's struggling to get through college as well as the single mother of a very sick little girl with enormous hospital bills. Working in bar full of cowboys isn't her idea of a good time but she needs the money. Besides, she enjoys running the mechanical bull and watching as each of the cowboys gets tossed.
Wyatt Anderson is a full time Vice President at a major corporation. He's also a retired cowboy who enjoys entering some events in the local rodeos on the weekends. Even though Wyatt hates greedy women, something about Lacy intrigues him. Wyatt may be a retired cowboy but he possesses the determined cowboy spirit all the time and never backs down from a challenge especially when it's the form of one little stubborn woman. Lacy's attracted to Wyatt from the moment she spots him in the bar where she works. She doesn't need any more complications in her life and definitely doesn't want to get involved with a cowboy. She's even more impressed when she fails to toss him from the mechanical bull. Lacy answers one of his taunting comments with a proposition of her own. Lacy wants just one night, to be held and cared for just for a little while. Wyatt sees Lacy sneak out of the bar and assumes she is running out on him, he has no way of knowing about her daughter's fight for her life or the struggle Lacy faces each day just to keep going and not give up. When he approaches her after her phone call, he realizes that there's something that she's very upset about, there's a hidden depth to the woman and he fully intends to discover all her secrets. Lacy's determined that she can only allow herself one night of pleasure with Wyatt. Wyatt isn't going to let her escape so easily. What will he do when he learns about Jessie's illness? How long is Wyatt going to wait before telling Lacy that he isn't a full time rodeo cowboy? A TALL DARK COWBOY is a heart wrenching story that will grab the reader's interest from the very beginning. Both characters make assumptions about each other based on outward appearances that couldn't be more wrong. I am impressed by Lacy's inner strength and determination. I could feel her worry over her daughter, Jessie's, condition, as well as her guilt for having to work when she feels like she should be with her daughter. Wyatt is everything you could hope for in a man. He's unbelievably sexy, dominant, and supportive. Mackenzie McKade has once again brought two very unforgettable characters to life through her stories. This is definitely a book well worth reading as are all Ms. McKade's books I've read so far. A Tall Dark Cowboy,
By Kelly "Reviewer for The Sinfully Sensuous" (Littleton, Colorado) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

Lacy Mason leads a very hectic life. She is balancing college classes, raising a daughter with a life threatening illness, and working at the High Country Bar to support it all. She doesn't have time for men and turns them away at every opportunity until she comes face to face with sexy Wyatt Anderson. He breaks through her armor, but she can only afford one night with him. She just wants one night to be like everyone else and escape her multitude of responsibilities and burdens. Wyatt is intrigued with Lacey, and is determined to find out why she appears to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. He is used to getting what he wants, and decides Lacy is it.
A very sensual book with two great characters in Lacy and Wyatt. There is also a good story intertwined with Jessie's illness. What a great combination.

I was really looking forward to reading this book and was completely let down. It showed promise of being hot, and then fell short of that promise within the very first love scene. The sex was so boring I actualy found myself saying "yadda-yadda, get on with it" The dialogue between the characters is completely unbelievable and there was no foundation established to make it reasonable for them to get from one emotional plaine to the next. The problem is that I believe Mackenzie can write, there was such promise in this book, but it felt as though she was rushed along and that she just wasn't invested enough in this story to make it believable. Sorry to be so harsh, but after shipping and handeling I paid fifteen bucks for a book I didn't care enough about to even finish.

Don't believe the one star review. I really liked it!,

I really liked this book, for a sexually romantic book, of 225 pages in a modern day setting. It has a good believable story, although not written with a lot of depth, yet it balances the amount of sex and story throughout the pages very well. There is a lot of sexual and emotional tension without having sex, and when they get down to sex it is titillating even with their quickies in the parking lot and back storage room. You really want the two character to get and stay together. Don't believe the one star review that complains it is rushed through with Yadda- Yadda boring sex. If you rate the book based on the sex on the rector scale, this book shakes just enough with many little after shocks. It's not the big one if you're looking for that. The main focus is on why Lacy holds back her feelings and emotions after having a one-night stand with Wyatt and not wanting to get involved with another cowboy. Yes the story speeds along fast, and the sex scenes aren't all long in length, but there is plenty of sexual tension and sexual moments varying in length throughout the book. This isn't a 400 plus page novel that has room for long hot foreplay, or a sequel to keep you going, or dirty forbidden erotica. It's an average length romantic novel that sells with 225 pages of what most women have on their nightstand. This is a good read that I truly enjoyed. For longer length books with hotter sex, try author Megan Hart "Dirty".

Lacy Mason has a rule: No More Cowboys. She plans to stick to her own
personal decree even though every part of her being wants to be with a man tonight if only to help her forget that her daughter is ill and in desperate need of a heart. Lacy is standing firm on this rule until she claps eyes on gorgeous cowboy, Wyatt Anderson. Wyatt is tall, and dark, and he has a package wrapped in Wranglers that any woman would love. Though Lacy does her best to disregard him, Wyatt refuses to be ignored and proceeds to set Lacy's insides on fire. Meeting Wyatt after her shift ends, Lacy experiences with him the most sensual, erotic sex she has ever known. Protecting her heart and sure that the encounter is just a one-night stand, Lacy sends the devastating cowboy on his way almost before the sheets cool. What Lacy doesn't know is that Wyatt refuses to bow out of her life without a fight. Wyatt Anderson, Vice President of Dunbar Semiconductors, and retired rodeo cowboy, can't believe his eyes or his heart. Spotting Lacy, Wyatt is instantly entranced and knows that he won't sleep tonight until he tastes the beautiful woman. His dream comes true and he and Lacy have explosive, bone-melting, satisfying sex throughout the night. The next morning, everything comes screeching to a halt when Lacy makes it clear, this was just a one night deal. He doesn't understand why Lacy is willing to just walk away. Wyatt doesn't want to let her go but; until Lacy is prepared to open up to him, he may have to do just that. There is nothing better to me than a cowboy in love with his woman and wanting to take care of her without stealing her independence. Wyatt is that type of man. I instantly fell in love with him as I began to read. The further into the book I got, the more I loved him. And he didn't disappoint me. As for Lacy, she is strong, yet vulnerable; independent, yet needing comfort. Both characters completely swept me away. As for the love scenes, they simply made me melt. A Tall Dark Cowboy is a must read. A MUST read! The more Mackenzie McKade writes the better she gets, and A Tall Dark Cowboy shows her writing talent from beginning to end. I could not put this book down until I finished. Then, I found myself going back and picking it up again, just in case I missed something. It goes without saying that I highly recommend this book. Whether you are a fan of westerns or not, A Tall Dark Cowboy will make you tingle! Natalie S.

Lacy Mason finds it hard to concentrate on her job with the sexy cowboy Wyatt watching her. She knows that this waitress job is the only way to earn enough money to pay for her college tuition and her daughter's medical bills, while having a place to live and eat. Now, if she could only remember why she swore off cowboys for good as she ignores the scorching looks from the cowboy.
Wyatt Anderson is drawn to Lacy from his first glance at her in the High Country Bar, and he is determined to have her. He is used to getting what he wants, and what he wants is Lacy. Wyatt wants to learn what secrets drive Lacy to being so cautious and guarded at times, while seeming so certain and open at others. Mackenzie McKade has created another fantastic story that totally pulls you into the world she has created. This story has a compelling storyline that is heartfelt and sincere while providing some of the hottest love scenes that you will find anywhere. A Tall, Dark Cowboy is an adventurous read that will leave you spellbound with its sensuality. Lacy is a character to whom readers can relate, with her perfect mix of vulnerability and stubbornness. Wyatt is a strong, self-assured man who shows his warm and gentle side. When these two characters come together in such perfect chemistry, it is sure to leave you wanting more. A Tall, Dark Cowboy is most definitely a Recommended Read. By Tammy Fallen Angel Reviews

I really liked this short story. I've had the book for about a week now and I have already read this like 3 times, at least. I liked how realistic Wyatt and Lacy's situation was. She had a job on the line and so didn't he, I think that the romance novels tend to forget that. This book was a great read. I liked how Lacy truly wanted to be happy, but was not afraid to drop the F-Bomb here and there. This is not a full day read, so don't expect to have as much action as a Harry Potter novel, but this is a excellent afternoon read, you will definitely be giggling away like I was. This is not a smut book and the parking lot scene with a tail-gate was very memorable. I think the characters interacted really well. I have already let my best friend borrow this book. 5 stars!

I was very pleasantly surprised at this story. The characters were well developed and the story moved along perfectly. The dramatic bits weren't overdone and the stubbornness of the characters didn't irritate (as it often does with romance/erotica). That's not to say the characters didn't fight, but they admitted when they were wrong and didn't drag it out unnecessarily. The daughter's illness was handled realistically and didn't overshadow the relationship developing between Lacy and Wyatt.
I will definitely be keeping this one and recommending it to anyone wanting a good, hot read. But I won't be lending out my copy! |
