Product Description

Sony Interactive move into PC and online gaming in one swift movement with an unmistakeable homage to Atari's Battlezone. Tanarus is specifically designed for team games on the internet - with each sides basic objective to eliminate opposing tanks and capture the enemy base. The game setup is a little more sophisticated than that, with players advised to take time to load their tanks with the best custom features. Each vehicle has a number of 'slots' taken up by weapons, shields, power units, radar devices etc. This gives further incentive for 'clans' to develop who use their tanks to perform different primary roles, though we imagine everyone will want to have the biggest guns. The battlefield is a sprawling urban environment with plenty of cover to lurk and ambush. To moderate the game tanks carry limited power, which must be topped up by generators or satellites stationed around the landscape. The game develops into a battle for these strategic points, allowing teams to step-stone their way across the battlefield, and preventing C&C style assaults early on in the game. Tanarus is viewed in 3D, with 3DFX available. The visuals are not exciting in comparison to some 3DFX work we've seen, but fast and smooth enough to make the game very playable. As the game is played online, patches and enhancements are automatically added when the player logs in.
