Book Description

January 15, 2007
Samara Layton needs a pot of gold. Her community outreach organization in Washington, D.C. is in dire financial straits. As executive director, it's up to Samara to rescue the non-profit organization from bankruptcy, and time is running out. As a last-ditch resort, she seeks help from her estranged mother, world-renowned fashion designer Asha Dubois. In exchange for her mother's financial assistance, Samara agrees to model in Asha's spring fashion show in New York City. She gets more than she bargained for when she steps onto the runway and into the smoldering gaze of the sexiest man she's ever seen. Life has taught Samara to be skeptical of all men, so she's convinced Marcus Wolf is up to no good when he asks her out after the fashion show. When she rudely turns down his dinner invitation, she has no idea that she will soon need his help to rescue her business. And little does she know that Marcus is the man who will take her body to heights of ecstasy, and ultimately claim her heart and soul... Prominent civil rights attorney Marcus Wolf is in New York City on an important business trip. Attending a fashion show is not on his itinerary, until a friend talks him into it. From the moment Samara Layton steps onto the runway in a breathtakingly sheer gown, Marcus is captivated. When their eyes meet, the electricity between them is enough to light up all of Manhattan. But while Marcus would like nothing more than to seduce the exotic beauty, he has no interest in pursuing a serious relationship with her. All his life, women have brought him nothing but heartache-starting with his very own mother, who betrayed him in the worst imaginable way. This confirmed bachelor definitely isn't looking for love. But when Samara comes to him for help, she makes him an offer he can't possibly refuse....

5.0 out of 5 stars The Leader of The Pack, January 27, 2007
By
ASmoothJazzReader (Little Rock, AR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taming the Wolf (Noire Passion) (Paperback)
Marcus Wolf is definetly the leader of the pack. Marcus, a successful Atlanta/DC attorney spotted Samara Layton at a fashion show and asked her out; however, she has issues with trust and puts Mr. Wolf in his place, not knowing that she will have to face him again. Both Marcus and Samara have mother problems they both must work through while not being able to stay away from each other.

There were some serious moments as well as humorous moments intertwined with the heat among Marcus and Samara especially the strip poker game. This book was a very good read and hats off to Maureen Smith and Parker Publising for taming the wolf.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chemistry Doused by a Story, January 29, 2007
By
K. Kimbrough "kkimbr7" (Bakersfield, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Taming the Wolf (Noire Passion) (Paperback)
In Maureen Smith's Taming the Wolf, Marcus Wolfe was not looking for anything but a way out of the fashion show his friend had coerced him into attending. However, when Samara Layton strutted the runway, Marcus was immediately enamored. Little did he know that Samara was just as captivated as he, but their first meeting left a bitter taste in both of their mouths.

On their second meeting, things changed. The chemistry between these two heated up so fast that he was having his way with her within an hour of their initial conversation. (I called my girlfriend in the middle of reading this book and read that scene to her over the phone. Hot! Hot! Hot!) The chemistry between these characters carried the right amount of tension, attraction and raw animalistic lust. For the first half of this story, Ms. Smith establishes a great passion that ironically was almost killed for me in the actual carrying out of the plot. It was almost as if Ms. Smith got caught up in her own characters connection and suddenly was reminded that stories have a conflict, climax, and resolution. I felt as if the plot came as an after-thought to the build up of these two lovers.

The all too soon marriage proposal set a chain of events that unfolded based on the issues these characters had with their mothers. With the passion dropped, the reader is rushed into a predicable conflict that relied on established character history. While I felt their issues with their mothers were believable, I did not buy into the effect that it had on their decision-making and ultimately their miscommunication.

With that said, I believe that Marcus and Samara's lovers relationship was enough for me to forgive the lapse into the usual romance shortcomings. Ms. Smith has a gift for making you wish it were you without being crude or pornographic. I believe romance readers will enjoy as well as those who can appreciate a bit of spice.
