Awesome converter...,

This review is from: Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro Teleconverter for Canon Mount Lenses (Electronics)
If you need an extremely high quality product, this is the one for you...I can't imagine that the canon version would be any better...Images are clear and sharp, just as sharp as the lens without the converter...I got this from 17th street photo at less than 170.00...a great price and delivery was ground, (in two days.) Their service is great...I use the converter on the canon 50mm 1.8 and 70/200 f4 L IS....amazing clarity and magnification...I'm extremely pleased with this purchase.

I was advised to buy this product from a PRO photographer and I'm very happy about it's performance... He said it works as good as the Canon model if not better... It was cheaper in price and I'm very happy with it...

Teleconverter and my Canon 70-200 f/4 L,

I attached the teleconverter to my Canon 70-200 zoom lens and Canon 30D camera. The fit of the teleconverter to the lens and camera seemed good.
I took a number of test pictures at different zoom settings which looked good on my PC. Also, the camera EXIF data showed the resulting focal length and f stop. For example when the lens f stop was set to f/4 the EXIF data showed a f stop of f/5.6 which is the correct f stop for the combination. The lens was fine and somehow survived the poor shipping package - the teleconverter box was inside a slightly higher, and much wider and longer box so it was free to slide back and forth. (There was no additional cushioning material.) Once upon a time I was a shipping clerk for a stationery store & I would have packed a $5 glass paper clip holder better than the lens was packed.

Not quite what is advertised!!!,

Bought this to use with my new Canon EOS 500D/Rebel T1i and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm zoom. When I received the product my first surprise was that in the included spec document it stated: "This teleconverter is not designed for digital use. We do not guarantee its performance when used on Digital SLR cameras."
One would think that this is a rather crucial piece of information to warn people about on the Amazon site, given the amount of DIGITAL SLRs and associated equipment being bought... The second surprise was that I could attach the converter to the camera OK, but neither the 250mm zoom nor the standard Canon 18-55mm zoom would fit on it. In short, this MAY be a good teleconverter, but the information provided (from both Amazon and Tamron) to properly inform the buyer on what it is compatible with is very poor and misleading...

I bought this lens from Amazon. It came with a solid build, and its color coating matches with Canon L lense. I tested it with my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens and Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens with a Canon Rebel XTi body. Auto Focus worked with both lens and produce quality pictures. Happy to have it.

I've used the 1.4 teleconverter several times now with the Tamron 200-500mm zoom lens, and so far it is working great. Sharp photos, sufficient light. I do use a tripod with it, but then I used a tripod or some kind of stabilizer with this lens even without the teleconverter. The only issue I see so far is that I have to use the manual focus more often than I did without it.

The reason why I bought this item is my tele-converterter (by Kenko) was out of order. Comparing the picture with the previous one, I could not find remarkable difference in the picture and the AF speed.
But, it seems sometimes the EXIF showed wrong information. I am not sure the cause is this item or my SLR...

I have only used the 1.4x converter for night photography. I bought it specifically to photograph the moon. Used it with a Tamron 200-400mm and on a Canon 100mm. I was amazed at what the converter did for the 100mm. Got nice twilight shots of the waxing crescent moon the day after Christmas. Included in the shot were Venus and about 20 other stars. This was a bonus, and I am using this shot as my current screen saver. The full moon on the 200-400 was tricky to get a good steady shot. I am pleased with the detail I got on the full moon. However, I tried to photograph the lunar eclipse in December and quickly had to adjust my ISO settings. The results were not so good. This may have been a photog issue, as I tried to keep my exposure to 1/30 sec at least. I have tested the converter during daylight, but will do so soon as I head out to Death Valley. Even though I shoot Canon, I chose the Tamron 1.4x over the Canon 1.4x simply because the main lens I intended to use it on is a Tamron. Both were same price. The converter is pristine and the front and read caps protect it sufficiently. Wonder how the 2x converter would fare? If you use the converter on a fast lens, you will be happy with the purchase. My Tamron 200-400mm zoomed all the way out is a f5.6 lens, and the converter will only work at f8.0 min. Should be sufficient for daylight.

GREAT TC+Cheaper Lens UPGRADE!!,
This review is from: Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro Teleconverter for Canon Mount Lenses (Electronics)
With a combo of my Nikon D300s+Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 and this Tamron SP AF 1.4x, I was able to get great up-close soccer photos! I can only speak for my lens combo, make sure you get the "SP" version of this TC. At 2.8, it will drop you a step to f/4.0, which is great during the morning/daytime games. In the evenings, I found I had to bump up my ISO with the above combination but cant beat it unless you have $$$$ for a 300mm f/2.8 :)

Don't buy this for a digital camera--Designed for Film only!!!,

This review is from: Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro Teleconverter for Canon Mount Lenses (Electronics)
I purchased this from Amazon.com in August of this year to use with my Canon 60D digital SLR and various lenses. The pictures I took with it came out soft and sometimes downright fuzzy, so this month I sent it back to Tamron (along with sample pictures) to have it checked and fixed. They responded that it checked out OK on their equipment to 'factory specs' but that there is a disclaimer on both their web site and in an insert in the package that says:"When used on Digital SLR cameras: This teleconverter is not designed for digital use. We do not guarantee its performance when used on Digital SLR cameras." In other words, although none of the sales materials, Amazon page, etc. have this disclaimer you are stuck with a teleconverter that won't work on a digital camera. I spoke in detail with several Tamron staff about this and they said 'sometimes they work and sometimes they don't' and 'we can't take them back or offer refunds'. Of course I purchased this in August and now it is November so I can't return it to Amazon either so I'm stuck with a product that is useless. Amazon should correct their web page to include the disclaimer and stop showing bundles of this product with digital camera lenses. Tamron should be ashamed of this deceptive marketing practice and include their disclaimer on the box and in their advertising. |
