Book Description

Catherine Evans fell in love when she was three years old, head-over-heels, forever kind of love. The very first moment she saw twelve-year-old Duncan McKenzie, she told God and her pony that she was going to marry that boy. He was handsome. He was kind. He was strong and smart and all the good things a boy should be. For thirteen years she loved him with every beat of her heart. And on her sixteenth birthday he walked away from her father's ranch, and from her. He didn't look back over his shoulder. Not even once. And from that day forward, Catherine Evans swore off all men. Her heart turned to stone, her will to iron, and her vow to God changed. She'd run her father's ranch. She'd succeed. She'd survive. And she would never, ever love another man as long as she lived.

Duncan McKenzie left the ranch ten years ago, desperate to escape temptation in the form of a budding young lady too innocent to claim for his own. But Catherine's frightened father summons him home. The ranch is under attack and the old man's stubborn daughter refuses to seek help. Duncan left a sweet young girl behind a decade ago. He returns to a defiant siren, a woman whose heart is as wild as the land she would sacrifice her life to protect. When Catherine's father coerces her into marrying Duncan, the fire in her eyes spells trouble, but it's the kind of trouble Duncan has no desire to resist. Marriage is the only way he can protect her. Especially when Duncan's own past comes calling in the form of one extremely dangerous and vengeful outlaw, Catherine's cowardly enemies want the ranch badly enough to kill for it, and his reluctant bride is very much in their way.

This book has been completely re-edited and updated as of February 22, 2014. This western historical romance is a work of historical fiction.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Now, the beauty of the novel rests in the presentation of the plotline, through the various bends, troughs and crests it takes. They get married, they work together, they stick by each other, but the novel explores how they come to love each other and Tame the wild hearts. Explicit Scenes seemed as if perfectly embedded in the matrix of the plot. The epilogue is still sweet, saccharine sweet.

Lines to look out for: Girls are not ornery, we're smart. You boys are just too dumb to realize that.
Judgement: If you are looking for a romance set in Historical background with a difference,go grab a copy!

About the Author

Cynthia Woolf is the author of eight historical western romance books and one historical western short story with more books on the way. She was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the mountains west of Golden. She spent her early years running wild around the mountain side with her friends. Their closest neighbor was one quarter of a mile away, so her little brother was her playmate and her best friend. That fierce friendship lasted until his death in 2006.

Cynthia was and is an avid reader. Her mother was a librarian and brought new books home each week. This is where young Cynthia first got the storytelling bug. She wrote her first story at the age of ten. A romance about a little boy she liked at the time. Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner. Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and the great friends she's made at CRW for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

4.0 out of 5 stars ;0) October 22, 2011

BRIEF SUMMARY
Catherine loves running her father's ranch in Creede, Colorado. However, they've been having problems recently that has resulted in stampedes, cattle dying, kidnapping, and revenge. This has ex- bounty hunter Duncan, returning to Creede, to the family that has raised him. Catherine has loved Duncan since she was a little girl, and even though she has loved him and he has returned, she figures she can manage the ranch just fine without him.

THOUGHTS
All the ingredients that includes a spitfire daughter, a loving father, a sexy ex- bounty hunter, great characters, and rowdy neighbors, produces a good old fashion historical western that was enjoyable to read. The moment James, Catherine's father blackmailed his daughter and Duncan to marry each other to protect his land, sets the pace of the story. Both characters were lovable and kept my interest throughout the story. Catherine was a spitfire and could hold her own and Duncan was just your typical sexy country and western guy.

With the explosion of characters, good and bad that the author gave us, was the added bonus needed for this book. Apart from the main characters of the story, I really enjoyed reading Tom and Beth's characters. I found them to be one of the sweetest couples and I'm glad they found the help they needed from James, Catherine and Duncan. I also enjoyed Cassie's character; she was Catherine's good friend and neighbor. I also thought the epilogue was sweet and did all the characters that I love justice. If you enjoy westerns with the addition of an historical feel, then this would be the book to read.

Storyline: GOOD
Intimacy: GOOD
Enjoyment: GOOD

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good book March 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this book after it was re-edited. Since most of the negative reviews related to editing so I paid the asking price. I'm a pretty fast reader but this book was a trial for me. The style of writing is not good and I skimmed a lot because I was cringing so much. Basically the H spent many years with the h and her father on their ranch when he was much younger. He left 10 years previously to see the world and left a heartbroken 16 year old h behind. He returns at the request of the h's father because they are experiencing problems with their neighbour and the h's dad decides that the H must marry the h. Both agree to this and the story goes on.

+++Spoilers+++
I expected a marriage of convenience book, which I'm such a sucker for. This wasn't what this book was about really. It seemed to be filled with every cliche ever written and it drove me nuts. The h was supposed to be feisty but she just came off as stupid for the ridiculous things she did e.g. riding everywhere on her own in spite of the known dangers from the neighbours. She was forever challenging the H and then he'd kiss her senseless. She's in love with him but he doesn't believe in love as he'd been betrayed before. The part that really got on every last one of my nerves was the part where the H and h go to see her 'blood' brother, an American Indian. Reading it was agonising and then when the chief insists they marry in the traditional way, they go ahead and from when they return until their wedding they openly sleep together in her father's house. Really? The H's former fiancée arrives in town and works with the villains. This kind of stuff continued throughout the book.

Finally the timing of events was not sorted out in the re-editing process so there are still ridiculous inconsistencies with pregnancies, marriage dates etc

I cannot recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love reunited July 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Cat loved Duncan even as a child when the 13-year-old orphan had been taken in by her family.
But now, when he's back after 10 years as a bounty hunter, will he leave again and break her heart again? Cat loves her father's Colorado ranch and runs it like a field boss, but will Duncan take over, both the ranch and Cat's heart? A heart-warming tale of a woman learning to trust and love again and a man who hides what he truly desires. A good read, with some nice twists to keep you rooting for Cat and Duncan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read! April 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Western romance, and this is the first book of Cynthia Woolf's that I have read. It won't be the last! The storyline and character development are excellent. This book has intrigue, suspense, romance, and humor. For what more could you ask? I also enjoyed the Native American characters included. This is one of those books you don't want to see end. I was happy to learn that there is a sequel, Tame a Wild Wind, coming out soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tame A Wild Heart December 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Can anyone really do that do you suppose? I would think only if love was involved and it is not so much as tame but be of like mind and understand and take them and love them as they are. So in order to have that answered the title alone is intriguing and so into the story I went. I enjoy this author's books so either way I knew I was in a win win situation. Right away caught up in a stampede and who is in charge but a woman who is not afraid in the 1880's running a ranch but faced with some trouble. Catherine in the midst of all hears someone barking his own orders Duncan and she knows him well. Being late isn't getting on her good side either. Trouble has come to their lives and her father has asked for Duncan's help and little does anyone realize at first it is where he wants to be home. Having loved each other long ago but have grown over time and changed and Catherine has become such a strong willed spirit no one can match up in her eyes. But someone wants to take away their ranch and since no men for her and least of all Duncan. John wants to marry her since he can't buy it and Roy is helping for his own reasons and that is to get back at Duncan. Now though she has a very loving and cunning father-James and he has his own plan and that is to get them together to save the ranch. Marriage not in either of their minds oh ugh they might say but that is exactly what is in store. Gotta love it when will children ever learn got to wake up pretty early in morning to try and get one over a parent who knows and loves them well. The story carries you along through all the mishaps and attempts thrown at them. Humor at times that is comedy the interaction sometimes between the two as they match off. Read more ›
