Luckily, I purchased my Tama-Go far cheaper than the average price of twenty dollars. In my opinion twenty dollars is too much for the Tama-Go considering all its drawbacks, which are listed below:
1. The system itself is larger than its predecessor, making it more difficult to carry around outside the home or conceal it properly.
2. You have to purchase the batteries separately now. Not to mention the batteries do not last very long; mine died within one-to-two weeks of play. The old batteries used were a hassle to change, though they lasted a lot longer and were included with the Tamagotchi.
3. You can no longer name your Tamagotchi.
4. A lot of the features on the former Tamagotchis were discarded with the Tama-Go. Instead of the four-or-five games your Tamagotchi was able to play after maturing, you get two games that inevitably become boring after awhile. I also miss the mail system, the ability to acquire certain items by means of codes, the capability to travel across the planet with the purchase of a ticket, and the unique school and job structure.
5. Then you have to spend an extra ten dollars just to buy figures that include one shop and two games, after having to spend twenty dollars on a Tamagotchi that pales in comparison to its predecessors. Bandai is obviously believes money grows on trees.
6. Tamatown, the online world your Tama-Go can connect to, is also a letdown. This most recent version has less games and fun activities. And I can rarely access the site.
I am hoping the next version of the Tamagotchi will exceed my expectations and be a lot better than the Tama-Go.
So sums up my review. Hope it was helpful!
My daughter loves it anyway (she gave 5 stars) and thinks it's better than the music star, or familitchi that she had earlier. She misses the shop where you can buy items, though, but fortunately I also bought a Chamametchi figure that includes a toy shop. But the toys in the shop are too expensive in her opinion :-)
She also loves Tama town, and likes to "chat" with other users there.
As the person who paid for the toy, I have to say that is was pretty expensive, also due to the shipping fee. The tama-go is not sold in Europe (as far as I know) and I had to order it from the USA.
For adults, it's often a challenge to see everything on the small screen, but that's true of any electronic gadget.
Longevity of the toy is arguable, not because of issues with durability but because of the interest that the toy inspires. My niece enjoyed playing with it, and her younger brother (3 yrs old) came up to try to see if he could help her play it. She played with it for about 20 minutes, before leaving it for the computer games , the PSP, and the iPad.
Overall, a good attempt to bring back the tamagotchis of the 90s, but maybe the current generation of kids already have their hands full with mobile devices.

The Tama-Go is pretty basic on its own, and I can easily see why people find it boring or disappointing. Read morePublished on May 6, 2013 by Kayla Bush
