Captivating,
This review is from: Talon (Paperback)
Fans of historical novels will love Talon. This well-researched, sweeping saga of 12th century Persia captivated my imagination, while simultaneously educating me about a region and culture I knew little about. It's also a compelling "page-turner;" difficult to put down once you become engrossed in the lives and adventures of the three main characters.

I am a sometimes reader. On a recent vacation I was given a copy of Talon. I lost numerous hours of sleep until the book was finished. Mr. Broschert takes you on a historic ride through the 1100's. His visions of the architecture and dress of the time still has me watching news accounts on the TV to see the different cultures. The suspense of the story had you wanting more and the ending was far from what I was anticipating, or should I say wanting. I can only wish for a sequel. Very , very good Mr. Broschert!!!

Doug,

This review is from: Talon (Paperback)
Boschert's gripping narrative, vivid descriptions and heartfelt style, make Talon a powerful story of brutality, courage, love and tragedy in twelfth century Persia.
At an early age, Talon, the lead character, is taken as a captive deep into the sinister world of the Assassins; the historical ancestors of Al Qaeda. As Talon grows into manhood he encounters several tests that will challenge his humility, friendship and his sense of what is right and wrong. Talon's struggles are pure excitement. While Talon is fictional it is clear that vast amounts of time, energy and travel were expended in collecting research for the period. Boschert has written a novel that you cannot put down. Talon and Boschert's future works have earned a spot in my library. Now James, when can we expect the sequel?

Some books are good to read, but you dont get involved, others like this one draw you into the story and you live it together with Talon, Rav'an and Reza. You read faster when the going gets tough and slow down to savour the good times. The end comes way to soon and leaves you wanting more. Just waiting for the next one and in the meantime I can always go back and relive the story and go back in time and space.

Talon,

This review is from: Talon (Paperback)
Having worked with Mr. Boschert for several years and knowing his background, he was able to describe the land, its people, and the various castles, trails, mountains, etc, from first hand knowledge. While working with him, he related some of his personal experiences during his earlier years and he lived some of what he wrote. Mr. Boschert is a very likeable and personable individual with a great sense of humor but with a no-nonsense approach to life. I wish Mr. Boschert all the best and I am awaiting the next book to find out how Talon saves his beloved.

Great Tucson Author,

Normally a reader of contemporary fiction, I found myself fascinated with this exotic tale of ancient Persia and Talon, the brave, cunning warrior that overcomes immense adversity after being abducted as a child by a cruel faction that errily resembles Al Qaeda. His captors, the Assassins, imprison then indoctrinate him into their mercenary way of life expecting him to become a savage killer that will help conquer their adversaries. Once trained as an Ismaili warrior the adventure develops into escape, torture, pursuit, and unrequited love. If you like novels that offer heart pounding suspense, romance, and intrigue in an historical context, this book is for you.

Mr. Boschert has crafted a riveting action adventure story set in mysterious and exotic twelfth century Persia. Each page is filled with a marvelous mixture of strange and exotic cultures, magnificent landscapes against a backdrop of political intrigue, betrayal and brutal savagery. The story of two young people of strangely different cultures with a common goal driven not only by love, but loyalty, overcome enormous physical and emotional challenges to complete their mission. Boschert weaves this tale with such mastery that you are driven to the next page. A wonderful read you shouldn't miss.

Talon of Persia,

I always considered if I was able to learn a bit of history while enjoying a good story that I had a double treat. This tale of a young Christian boy growing up in the foreign society of "assassins" shows us the human side of those people who were the ancestors of Al Qaeda while never letting us forget the ruthlessness and tunnel vision their descendents still exhibit today. Descriptions of the country, the people and the locations are detailed enough to create excellent mental images without slowing down or detracting from the quick pace of the adventure. The story is fast moving, funny, sad, harsh and gripping all at the same time and it held my attention till the very last page. My one qustion is "WHEN WILL THE SEQUEL BE OUT?" I'm looking very forward to the further adventures of Talon.

GREAT book to read! I finished Talon on the flight home. I absolutely loved it! A fan of the martial arts, I absolutely loved all the adventures the warrior Talon and his friends went on. I had trouble putting the book down! Every evening when everyone was a sleep, I gratefully picked up the book and read late into the night. Then during the day, every free moment I had, I picked up the book and read another exhilarating chapter of my new found friend's adventures. On the planes and in the airports, I didn't even see the time pass as I was so absorbed in the book. I almost missed my connecting flight at one point! I am really impressed. EXCELLENT!

A Journey to 12th Century,
This review is from: Talon (Paperback)
I read Talon mostly when I was outdoors in the nature. The author described the nature, the lives of the people, the cities... all very beautifully and takes the reader with himself in that environment. I grew up in Iran, and the book very much reminded me of my time there. I think this book can be a very good introduction to Iran's culture.
The other good point of this book is that it describes a very important part of the history which is not well known, in a very touching story. It kind of explains the scope of the crusades and the environment at that time. I also enjoyed the way the author contrasted the mood inside a terrorist group and the regular life of the society. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I recommend it to you especially if you are interested in knowing more about history, Iran or just reading a very good story. |
