Book Description

In TAMING MAD MAX, a 2008 Golden Heart finalist under the title BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, Max and Kari learn that sometimes life offers a second chance to get it right.

Max Dutton, a starting NFL linebacker for the Los Angeles Condors, lives life to its fullest because he knows that everything can change in the blink of an eye. His father and grandfather both passed away at an early age. For this reason, Max also shies away from forming close relationships. What would be the point of falling in love and starting a family only to leave them as his father left him and his sisters?

Nutrition expert, Kari Murphy, went through high school with a mad crush on Max Dutton. He was the hot football player back then and she realizes nothing has changed when she's hired by the NFL franchise to give Max healthy-eating advice, foolproof facts about carbohydrates and tasteful tips on cooking and shopping smart.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Theresa Ragan grew up in Lafayette, California, as number four of five sisters. She is happily married and has four children. After reading her first romance, she knew exactly what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. When the kids were small, she wrote early in the morning, late at night, and in the car while waiting for the kids to get out of school. Nineteen years later, in 2011, Theresa self-published her very first novel, Return of the Rose. Since that time she has released a total of seven novels and recently signed her first publishing contract with Thomas and Mercer. "The best part of being published," Theresa insists, "is hearing from readers."

5.0 out of 5 stars Taming a racing heart! June 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Taming Mad Max was more than what I thought it would be...it was so romantic and so funny at times. The main story is about Max and Kari, but then there are 2 other love stories going on at the same time. The book is well balanced between the stories and you will cry at a few spots in the book. This book is worth the read! Give it a try! You will be soooo happy you did! This is one of my all time favorite books now, and I look forward to reading more by Theresa Ragan. I read the book in one day because I could not put it down!

3.0 out of 5 stars Tame September 1, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's the age old story: girl loves boy from afar, circumstances conspire to bring them together for one night of passion, she conceives and disappears, he pines for her secretly for years, circumstances conspire to bring them together again, he pursues her anew, she rejects him, and he discovers the child he never knew just as they were about to settle their differences.

If you're one of those folks who reads a story and finds yourself yelling at the characters to JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER, then this will be fantastically rage-inducing for you. Frankly, even if you do find it rage-inducing, the story is cute and you might enjoy it regardless. The sullen teenager is written well, the secondary hero is adorable.

I'm not really sure why Max was "mad" or required "taming". With the exception of his odd fatalism, he seemed mostly reasonable. He's funny, considerate, intelligent, and charming. On the other hand, Kari was a far less charming heroine. It's difficult to imagine that she honestly feels justified in her choices and that she's completely unwilling to give him the benefit of a doubt.

This story could be fun, but it's not. It's like reading a romance novel and looking at the pamphlets on the wall at your doctor's office while waiting for your appointment. I honestly gave up after the fourth chapter. I couldn't read another health lesson about nutrition, it completely detracted from the flow and romance of the story; or buy into the idea that Kari, a woman in her thirties with a master's degree, who was infatuated with the hero and grew up in his town, had no idea that he had sisters, that his dad died right after their sexual encounter, that a 200+ lb. physically fit pro line backer cannot eat cottage cheese or bagels but can have wine and italian food, or that you don't tell a man he is going to be a father by passing his mother, and his employer a note with said information. It was all too ridiculous. I recommend you save your time and look for something more thoughtful to read.
