great seeds- if prepared correctly...,

This review is from: Tall Single Blend Nasturtium Seeds - 3g (Baby Product)
I've planted all the varieties of Nasturtium that Botanical Interests offer and after much trial and error and research, I realized the best way to get these seeds to germinate is NOT to soak them, as the packet recommends, but to cut away ("nick" or "scar") part of the seed. The seeds are sort of like little walnuts, and the key is to nick away part of the hard tan shell surrounding the seed and scrape away some of the dark brown membrane under to expose the white inside of the seed. If you do this before you plant them, and bury them in some semi-moist (NOT soggy) soil, you'll have great luck.
As far as height for this tall climbing variety, I haven't been growing them long enough to tell how tall they will grow, but the sprouted seeds are growing in both sunlight and shade and like moist soil. Good luck!

These plants need to be in a sunny area all the time. I planted a few around our patio, the ones in the semi-shady area soon wilted and died, some were very small and never matured. A couple were directly under the sun are doing beautifully and have flowered as well. I tried the leaves (these are edible) and they almost taste like rocket leaves.
Hardly need any tending.

Only 6 seeds from the 36 in the packet germinated...it has to be my fault.
When these 6 bloom I'll decide if I'll ever plant this vine again. |
