Let's face it, this is basically a glorified stick. Cue caveman noises. But the design is clever, and it performs enough different functions to be worth the price. Every part of this tool is useful, from the rounded top (handy for pressing leather) to the pointy end (for those hard to reach areas). The taper is perfectly flat, which is useful for burnishing the backs of straps.

The indentations are actually sized to be useful for leather heavier than 6 oz, unlike the plastic edge burnisher Tandy sells. (For the record, skip that one and buy this one instead). The middle two sizes are perfect for 8-10 oz leather, and the bigger size works well for multiple layers. The smallest size works great for 4-5 oz.

Overall, this is a great tool that will handle all of your edge finishing needs.

The white nylon wheel slicker just doesn't work for me. This works like a charm, and quite fast, and any type of edge. It's amazing. I can't believe I did any leather projects without this before. What a difference in the "professionalism" of the final product.

Purchase a oak or hard wood burnisher. The one I received was made out of poplar.

Pro edge burnishers makes one with cocobolo wood. Its fantastic.

Picture below shows the best burnished I have owned...

Started some leather working and watched videos on T***y website. They recommend this and it seems to be just right for most of my smoothing needs. Will continue to use it.

This slicker is prefect for quickly burnishing leather projects. The multiple sizes are handy as well. Note the product is a little rough when initially purchased, but after a few leather projects, it smooths right out. The only drawback in the slow shipping.

Ordinary slicker. Works quite well. Was a gift for my brother and he is using it often for his leather projects. Can also be used as a paper fold creaser.

This is an awesome tool. The variable sizes and large flat area make it possible to burnish just about any width, size or shape of leather products. If you're looking for professionally finished edges on your leather projects, this tool is a must have

A great burnishing and edge finishing tool for any level leather worker, from novice to experienced. The design makes it useful in many ways. I've found the smallest indentation works well for 3-5 oz leather, the second and third indentation for 7-10 oz. and the largest for more than one layer of leather. Again, many uses for one small tool.

The tool measures approximately 6" long and 1" in diameter at the top (widest point). Unlike some other reviewers, the tool I received (December '15 order) is made from oak and is very sturdy.

Pros:
- Size is good for the purpose. The tool fits well in my (average sized) hand and is easy to grip.
- Multiple indentations make it great for almost any project
- Rounded top (a good surface for pressing) and pointed bottom (nice for getting into small crevices) are useful as well
- Small size makes it easy to keep with your other leather tools

Opportunities:
- Minor rough edges on it as received. Though they would likely work themselves out over time, I just took some 320 grit sandpaper to them and they smoothed out immediately
- Shipped from China so it does take a long time to arrive (appx 4 weeks). But if you're not in a hurry this is no big deal.

I've owned the nylon/plastic version(s) of this same tool and they just don't have the same "feel", and I find it frustrating to use. I am much happier using the wood tool and find the outcome is much better as well. It takes some elbow grease, but it is worth it.

For reference, I was able to pick this up for $2.10 with free shipping. At that price I highly recommend purchasing this tool and giving it a chance.
