Book Description

Silhouette Desire July 14, 2009

For Texas Cattleman's Club member Lance Brody, marriage is about gaining the right connections. But one plain-Jane personal assistant is about to change his mind...

For years Kate Thornton had dreamed of becoming Mrs. Lance Brody. Then her boss became engaged strictly for business and Kate had had enough. Giving her two weeks' notice should have released her, but Lance's eyes had finally been opened. Kate couldn't be allowed to walk away from the business, or him. And if it meant taking her to bed to keep her...well, that was one job he would gladly do himself!

More About the Author

Katherine Garbera is the national best-selling author of more than 50 books. Writing is the chief focus of her time after her family and the only thing she likes more than working on her own books is reading other authors. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and loves the opportunity to talk about writing with anyone who'll listen.

Garbera started making up stories for her own benefit when she was on a competitive swim team in high school. Though she went to State and usually medaled at swim meets, Katherine says her heart wasn't in swimming but rather in the stories she created as she swam laps at practice.

She worked for The Walt Disney World Company for 15 years and did everything from being a hostess on It's a Small World, to saving swimmers at the Grand Floridian Resort, to touring around VIPs such as Jack Valenti at the Disney-MGM Studios and being a production page on the New Mickey Mouse Club--yes, it might be possible that Britney, Justine and Christina owe her a nod of thanks for keeping all those kids who had to go to the bathroom from interrupting their performances.

Her books have been featured in magazines such as REDBOOK (11/98)and have even been featured on the large JumboTron in Times Square, and excerpted in COSMO (7/10)

This review is from: Taming the Texas Tycoon (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Taming the Texas Tycoon" by Katherine Garbera is the 1st book in "The Maverick County Millionare" series of The Texas Cattleman Club. This is Lance Brody and Kate Thornton's story. Kate is Lance's secretary. Kate -- viewed as a plain Jane -- has always dreamed of becoming Lance's wife. Therefore, it comes as a shock when Lance announces that he is engaged to be married. Engaged to a senator's daughter -- one he has not met or been involved with. Even though this is a marriage of convenience, Kate has had the last straw so to speak. She is devastated by the news and decides to turn in her resignation. Lance is not too pleased by this news. Being a man, he has no idea how Kate feels. Even when Kate's friend encourages her to lose the baggy clothes and big rimmed eyeglassed and to change her wardrobe all together, Lance is stunned when he sees the new Kate. The Kate that other men in the office have also started to notice -- the Kate that Lance has noticed before, but never gave it a thought. Lance is jealous, but feels obligated to do the right thing for the company -- that is, wed the senator's daughter so the senator can help pass a bill that will benefit not only Lance's company, but others as well.

"Taming the Texas Tycoon" is an eyeopener. It is a great love story.

4.0 out of 5 stars True to Its Name..., March 31, 2011

Unfortunately I read about Mitch and Alexis before I read 'Taming the Texas Tycoon'. As I read this saga about Lance and Kate I was able to connect the interwoven story of Mitch and Alexis. Both stories, though written by different authors, were so well coordinated and written.

Lance, the oil tycoon and co-owner of Brody Oil and Gas, realizes that his one true love is his personal secretary, Kate after she submits her resignation and gets a make over. He, in the mean while, is to be engaged to Senator Cavanaugh's daughter, Alexis, who really has her heart and eyes on, the other Brody brother, Mitch.

Through some passionately romantic and sexually charged scenes, these two finally tell each other that they love one another and quickly become engaged at the TCC, eloped to Vegas via his jet and get married. This occurs over a 3 to 5 hrs time period. Wow! Money does make things go faster and smoother.

Great plot but Kate's character was too vacillating and Lance's epiphany was too sudden. I definitely preferred the Mitch and Alexis saga.
