4.0 out of 5 stars Good Intro Wide Angle, September 29, 2005

This review is from: Tamron Autofocus 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras (Electronics)
19-35mm for 35mm, and equal to 35-56mm when used on 10D, 20D, Digital Rebel/ Rebel XT. 35-56mm is really not that wide, but where else can you get a cheap wide angel like this? (unless you have 20D/Rebel/Digital Rebel and have the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens)

As far as picture quality, I think it's fine. You can notice the distortion when focus is 19-20mm. Straight line is not exactly straight, but it's a common problem for mid and low end wide angel when used on shorter focus. It's a $200 lens, I expect this problem before I bought it.

Compared the picture taken on this lens and the Canon kit lens 18-55mm. Pictures on this lens is a bit sharper than the ones taken on 18-55mm, but the different is hard to notice unless you look closely.

This lens comes with hood. That's a plus.

It's 77mm filter thread.

I think I'd recommend this lens if you have a 28-105 or 28-135 walk around lens and need a wide angle. If budget is not a problem, go for Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L (around $700). If money is tight, this Tamron 19-35mm will do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super bargain--for a full frame camera, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Tamron Autofocus 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I got one of these second hand for my Canon 5D. I wanted to get a wide angle lens, but couldn't afford 700 dollars or more. I wasn't expecting much from this lens, and got a really pleasant surprise. It is surprisingly sharp and does a really good job. I generally keep it stopped down to 5.6 or 7.3, but I have good edges and even corners after I do so. This probably isn't the best wide angle you can buy, but for the money it is a heck of a bargain.
