May not be a Nikon but still a great lens,

This review is from: Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR LD Aspherical Macro Ultra Zoom Lens for Minolta AF and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
What a great lens. It is not perfect but I really like it. Currently I have only compared it side by side with my Nikon 135 3.5 prime and it holds up pretty good, I have done two side by side tests first one showed the nikon sharper and with better color saturation, but the second test I could not tell the difference. (I need to do some more tests) When I am shooting surfers ok kite surfing @~300, sometimes I go into manual focus because the AF is too slow or gets confused, also in low light I use MF too. I am using this on a D100 and the combination is great for a very flexible lightweight combination. For me this lens is sharp enough and helps me create some beautiful pictures having this big range offers in combination with digital, I take so many photo's so quickly that I come out with a good photo every couple of days (still only 1 in 500 shots :)I just thought about shopping for a new Nikon lens and I just could not find anything that got me excited enough. I think if they come out with a 80-400 AF-S 2.8 for <1500$ I would buy one. But I would still keep this Tamaron and use it for a lot of the stuff I do (travel, hiking, snapshots) Good luck. If super fast AF in difficult conditions and seriously sharp(prime nikon) photo's are not your biggest concerns, this lens should work well for you. Too me it feels like decent quality considering how light it is. Good luck.

Great all-around lens for amateurs,

My husband has this lens for his XTSi, and he hasn't taken it off of his camera body since he got it two years ago. It does have some heft to it, and it does slow down the autofocus in low light conditions, but overall, it's a great lens for the amateur photographer, especially someone who doesn't want to invest hundreds in different zoom lenses and then have to lug all of them around with you. Also, not having to change lenses is a big bonus -- Never again will you ever miss a shot because you couldn't get in tight enough!

Tamron 28-300 on Sony Alpha 230,

I did quite a bit of research before buying this lens and discovered nothing but great reviews. Unfortunately for me, I never could quite capture the crispy clear images that I thought I would. I find my Sony kit lenses work far better than the Tamron lens. I'm going to give the lens another try to see if this one is faulty. I do love the wide range from macro to zoom, but my photos just aren't as clear as I'd like. I'm an amateur photographer and the lens just doesn't wow me like the Sony kit lenses.

I ordered this lens through Amazon, it came on time and in good order. I tried it with my Sony Alpha 100 camera right away. As an amateur photographer, the photo quality came out quite good for the price that I paid for the lens. I love it and I have not removed it from my camera. For a traveler like me, it's great since I don't have to carry too many lenses along: just this Tamron 28-300 mm lens alone is good enough for me and I am quite happy with it.Great lens for the price that I paid! I received my Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR LD Aspherical Macro Ultra Zoom Lens in 3 days from the order date - great service! As I am a proud owner of a Sony Alpha (Minolta) this lens is perfect, providing a wonderful range (28mm -300mm) thus eliminating carrying a lot of extra lens, supreme lightness (Aspherical) a very reasonable price as no costly image stabilizer lens is required for the Alpha (the camera has it's own sensor stablizer), and the pictures are crystal clear! |
