I have always purchase music that has been recommended or endorsed by Shiva Rea and I have never been disappointed. This album is a soothing, pleasant mixture of new age, ambient and world music; all thrown together but not disorganized! The variety and versatility of all of the tracks make this CD great for doing a vigorous yoga practice, cleaning house, working in the yard or just lying out by the pool! Well worth the money!

Excellent Asian Dub,

I picked this one up after a brief listen at Wild Oats listening station. It was marketed as a Yoga CD, but honestly it doesn't seem that suited to a serious Yoga session - which is a good thing. Really good yoga music shouldn't be interesting enough to distract you. And this one is quite interesting.I've tried various Asian Dub CD's before like Talvin Singh, Tabla Beat Science, etc and frankly I like this one best. More trippy sounding, no annoyingly strident vocals, lots of variety, interesting instrumentals and it doesn't kill you with repetition. This DJ is quite deft, and I'm surprised there aren't more big time releases from him. This is great stuff and I'll definitely keep my eyes open for new works by Pathaan in the future. Highly Recommended for Indian electronica but not necessarily Yoga music (at least not for me).

Brilliant World Music Compilation for Yoga,
This review is from: Tandava (Audio CD)
Shiva Rea continously champions the meeting place of the ancient and post-21st Century. In this collection of tracks, she calls upon the skills of Pathaan, a globe-trotting DJ famous in the UK and beyond for his Stoned Asia collection. The result: a vibrant musical palette of World Music and Electronic vibes that mesh seamlessly. Much like the Vinyasa yoga she teaches, Shiva and Pathaan's collection has a natural arc, mirroring the heartbeat of a Yoga practice. The opening tracks dawn like the morning sun, and build in heat and intensity. Amniotic's _Electric Sheep_ and Prem Joshua's remixed _Mangalam_ create the energetic spectrum of opening vinyasa and sun salutations. _Dub It_ from Gaudi, tracks from Govinda, Ikarus, and Karsh Kale stoke the fires necessary to sustain the standing poses and arm balances of a practice. And _Dreamcatcher_ from Bahramji and Maneesh de Moor, and others close the practice, deepening into the flow and opening into Relaxation. This is a must CD for all Vinyasa flow practices. A perfectly balanced blend for all levels of Classes.

Good, but not quite great,

I was looking for more of "Shaki Rhythms," the compilation that Shiva Rea put together. This is good, but it doesn't knock my socks off. I will probably cherry-pick some tunes from this to put together my own little compilation, so it's not as if it was a loss, just not stellar, IMHO.But just to be clear, I'm glad to have it (note the four stars). :)

Tandava,

If you like an active CD for yoga this one will suit your practice well. During some brief moments the music can be a little distracting, but overall a good addition to one's yoga music library.

Of the several CD of Pathaan, this is the smoothest. Soothing, cool, charming and with very little bumbs and jumps. If you like meditative trance music, this one is better. Mystical, and transcends time. You can listen to this while walking or cooking, etc. Relaxing.

Starts out fairly gentle but quickly builds energy to coincide nicely with an athletic yoga practice. Beautiful CD.
