Scary but well written!, April 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Talons: Talons (Mass Market Paperback)
Talons-an appropriate name. I love how John Peel described the creature that haunted Kari, its hunger for death, and how she had to resist joining it. I'm thankful that he didn't include any really gory aspects, just giving you an idea that lets you imagine the rest. I also liked how John Peel included some family problems, and letting Kari realize that Dr. Grant wasn't all that she thought she was. I think that this is the second best horror book for young adults that I've ever read! (Shattered, also by John Peel, comes first.)

Talons is a fun, exciting book., September 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Talons: Talons (Mass Market Paperback)
Talons is a fun, exciting book. It has a cool, original plot and fluid, believable dialogue. The characters are well developed and likeable (or unlikeable, as the case may be). Peel does a masterful job of tossing in facts about Norse legends and history without them bogging down the story. Although for me it wasn't a problem, some people may find the magic-based concept a bit tough to swallow. All in all, it was a very good book, and I would recommend it to almost everyone, especially fans of Stephen King.
