5.0 out of 5 stars educational and fun all in one!
I run a home daycare, and also have older children. They all love this toy and better yet, no one knows it's educational and great for motor skills. My kids use it as patterning, building and constructing, and more. My toddlers love the bright colors and my 12 year old can't get enough! It's used every day! Great toy, thanks!

We purchased this item as a Christmas gift for out two year old and our other boys (ages 11 yrs., 7 yrs., and 4 yrs.) have played with it more than our two year old! So, it's been enjoyed by all! We're glad we made the purchase! Thanks so much!

I run a preschool and daycare program and I purchased this toy to augment the existing peg boards and pegs that we currently have. I think the concept is great however the materials are lacking especially for the price. The base board is thick enough to support the pegs and building however the platform pieces are very thin. My kids were super excited to play with the set but we've already had several bouts of tears because unless they keep the pegs in alignment with the lower level pegs, the structure collapses. Maybe this is a great way to teach building structure concepts for older children, but for preschool aged children, it has become an exercise in frustration. Also, the pegs are not compatible with other pegs found at teacher supply stores so the sets cannot be mixed together. Since this product just arrived I have no comment on the durability of the platform pieces but honestly, I am not that optimistic.

My 9 year old just informed me that if the platform pieces were thicker, the pegs wouldn't connect with each other. For this price, why not make the pegs slightly longer and the platforms thicker? Oh well, I think it is important to note these are not compatible with other peg sets purchased elsewhere, only with Lauri brand peg sets.

For my needs, If I had realized the differences I would not have made this purchase.

This is a nice toy - better than boring number and alphabet peg boards - a little creative and engaging. However I am a little disappointed that 100 pegs aren't quite enough and my son often runs out of pegs and he wants to place more plates on top of each other to make tall buildings. Unlike a Lego or Mega Blok, the pegs cannot be bought alone either. Also I am a little scared that the foam sheets will loose out on the grip and will frustrate the kid. Its not all that great for 40$!

We already had this and bought it for some one else for Christmas. It is amazing the number of creations you can build. It really gets the kids brains going. They build huge complexes and then use them with little people and act out stuff. A great gift....maybe for ages 3-6. Little ones can use it, but not to it's full possibilities until they are alittle older. It's one of those toys that you'll have around a long time because they continue to use it in different ways. And made in the USA----how awesome!

I recently purchased this set and I am so pleased with it. Here is what I love about it:

- It is great for kids of all ages. I think I enjoy it as much as my three year old and my 15 month old.
- It has a lot of pieces so multiple children can play with it at the same time.
- There are so many activities and variations. You can build towers (or castles as my daughter calls them!), you can sort or do pattern activities, you can practice counting, addition, subtraction, etc.
- It is a great tool for developing fine motor skills.
- The box it comes in is sturdy and serves as a great storage container.
- Lauri (the manufacturer) is great about assisting with replacement pieces.

One of my twins (2y9m) was in speech therapy for a while and her therapist had a small peg board that my daughter loved to play with. We wanted to get something similar for Christmas when we happened upon this one on Amazon. It's way bigger than we had in mind, but it looked pretty neat. The girls really like it and their older brother (7) even likes to play with it with them. The pegs are very sturdy and a good size for little hands. The bottom mat is nice and thick. The other mats are thinner but yes it is because otherwise you couldn't fit the pegs through them as you stacked up. It's a design feature, not a money saving tactic. We'll see how well they hold up over time but so far they seem sturdy enough. This is a great toy to let your kids play with on their own, or a great way to go over shapes, colors, numbers, concepts such as big or small (shapes), short or tall (stacks)... For older kids it's a nice way to set out some grids and visually show multiplication - ie when the grid is full it's 10X10 or 100 - my son likes to help my hunt all the pegs and fill the grid to make sure we have them all. You could also show 2X10, 3X5, etc etc etc to show how multiplication works. (I don't know that I'd buy it FOR an older child but if you have bigs and littles it's nice to find toys that can be used across the span, or ways to make more use of what you have with all the kids!) So much to do with this one little set!

I am now buying this toy for my classroom - my kids have had these pegs for over 4 years and the original set is still holding up great. They build with them, make magic wands, and sort out the colors. My son has developmental delays and he uses these in his occupational therapy to work on fine motor skills. My daughters who are "normal" also love them. Overall, a great toy for a wide range of ages and abilities.

I bought this for my son for Christmas in 2010. He plays with it every now and then, but I don't think he's near as wild about it as he is his Legos. I have come in a time or two and seen where he's played with it, but there just isn't that much to do with it other than to stack the layers with the pegs. I feel like it was too high priced as well. My son has more fun with items like play dough and water colors than he does these peg levels. The pic sells you on it, but there is only so much you can do with stacking layers. The only reason I scored this item as high as I did is because I give it the benefit of the doubt that my son plays with it sometimes when I don't know it. I was truly disappointed with it from the very first time it came out of the box, and I probably would not recommend it unless you have money to throw around. Play dough is much cheaper, and next to Thomas the tank engine, little else compares like play dough, except for riding toys and the V.Smiles.
