Product Description

Color: Black

The Velocity 6x - Compact Sling Pack is a compact sling pack designed for a compact digital or film SLR with a zoom lens attached up to 5" long, another small lens or flash and accessories. The sling pack design is versatile to carry like a backpack, but can be easily accessed by sliding the pack around to the front.

The secure zippered Quick Flip Top opens away from the body for fast and convenient access to camera gear. A well-padded sling strap comfortably distributes the weight, but need not be removed to quickly access photo equipment. The front pocket has organizer pockets inside to keep a mobile phone, PDA or photo accessories within easy reach.

It also features Tamrac's U.S. - patented Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify available memory cards from ones that are used up. A pocket inside the lid stores filters and lens caps. Add optional Tamrac accessories using the attachment slots for our Modular Accessory System (M.A.S.) products to customize this sling pack.

Accommodates: Compact digital or film SLR with zoom lens attached (up to 5.0" long), small lens or flash, and accessories.

The Tamrac is a perfect fit for my Digital SLR camera.

It fits the camera with a 18-55m lens as well as when the 55-200m lens is attached.

There's not really room for storing lenses, but you could store extra batteries and a charger.

The bag is easy to open and the top flap pivots away from you when opening.

It has some waterproof coating on it

It would be nice to fit an extra lens in there, but really when I'm out an about, I choose the lens I'm going to use for the excursion.

The bag is very well padded compared to the other options I saw.

I purchased this bag thinking it would be perfect for my new DSLR. Unfortunately, my entry-level Canon XTi fits too snug in this bag...and for those of you familiar with this camera, you know that this is the smallest DSLR out there along with the D40/D40X . The top zipper was holding on for dear life when I tried to squeeze the camera strap in there with the camera.

I quickly returned this bag and upgraded to the Velocity 7x 5767 instead. The 7x will also give me a chance to expand my lens collection being able to hold a 50 prime and basic telephoto lens.

I just bought a Nikon D40 with a telephoto lens. The bag fit perfect and while it's a tight fit for the camera plus an extra filter and lens hood, it does all fit. It's probably good to be a tight fit so that the camera doesn't move around much. The front pocket is nice for small things too, but no space in the bag for the battery charger and cable. Good quality bag that should last.

I purchased this bag for my Canon EOS 40D. Im sure a lot of people would not have made that decision. The body of the 40D is fairly wide. Upon, first fitting the 40D, the sides were a bit tight, which is what I wanted for the most part. After fitting the 40D with a 28-105mm 3.5-4.5, I still had space for an additional lens (about the same size) and the battery charger. In the front zipper pocket, I was able to fit memory card, and some filters. The strap makes it extremely convenient for easy access. If you want to bring the essentials, I say go for this bag. You might want to look at the other models for telephoto lenses or additional lenses.

I have a Canon EOS XSi with a Tamron 28-200 zoom lens plus two additional Canon lenses. Before getting this bag I considered the Lowe Pro Sling Pack (too big for my need) and the LowePro Inverse 100 AW (too big), and the LowePro OffTrail 1 (didn't need the extra lens storage). This bag is the perfect size for the XSi with the 28-200 or smaller lens attached. A longer lens (ie. 70-200, 100-200, etc) will not fit well. With the camera and lens in the bag, there is enough additional room for a smaller lens or an external flash but not quite enough for one of the longer lenses. Additional storage space is more than adequate for cables, a battery charger, filters, memory, card reader, etc. The "sling" design is very convenient and is very comfortable. Overall, a well designed and sized travel bag.

This is an excellent bag for a digital SLR like the Canon Xsi. While one reviewer said it was too small for the Canon Xti, it's perfect for the newer, smaller Canon Xsi. I can store the charger and an extra battery in the right side compartment and store my 18 - 55 mm lens in the left one. I mount my 55 - 255 mm telephoto lens on the camera which then fits snugly in the bag. I can also mount the normal lens on the camera and store the zoom telephoto in the left compartment. I also like the Modular Accessory System straps on the two sides which allow attachment of Tamrac accessory cases, if desired. I use one of mine to attach my compact digital camera in it's case so I don't have to always change between my normal and telephoto lens when I'm in a hurry. This bag is compact but well padded. The inserts inside the bag separate and protect the lens mounted on the camera from the extra lens and battery charger in the side compartments. This bag can be carried so it rides on your back or can be carried so it hangs under your arm for security in crowded areas. This position is also good if you are hiking and are using a backpack. In addition, the bag is small enough that it fit in my computer backpack so I could carry my laptop, my camera and bag, other valuables as well as my computer and camera accessories in one carryon when flying. This bag is exactly what I was looking for when searching for a compact, functional bag for my Canon Xsi.Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Black)Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Blue)Tamrac 5766 Velocity 6x Compact Sling Pack (Blue) + Accessory Kit

While it takes a bit to get used to it since I have never owned a sling type bag. I found it was very comfortable once you did. I received the bag and immediately went on a 14 day trip and carried the bag almost everyday. It was very easy to retrieve the camera from the bag, snap pictures, then put away and move on.

About the marketing pictures, the first shows this pack being worn like a backpack. While you could wear the pack like this it's unlikely that you will because to do so requires the strap to be cinched up under your armpit pretty much and not nearly enough sling room to bring the pack around to a comfortable position to remove the camera in front. In the second marketing picture the girl has the pack slung around front to remove the camera. It's not obvious but the strap is let out quite a bit in this photograph compared to the one with the pack on the back. Again, while you could adjust the strap when you sling it forward this is going to slow things down quite a bit. That being said I still like the pack but the way I think you will wear it will be more like a shoulder bag except when you need to sling it high on your back, say for a short jog, in which case you'll hold the strap with one hand in order to keep the pack up high while you're moving and still be able to quickly sling it around to retrieve your camera for a quick shot.

I purchased this bag when I purchased a Nikon D-80 Digital SLR, a fairly compact camera, with a 18-135 Zoom Nikkor. With the lens hood removed the camera with lens attached fits well into the bag with enough room to lay in the (free) lowepro transporter shoulder strap on top. (The fit is very tight but possible with the hood on.) I plan to replace the shoulder strap with a Made Products hand grip soon. The lens hood is stored in one of the side spaces below the camera. A flash unit might fit along the other side (I don't have one currently to test). The flash memory carry pouch from the (free) Lowepro Transporter strap fit nicely on the carry handle of the bag.
