All Tanaka products comply with EPA phase 2 regulations and all Tanaka product groups are C.A.R.B Tier II compliant. All Tanaka products feature professional-grade engine components. Just as not all engine technologies are equal, it is important to understand that not all manufacturers use the same high quality engine components throughout their product line. All Tanaka engines feature forged steel connecting rods instead of stamped steel, chrome plated cylinders vs. non chrome plated, and large, fiber lined clutch shoes instead of metal shoes to ensure more power transfer with less slippage.

Rear handle breaks off... poor customer service,

VERY weak rear handle attachment which is held in place only by molded plastic tabs and a plastic clip. They used this design to allow the rear handle to rotate, which isn't really necessary, and weakens the whole assembly. Handle fell off when the plastic tabs snapped off the end of the molded handle inside the body. When I contacted Tanaka, very poor customer service, they don't even stock replacement handles, and it isn't covered under the warranty. Had to spend hours to redesign and machine parts for a stronger method to re-attach the handle. A great tool and rugged, except for the poorly designed rear handle, which makes it useless when it breaks off, and don't expect any real customer service if you need it. It's sad to see a company that made its reputation on quality commercial tools and customer service drop to the level of so many of the companies that we now have to deal with; I guess that's what you get when they are gobbled-up by the large mass consumer products companies [Hitachi in this case]. Mine works fine, now that I made a new handle attachment method, but I just want any potential buyers of this product to know what they might run in to, especially if they don't have the resources to repair this design flaw.
