Product Description

The T-62 tank has many similarities to the T54/55, both in external shape and mechanism. It made its first official appearance in the victory parade to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the victory over Germany on May 9th 1965.

Here is an older Tamiya model kit of the Soviet T-62 tank. This kit was released in the 1970s-1980s and still has the holes in the bottom of the hull that switches would have protruded out of. Also, the hull still has the mounting brackets for batteries and the little motor that Tamiya used to provide with their very early model kits. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Tamiya did provide motors to their kits and they were actually meant to move around under their own powere. You DO NOT get the motors in Tamiya kits any more but they have not "modified" their older kits to remove these openings like Dragon and a few other manufacturers have done. Anyway, kit is very good for its age. Kit builds very quickly and securely - upper and lower hulls have a tight fit with no gaps. Actual construction for me was less than 2 hours for total parts number is roughly 75-100. One thing about Soviet style model vehicle kits, there are not that many parts for them - they are quite "basic" just like their actual real-life counterparts. You get 2 instruction sheets: 1 in English and 1 in Japanese. Turret fit to upper hull was quite TIGHT and once I got the turret into the position I wanted, it does not move (other kits may be different). This would be a great kit for younger people to build for it is a rugged kit, can be built quite quickly and you also get 1 bonus tank crew member figure with kit. Decal sheet has markings for various Eastern European armies. I actually bought my kit at a hobby shot for about $19.00. Suggest buying yours from Amazon for you will save quite a bit of money on such an older kit, surprised as to the price (have seen this priced over #35.00). Remember that this is a PLASTIC MODEL KIT - ASSEMBLY is required. Paint/glue sold separately.

Like others have said; this tank is probably more complicated than the real thing when it comes to putting it together. Having said that this is a good model I noticed for a beginner in the Russian tank field. They are a little different than most NATO (must easier to assemble IE round turret) but also a fun model and very accurate representation of this little known tank.

Tamiya makes a good model. Actually, the engineering that went into the model was
more complex that the engineering going into the actual tank. If the Russians want to
see what could be improved on their tank weapons, they have to just look at the model kits.
Strange

NOTE: This is an unassembled plastic kit. The parts must be cut off a plastic runner, glued together, and painted. The markings are water-slide decals. Model-building requires a certain amount of skill. It is NOT a toy.
That said, Tamiya released this kit in the late 1970's. It is easy to assemble, though it it is not especially accurate (the turret should be round when viewed from above, not oval). The hull is oversize, to accommodate the electric motor and gearbox that Tamiya used to include. The most accurate 1/35th scale T-62 kits are from Trumpeter, but they are much more complex, and the track links are hundreds of individual pieces of styrene plastic, not a vinyl strip like the Tamiya kit. Tamiya's model is easy enough for a beginner, and assembles quickly. Russian tanks of the period were painted a single overall color, so painting is simple.
