The minute I got this book I opened it and never stopped reading till I was done. The first book The Power Of One has remained my favorite book out of hundreds read. I had no idea there was a sequel until by chance I looked it up here (more than 10 years later!) and saw that there were many written by Bryce Courtenay, I plan on getting them all. His books are not sold in the US.
Tandia picked up where The Power Of One left off, first introducing us to Tandia and her heartbreaking story and the many people that are in her life. We then catch up with Peekay and he intertwines with Tandias' life. The characters are so richly written, you feel as though you can hear them and see them, it makes for very rewarding reading. The history of South Africa is a tragic story but we see that the human spirit rises above and survives. Read these two books, see the movie The Power Of One, you will not forget it once you have.

Second only to The Power of One,
This review is from: Tandia (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is possibly my second favourite of all time. Second to 'The Power of One' of course. I love the way this novel tells Tandia's story and then re-introduces us to Peekay. Courtenay ingeniusly combine sthe two stories and his imagery and language are second to none. The characters in this book are perhaps even more likeable and fun to read about than in the first book. There is nothing not to like about the story of Tandia. A must read for all Peekay fans!

Excellent insight into apartheid. Good characterization. Whereas Power of One focused on Peekay coming of age in South Africa as an white Anglo-Saxon, we are introduced to Tandia--a half Indian/half black African beauty. The discussion of the importance of hate as a motivator was well done. I gave Tandia only four stars because the ending, while surprising, seemed indecisive. I also enjoyed some of the religious humor. Wish Tandia was offered on Kindle?

Tandia set in the middle of the 20th Century in South Africa is Bryce Courtenay's 1992 sequel to his own best-selling novel The Power of One. It follows the story of a young woman, Tandia, who was brutally raped and then banished from her own home. Tandia later meets up with Peekay, the protagonist from The Power of One and their stories continue on together. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed The Kite Runner or The Power of One. I'm not quite sure why this sequel is not as widely read; however, it certainly should be!!! - Todd Fleischman

Great Read,

Overall, I found this book to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. Without giving away too much of the plot, I will admit that I was a bit disappointed with this book through the first part of it. It focuses less on the boxing that made the Power of One such a great read but instead focuses on his legal and educational exploits. As the book went along, however, one comes to accept the fact that Tandia isn't about just boxing or Peekay's journey to attempt to become the best welterweight in the world and the book instantly becomes more enjoyable. If you go into this book understanding that, then I guarantee that you will enjoy this book more. I will point out that this is a more inappropriate book than its predecessor and is probably not suitable for young teens and pre-teens ie. 11-14. Tandia features many exciting and riveting moments and keeps you coming back for more. One of the best things about this book is the fact that it will keep you occupied for a while. At over 900 pages, Tandia will last you a good while and provides for hours of great reading. Before you buy this, keep in mind that, while it is the sequel to The Power of One, it loses some of the charm and feel good moments that its predecessor brought us. All in all, I would definitely reccommend this book to anybody who wants to continue to follow Peekay's adventures.

This was a great sequel to "Power of One". A little long, perhaps, with some repetition, but powerful, nonetheless. Makes me feel so fortunate to live in a free country.
