not made to handle much more than limbing trees. it is the cheapest chainsaw I have ever seen. Not worth the money!

This review is from: Tanaka TCS33EB/14 32cc 14-Inch 2-Stroke Gas Powered Rear Handle Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio)
First some background: I currently own a 50cc Stihl and 50cc Dolmar, have owned and used various chainsaws (Echo, Homelite)for the past 30+ years and cut 12+ cords of firewood each year. I was looking for a smaller/lighter saw to start training the kids on and bought the Tanaka TCS33EB 14" primarily because it was heavily discounted and a good experience with a Tanaka gas powered drill at my workplace.
I came quickly and in good shape -- got to love that SuperSaver shipping! My first impressions: very "plastic-y", but how they make chainsaws lighter these days. "Made in China" proudly displayed right below Tanaka and model number. The chain tensioning mechanism seems very light-duty and is mounted in the clutch cover rather than on the chassis proper. The chain is an Oregon brand 91VGX low kickback, but also "Made in China" -- I had no idea! It does come with a genuine NGK sparkplug. What I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around is that the crankcase is made of gray plastic(!) and not aluminum. How it runs: installed bar/chain. Noticed that the clutch drum rubbed on the chain-brake strap a bit. filled with high quality synthetic gas/oil mix at 40:1 and bar oil and it started right up with just a few pulls. Juggled the choke until it warmed up then cut for 15 minutes pausing only to check for heat/chain tension. Good throttle response with factory carb settings, good oiler output. A few days later I started it after it had been outside at +10f, 6 pulls. Warmed up it starts in 1 pull. It actually cut good for a 33cc saw. So far, so good. How long will it last? I'll update in 6 months. |
