Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This fast-paced, compelling and chilling account, is the deeply moving story of a three-times Kung Fu World Champion. With fascinating insight into the traditions of China's martial arts, it documents the abusive upbringing that turned a four-year old child into a hardened, professional killer.

From China to Europe and across the Mediterranean, we follow Tony as he becomes an elite bodyguard, protecting some of the world's most powerful people. Following personal tragedy, Tony's extreme discipline and the philosophy of his art is quickly turned. He begins to use his skills for illegal means and highly destructive, bloodthirsty pleasure.

Eventually incarcerated in Cyprus, Tony hits rock bottom. Through the visits of a stranger, his is introduced to the reality and life-changing power of Jesus Christ. Though the prison walls fold him, he finds himself a free man. This is just the beginning of a complex and fascinating testimony.

5.0 out of 5 stars <>< KUNG FOO AND A CROSS <>< , March 8, 2005
COMPLETLY FLAWED ME.

I think that this book is "the cross and the switchblade" of this era, I say this because of the Honesty and Detail delivered to the reader about Tony's faith, situation and the agony as he was taken through the gutter of brokeness to what it really means to be "born again" and saved by grace.

READ THIS BOOK. I reccomend it to anyone who has questions about grace or anyone who loves Martial Arts.

Grateful Soldier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow, just wow., September 26, 2008
I tried to read this book with an open mind, but I'd only gotten a few pages in before my BS detector redlined.

The fact that this has received any positive reviews, let alone christian book awards, simply blows my mind. No one involved in the production of this book appears to have applied any critical thinking to reviewing this book. Did the editor fact check any of the authors claims? Including things that should be easy to verify (such as winning a World Kung Fu championship three times).

It just reads like total BS. Petting wild tigers in the jungle, Kumitai death matches, winning world titles for non-existant Kungfu organisations who also sponsor basketball players? Much of what the author claims as personal experience seems to be thinly veiled borrowings from martial arts and action movies.

You would need a massive suspension of disbelief to enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a suspense novel, August 31, 2005
By T. Underwood (Waterloo, Ontario) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A riveting story from 3x Kung-Fu World Champion about his contests, his body-guard career that swirls out of control, ending up in prison: twice. A great story of redemption. Authentically told, warts and all, that points to God and the need for him. Very compelling autobiography.
