5.0 out of 5 stars This album is so good I can't stop listening to it!
Forget 80's Vixen. This ain't no pop album. This album rocks like you never thought Vixen could. The only way to explain it is Pat Benatar meets L7. Strange? Well after the first few seconds of 'Page', you'll find yourself saying "This is Vixen?" They are no longer female Poisen clones. This album rocks harder than their last two by far. It took ten years,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Watch Out! This Is Not Your 80's Vixen!
I like Vixen's first two releases. It's bubble-gum rock and they do it well. Tangerine is NOT anything like their first two. It is an attempt by the gals to capture the 90's music scene with their own flair added. I personally could not stand a single song.

Other people who like more 90's music may love this album, but I think it is pathetic. If you can only buy one...

4.0 out of 5 stars Damn good, but not great!, July 16, 2005
By
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
I searched ten long years for another taste of the totally AWESOME voice that is Janet Gardner, so when I finally found "Tangerine" I bought it immediately!
Her voice is just as outstanding as ever, but the absence of Jan & Share is apparent in the music from the opening chords. Roxy is her rock-steady self, but Gina Stile is a great rhythm but only a good lead. The songs, as a whole, are good, but most could have been great with an "American Dream" style solo or a "Not A Minute Too Soon" thundering bass line. The studio guy they used on bass PALES in comparison!
If you like the crap that passes for music on the radio (Mave Datthews, Jora Nones, Dreen Gay, et al) these days, don't buy this CD - shoot yourself & put the rest of us out of your misery! If, however, you like KICK-ASS rock & roll sung by a great voice like Doro Pesch, Sandi Saraya or Ann Wilson - BUY ANY VIXEN CD IMMEDIATELY! This isn't the best one, but they're ALL better than today's FM fodder!

5.0 out of 5 stars Their BEST album!, August 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
With each Vixen album you can hear a growth lyrically and musically. This album definitly shows a older, mature Vixen! The lyrics are strong and amazing and the music is excellent. I wish they stayed together and put out another album cause it's like they just get better with every album (and i absolutley LOVE their first album!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year and no one has heard it?, November 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
This album, to me, is one of the best albums of 1998. Funny thing is that very few people have heard this CD. Radio has given it no airplay at all:( This is 11 of the strongest tracks Vixen has ever recorded. The title track "Tangerine" will blow the doors off. The song "Shut Up" says everything that we wish we could say to some people in our lives, but can't. The second single "Air Balloon" floats free and easy just like one. Pick this up, it is so good!!!

Absolutely the worste Vixen's album ever. It is not the melodic hard rock they used to play... it is a kind of grunge played without any ispiration, one of the worste CD I have ever bought!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the same 80s Vixen, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
This is totally different from the two hit albums Vixen produced in the late 80s and early 90s. Although it still has the same lead singer, the music is nothing like any of the first two albums. If you're expecting the same quality rock, forget it! This has a lot of discordant and haphazardly arranged accompaniment that really kills the mood--as well as any message the lyrics might contain. Steer clear and avoid like the plague, and just be glad the original Vixen put out 2 quality albums to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tangerine Rocks, March 10, 2004

Alban Schachte (Montgomery, Alabama) - See all my reviews

This is not only Vixen's best album, but it is one of the best rock albums of the 90's. There are two songs on here that I'm not crazy about (never say never and the instrumental untitled 12th track). Other than those, every song is a favorite.

If I had to choose just one absolute favorite song, I couldn't. It's down between Shut Up and Can't Control Myself for hardest rocking. But then there is the powerful emotion in Tangerine, Bleed, and Peace. I liked Air Balloon too, because it's weird and sometimes you just need some weirdness to round things out.

Every time I put this in the CD player, it makes me wonder why I ever pulled it out.

Turn up the bass on this one. If you don't have any bass, get some.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good album, with catchy pop/rock tunes., June 29, 1998
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
Saw the band at New Jersey's Birch Hill club and purchased the CD at the show after these fine female musicians put on one hell of a show. If you love rock, and the galm metal days of the 80's with 90's touches, get the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vixen does it again, June 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tangerine (Audio CD)
As I am sure all who have listened to it knows, Vixen did alter their style with Tangerine. The first time through the album is strange only because you expected the old style before hitting the play button. Before you judge the album, listen to it 3 or 4 times through. You will find that not only does it grow on you, but as you learn the lyrics, you will like the change that was made. The bands that are making it today have this same style of music behind their lyrics. Vixen still rocks the house down, and if you listen carefully you still hear the old Vixen accompanied with the newer sound. It would be crazy to think a band who wanted to make something of themselves today wouldn't change with the times. Lets face it, even though some of us are still jamming to the older rock, including Vixens two great albums, the past is history. Some of the greatest bands have made notable changes in their music to meet the taste of the times. In my opinion, Vixen hit the nail on the head. I not only think this is a great album, I think it has staying power. I hope to see many more to come. Great Job to the members of Vixen! Keep it up.
