From the Manufacturer
This is the definitive lightweight, compact telephoto macro zoom with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 300mm setting -- ideal for shooting subjects that are difficult to approach such as sporting and theatrical events. The lens also features special effects such as the capability to provide beautifully blurred backgrounds to highlight the main subject in portraiture, or "compression effects" that make the most of the telephoto lens. By switching to macro mode, subjects as close as 0.95m can be shot within the focal range of 180-300mm, for true macro photography. The optical system incorporates a LD (Low Dispersion) lens, resulting in clear sharp images free of chromatic aberration.
A true tele-zoom that covers 300mm ultra telephoto
The truly enjoyable telephoto effect is so hard to find with standard zoom lenses covering a mere 70mm or 105mm at their telephoto ends. The dynamic telephoto effects made possible by the 300mm focal length of this Tamron lens demonstrates its true power in cropping subjects tightly in distant scenery, shooting sporting and theatrical events, or for capturing subjects that are difficult to approach. The 300mm telephoto also offers dynamic compression effects by compressing the distance between subject and the background, and offers the capability to provide beautifully blurred backgrounds to highlight the main subject in portrait. These are the special effects 300mm ultra telephoto focal length can provide for creative photography.
Distances as close as 0.95m (37.4") by switching to macro mode
The M.O.D. (Minimum Object Distance) of the lens is 1.5m over the entire zoom range in normal setting. However, by switching to macro mode, distances as little as 0.95m from the subject are possible within the focal range of 180-300mm, for maximum 1:2 macro photography.
Maximum 1:2 Macro Magnification Ratio
At 300mm setting, a maximum 1:2 macro magnification ratio can be achieved at 0.95m from the subject. The true macro capability enables the photographer to enjoy shooting tiny subjects such as flowers and insects.
LD special glass material employed for high image quality
The optical system incorporates a costly LD glass element, in order to effectively reduce secondary or residual chromatic aberration often associated with telephoto lenses. This results in superb image quality even at the maximum open aperture.
