Book Description

2009
Half-African, half-Indian and beautiful, Tandia is just a teenager when she is brutally attacked and violated by the South African police. Desperately afraid and consumed by hatred for the white man, Tandia seeks refuge in a brothel deep in the veld. There she learns to use her brilliant mind and extraordinary looks as weapons for the battles that lie ahead: she trains as a terrorist. But then Tandia meets a man with a past as strange as her own: Peekay, an Oxford undergraduate who is also the challenger for the world welterweight boxing championship - and a white man. And in a land where mixed relationships are outlawed, their growing love can only have the most explosive consequences . . . About the Author Bryce Courtenay was born in South Africa but has spent the greater part of his adult life in Australia. The Power of One and its sequel Tandia were international bestsellers. He lives in Sydney.

5.0 out of 5 stars It didn't disappoint, October 14, 2009

This review is from: Tandia (Mass Market Paperback)
The minute I got this book I opened it and never stopped reading till I was done. The first book The Power Of One has remained my favorite book out of hundreds read. I had no idea there was a sequel until by chance I looked it up here (more than 10 years later!) and saw that there were many written by Bryce Courtenay, I plan on getting them all. His books are not sold in the US.
Tandia picked up where The Power Of One left off, first introducing us to Tandia and her heartbreaking story and the many people that are in her life. We then catch up with Peekay and he intertwines with Tandias' life. The characters are so richly written, you feel as though you can hear them and see them, it makes for very rewarding reading. The history of South Africa is a tragic story but we see that the human spirit rises above and survives. Read these two books, see the movie The Power Of One, you will not forget it once you have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second only to The Power of One, January 3, 2011
This review is from: Tandia (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is possibly my second favourite of all time. Second to 'The Power of One' of course. I love the way this novel tells Tandia's story and then re-introduces us to Peekay. Courtenay ingeniusly combine sthe two stories and his imagery and language are second to none. The characters in this book are perhaps even more likeable and fun to read about than in the first book. There is nothing not to like about the story of Tandia. A must read for all Peekay fans!
