Excellent!, February 10, 2004
This review is from: Tamplin (Audio CD)
Ken Tamplin is an amazing guitarist and vocalist. His vocals are soulful and at times bring to mind shades of David Coverdale. Guitars are front and center in his music. His lyrics are up front and positive. His style is his own. However, if you like Hagar-era Van Halen, Whitesnake and other 80's metal you'll find comfort in this disk.
First gaining poplularity in the 80's Christian Metal Band Shout, Tamplin has gone on to release dozens of albums. On this disk you will find gritty rock and roll from the very first track. "Dancing on a Volcano", "Testify", "Don't Let the Sky Fall on Me" and "In the Lap of Legends" are each spectacular in their own right. Check this disk out. You will love it.

It's not quite Shout, but it sure does rock!, March 7, 2008
This review is from: Tamplin (Audio CD)
This 1993 self-titled album is the second solo release by singer/guitarist Ken Tamplin, formerly of Christian metal band Shout. Tamplin's solo material is a bit less metal-oriented than his work with Shout, but there's no denying the fact that this is a seriously rockin' album.
Where Shout was largely a guitar rock band, this album focuses on Tamplin's considerable vocal talents. There are some great guitar hooks and solos on this album, but the vocal harmonies and choruses really steal the show, proving Ken Tamplin can belt out rock anthems with the best of `em. Overall, this is an upbeat, fast-paced party rock album. Tamplin's Christian message is there if you're looking for it, but not so obvious that it would turn off non-Christian listeners. Chances are you'll be halfway through it, nodding along and snapping your fingers, before you realize the guy's not singing about the same tired hair metal subjects.
This album is a definite winner if you're a fan of Shout, Guardian, Stryper, Petra and other Christian rock artists, but its appeal is not just for the faithful. Fans bands like Bon Jovi, Mr. Big, Warrant, Steelheart and Damn Yankees should find this album enjoyable as well.
NOTE: The CD includes an eleventh track that is not listed above, called Suspicious Eyes. It rocks every bit as much as the other 10 songs on the album.

New fan, May 28, 2008

Ken Tamplin is one of those guys who can sing anything. I hadn't heard of him before but when I had my first listen I had to hear more. Ken has soulful vocals but he can also sing great rock songs. Tamplin is always in good company with musicians and every release is simply excellent.
