This is a charming book with beautiful artwork. My daughter enjoyed it, though she did wish it had information about the Maria's career once she became a professional in New York.

Both a talented pianist and dancer, Maria was encouraged by her father to choose one "star". "In the way that very young people choose, from the heart, I chose (ballet) and I chose right". Any young reader would choose right in selecting this inspiring account of a unique American star.

I purchased this book thinking that my daughter could learn something about the life of a Native American, and about how one trains for, becomes, and lives as a ballerina. Instead the author merely brags about how the music was a part of her, and complains about her first teacher, whom she repeatedly says did not train her well. This was a waste of time and money. I am giving it away, though I don't know who would want it.
