Book Description

April 24, 2011
Max Dutton, a starting NFL linebacker for the Los Angeles Condors, is certain he’s going to die young since his father and grandfather both passed away at an early age. Believing his life will be cut short, Max lives every moment to its fullest. For this reason, Max also shies away from forming close relationships. What would be the point of falling in love and starting a family only to leave them as his father left him and his sisters?

Nutrition expert, Kari Murphy, used to think Max Dutton was to die for. She's older and wiser now, but then she’s hired by the NFL franchise to follow Max around for a couple of weeks and give him healthy-eating advice, foolproof facts about carbohydrates and tasteful tips on cooking and shopping smart.

Kari Murphy must work side by side with the guy she spent one spectacular night with during high school…the guy she pined after for way too long.

Too bad he doesn't remember her.

Taming Mad Max finaled in RWA’s 2008 Golden Heart competition under the title, Better Late Than Never.

From the Author

Theresa Ragan grew up in Lafayette, California, as number four of five sisters. She is happily married and has four children. After reading her first romance, she knew exactly what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. When the kids were small, she wrote early in the morning, late at night, and in the car while waiting for the kids to get out of school. Nineteen years later, in 2011, Theresa self-published her very first novel, Return of the Rose. Since that time she has released a total of seven novels and recently signed her first publishing contract with Thomas and Mercer. "The best part of being published," Theresa insists, "is hearing from readers."

Taming a racing heart! June 30, 2011

Taming Mad Max was more than what I thought it would be...it was so romantic and so funny at times. The main story is about Max and Kari, but then there are 2 other love stories going on at the same time. The book is well balanced between the stories and you will cry at a few spots in the book. This book is worth the read! Give it a try! You will be soooo happy you did! This is one of my all time favorite books now, and I look forward to reading more by Theresa Ragan. I read the book in one day because I could not put it down!

Tame September 1, 2011

It's the age old story: girl loves boy from afar, circumstances conspire to bring them together for one night of passion, she conceives and disappears, he pines for her secretly for years, circumstances conspire to bring them together again, he pursues her anew, she rejects him, and he discovers the child he never knew just as they were about to settle their differences.

If you're one of those folks who reads a story and finds yourself yelling at the characters to JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER, then this will be fantastically rage-inducing for you. Frankly, even if you do find it rage-inducing, the story is cute and you might enjoy it regardless. The sullen teenager is written well, the secondary hero is adorable.

I'm not really sure why Max was "mad" or required "taming". With the exception of his odd fatalism, he seemed mostly reasonable. He's funny, considerate, intelligent, and charming. On the other hand, Kari was a far less charming heroine. It's difficult to imagine that she honestly feels justified in her choices and that she's completely unwilling to give him the benefit of a doubt.

I really enjoyed the family interaction. Max is the big brother to four sisters. Two of them are having problems and I'm curious to know what happens to his #3 sister. I'm not sure if she ended up with a happy ending...maybe Ragan has another book planned for Nicole. Everyone in Max's family talks at once and they all have an opinion which made for some good laughs. His mother was an interesting character...she doesn't let just anyone into the family circle. I definitely recommend this book.

Good story, but not great
Overall, it was a good story, but I had some issues with some of the pace and some of the unnecessary lack of communication. Read more

Too Funny!
I love it when an author can get multiple plots going all at once! All the sub-plots followed along nicely and didn't seem forced or flimsy. Funny, sweet romantic read.

More About the Author

Theresa didn't know she wanted to be a writer until she read Jude Deveraux's A Knight in Shining Armor in 1992. I compare dating and finding the right man with shopping for the perfect wedding dress, Jill said. You have to try dozens of them on before you find the right one and even then the dress still needs to be altered and hemmed until finally just when you begin to question your choice altogether, you realize it fits just fine. "e;
