2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed
I purchased 3 of these for my daughters. One is hardly played with and is fine. The batteries on the other 2 died within a month. After replacing the batteries, they no longer work because my daughter wore them around her neck and she perspired. Try to figure that one out. I am out $40.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tamagotchi Has Returned and Won't Be Forgotten!, September 21, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tamagotchi Connection DNU Use 140136Asst1 (Toy)
Tamagotchi is a VERY fun toy. I gave a five on the 'How Much fun is this toy' Why? Because it is fun! You start out with an egg which hatches into Babytchi male or female. (After you set the time and date and stuff) Then you get to name it! Mine was named Nino, the Spanish word for boy.

Tamagotchi's are just so cute! You can play games with them, feed them, and they even preform secret actions! (For example, My brother's Tamagotchi, Twink, spits water. I still think that's hilarious!)You can also connect with friends and play games and exchange presents using infrared technology! This toy is educational becuase you have to take care of it!

You have to feed it, play with it and more, just like a pet! Plus, you have to keep it happy! This toy is pretty durable in my opinion.

I have dropped it twice (On a very hard wood floor)and it plays just like normal! I believe that this toy comes at a great price for all the fun it delivers. But it may not be a good idea for this to be the on the top present on a younger child's wishlist. Because they may find it- A: Boring and not 'interactive' enough, or B: Hard to take care of.

I reccomend this toy for ages 9 and up. Younger children may become too upset when their Tamagotchi 'dies/goes back to Planet Tamagotchi' But, all in all, this toy is great fun, and it HIGHLY reccomend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay For Tamas!, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Tamagotchi Connection DNU Use 140136Asst1 (Toy)
Tamas (Tamagotchis) Are one of the best toys ever.
They have three buttons, a button on the far left (A), a button in the middle (b), and a button on the far right (C). There are eight icons on the tamagotchi's screen. To choose which one you want, use the A button. It moves from left to right across the top row of icons, then left to right across the botton row. Your tamagotchi character is between the two rows of icons. The selected icon will be darker then the others. It can be a bit hard to tell. You may have to move it around a bit (if the light hits the screen wrong, it can be hard to read, light a computer screen) but even so, one may not be highlighted. Why? Well, if you...
Wait too long, the tamagotchi will un-select the selected icon and you will have to choose again.
Choose the icon in the very bottom-right corner of the screen, which is simply an alert button (more about this later) then all icons will be un-selected.
Once you have chosen the correct icon, press B. B is always the button for selecting. Now, the first icon that will highlight is the meter icon. It has several pages. To scroll through them, use the B or A buttons. On the page containing happines and hunger, you actually want there to be filled-in hears (Filled in hearts are back, otherwise they are white) becuase this means it is NOT hungry. Hapiness is the same, more hearts is better.
Click the A button again to scroll to the page with training. Acheive training points by playing games and disiplining/praising your tama. The more the better!
The third page has name, age and weight. The fourth has gender and "generation."If your tama becomes partners with anyone and gives birth to an egg, the tama that hatches will become second-generation, just like you might call a mother first generation and a daugter second generation. The fourth (and last) page has how many points you have. You can get points easily by doing games. They let you buy treats and items to make your tama even more happy!
To exit the list, click C.
The second icon in the top row is a chef's head. Click on this with B and it will take you to the food menu. You can click meal (if your tama is really hungry) snack (if it is a little hungry) or treat (If you've bought the food items.) Don't feed it too much or to little, as it would die! My freind once took my cousin's tama and just started feeding it, and wouldn't stop. It died, sadly enough.
The third icon is kind of a little can. This is the toilet-clean-up. If your tama makes a mess (Which is will, as there's no toilet,) click this button to clean in up. Yout tama will leave the screen too, but will pop right back.
the next item is gaming. It's a little bat. Click and select game, shop, or item. Go to games and you can play games that help your tama lose weight and give you points.
Go to shop to buy items for your tama.
Go to item to play with items you have. My tama likes the "ball."
The next icon is kind of a little heart with lines. This is the connectino button. I forget how to connect becuase my friend lost her tama and we haven't connected forever.
On the bottom row, the first icon is dicipline/praise. Use discipline when it notifies you when it hasn't done something (gotten hungry, gotten sick, pooed) or when it doesn't notify when it should (It should notify you when it is: Sick, Hungry, Going to sleep, Waking up, Or has Pooed.) Praise it when it does something right, such as beeping at appropriate times. I praise mine when it recovers from sickness as well.
The next button is the first-aid button. If your tama is sick, click this to give it medicine. It may need more than one dose.
Next is lights. Turn the lights on when is awake and off when it's asleep.
Next is the friendlist. Freinds are all the tamas (up to 50 are stored) that the tama has connected with.
The next button is the attention button. If the tama beeps, there should be an obvious change to the screen:
There will be poo on it, the tama will have a skull for sickness, the tma is asleep, but ALWAYS, no matter what, the attention signal should be highlighted. Of not, check it's hungrines levels anyway, and then discipline accordingly.
Also, pressing A+C makes sound turn off and A+B pauses it.
The sound turn off is good, becuase it beeps at least once a day, and if it's a school day, then it would be discovered to be "disruptive" and taken away. Also, it beeps very faintly at all times, at least when it's asleep. I am further looking into this, but for you out there with good hearing, A+C is a blessing.
Tamas are very durable. I have never had mine break. But water is bad, it can ruin them in a short while. The bateries only last about a month, but still.
A good tama will live a long time, I have heard of a tama that lived six months.
They are also incredibly fun, and I recomend them for ages 9+, seeing as the small parts could be swallowed if you pry the casing apart...um, with a screwdriver...and it might be hard for the younger children to handle the death of poor tama.
My tama, Sam, a boy, is asleep right now. They have regular sleep schedules. They go to sleep at the same time each night and sleep for about 12 hours.
They are the best toy ever invented...I LOVE them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long live the Tamagotchi!, October 6, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tamagotchi Connection DNU Use 140136Asst1 (Toy)
Tamagotchi was a craze that swept the globe in 1996. It came in many different incarnations- Tamagotchi Gen1, Umi No Tamagotch (Tamagotchi Ocean), Mori No Tamagotch (Tamagotchi Garden), Santaclautchi- you name it. The goal was to look after a virtual pet- feeding it and cleaning up its cyber poo. If you neglected it, it died. The craze died out soon enough.

In 2004, BanDai, its creators, came up with an ingenius way to get the craze going again.

This new incarnation is called the Tamagotchi Connexion. They were released in three versions. Tamagotchi Connexions have IR transmitters and receivers allowing you to connect using infrared to other Tamagotchi Connexions. They came in many different colours. The main focus now seemed to be the Connection feature, in which your Tamagotchi could play games against another Tamagotchi. You couldn't control them. They'd get happy or sad, depending if they won or lost. Tamagotchi are quite fun to play with, and quite simple provided you have read the instructions or have gotten sufficient help from a friend (for me, the latter). If you didn't give them love and care or if the Tamagotchi was naughty or in a bad mood, it would beep at you, which drives many people insane but the Tamagotchi can be easily paused and the sound can be easily turned off.

You could get a variety of characters depending on how you treated your Tamagotchi. On version 1 of Tamagotchi Connexion, you could get 21 characters, version 2 around 42 characters and on version 3 52 characters.

Quick explanation of the other versions- version 2 and 3 has a new Gotchi Point system. You earned Gotchi Points from playing games that were unlocked as the Tamagotchi grew older and you could spend them on items at the Gotchi shop. There were shop codes to unlock new items. [...].

Really, I didn't like the version 2 and 3s, but that's just personal opinion. Many children like the newer versions, especially version 3.

Tamagotchi Connexions are quite durable. Some people have reported being in a water fight and their Tamagotchi surviving after simply disassembling it and leaving it to dry for a couple of hours.

BanDai is yet to release a Version 4. We all wonder what this new toy will yield. In Japan, they have Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi, that feature lifelike elements like schooling and working.

If you have a child, and they want a Tamagotchi, and they're an "old-schooler", since the old 1996 ones are hard to find now, try getting your hands on Tamagotchi Connexion version 1. They're quite rare, unfortunately. But, if they like newer versions, tell them to wait for 'Version 4'.

Overall I like the Tamagotchi. It's a nice little virtual pet and it's not too demanding.

Tamagotchi's are great toys for kids & adults. They teach the kids responsibility, and adult's like to collect them. Plus, if you can't take care of them for awhile you can pause them.

This is the best tamagotchi I have ever tried. I tried version 1 and I have version 2, but all I can say is that version 2 is like 50 times better. It has four games that are each very fun and you can earn gotchi points to buy stuff like skate boards and apples and bananas and tons of other stuff. Also if you buy everything in the store then the next day they have brand new items. The toy is good because it goes to sleep at 8 pm and wakes up at about 8 am so when you sleep the tamagotchi sleeps too. You can store up to 50 friends in it and play with each other. Also you can turn the sound off and put it in pause mode. Another good thing is that if you need to change the battery and put in a naw one it does not start a new game. You can select download and it goes back to when it last grew a level or when you connected with another tamagotchi. It is very educational because it teaches you responsibility. I gave it four stars for durability because it is not waterproof. If you drop it a few times it still is all right.

My girls love the fact that you can connect the tamagotchi with another tamagotchi and have the characters play together. They also like the website where they can earn points. It is litle and convinient for travel and doctors offices. They are in a key chian so you can clip them to jeans, bracelet, back packs. The feature that it beeps at you when is hungry is cute and builds a sense of resposibility in the kids. Cute toy!

I remember it well back in '96, when the first Tamagotchis came out in the US. It was a fad; everybody had to have one. It was similar to these new ones, but of course with less features, but now, with these new revolutionized Tamagotchi Connection Version 2 pets, the fun is endless. With new games, the new shopping feature and many others, this new toy will surely turn into a fad just like the when it first came out. It stimulates the actions of an actual pet, beeping when it needs attention, food, and even when it needs you to turn off the lights. Games add to the fun. Connecting with others who have a Tamagotchi helps in developing new generations of your own Tamagotchis. With tons of characters, you will surely end up with something new every time.
