Book Description

November 25, 2011
Yara Jones doesn't believe in sea monsters-until she becomes one. When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious.

Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people-until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. She could lose her soul in the process-or she might open the gateway to a love that's deeper than the oceans.

Publisher's Marketing

I adored this tale of sea monsters and forbidden love. Full of deception, romance, and intrigue, Tangled Tides is a story best savored but impossible to put down.
- PJ Hoover, author of SOLSTICE

Tangled Tides includes a delicious romance that even the most dispassionate soul can t refuse. I absolutely adored Yara and her strength in all things, including love. And Treygan? I seriously want in on that merman action. Blue has never been so sexy. Hooper has created a believable underwater world that will leave readers wishing for a tail instead of legs.
- Elana Johnson, author of POSSESSION

Tangled Tides is a delightful, smartly plotted tale of adventure, family secrets, and sizzling romance. I couldn t put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic YA romantic fantasy - a must read! November 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
The day before Yara's 18th birthday, her guardian - who she calls Uncle Lloyd - has gone to the mainland from the Florida Keys to have kidney dialysis, and a hurricane is blowing up. While she struggles to cover the windows, a stranger appears, offering to help her. He says his name is Treygan and somehow he makes her feel safe and warm. He offers to take her someplace safe, if that is her wish, and she makes the wish. The next thing she knows, she's waking up a mermaid. What has happened to her? How can she go back to the way things were? And most importantly - why has all this happened right now?

Releasing 11/25/11 from Rhemalda, "Tangled Tides" is a wonderfully fun YA paranormal fantasy with strong elements of romance. While it makes use of the typical triad and oodles of problems getting along between the romantic leads, it all fits in the story and makes sense - unlike many where there is no particular reason. I found it quite refreshing and enjoyable for the plot to be so well-developed. Also, there are a lot of great suspense elements, and plot twists and turns - while I caught a few of the hints far enough ahead of guess what was coming, there were many I didn't. This story will definitely keep you guessing! Merfolk aren't the only paranormals to make an appearance, either - there are sirens, gorgons, selkies, sprites ... it's a wonderfully diverse cast. I can say that this is a book I would definitely recommend to people who enjoy romance, fantasy, paranormal and magical reality stories - don't miss it - available 11/25/11.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST book I've read in a LONG time! May 11, 2012
By Lavon
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow, I haven't read a book that had me this intrigued in a long time. I say the best, and I hate to label things that way. Any previous book that I've called the best, sorry but you gotta move over...TANGLED TIDES just took the top spot.

It's well written, intriguing, different, AWESOME!!! A refreshing YA, with mermaids, selkies, sirens and gorgons. It's such an interesting concept that you don't find in books these days. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Exciting, ACTION-PACKED, wild ride through the ocean and land. WOW! It doesn't take long for the story's action to start and I LOVE that. The twists and turns keep you turning the page, along with the sizzling romance that could light the ocean on fire! Oh, man. That was corny. But seriously.

You thought your family had problems!!

Awesome debut. I'll be looking for more from Karen Amanda Hooper!!

*ahem* TEAM SIRENS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Good January 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
I loved this! It was so original and refreshing with compelling characters and world building that made you nearly feel as though these creatures could really exist out there in the ocean somewhere. My connection to the characters was almost instantaneous and I loved the way their relationships developed throughout the novel. There is some sensuality and sort of drug references (you'll have to read it to see what I mean) but both are handled well by the author and are completely natural to the novel. Karen's beautiful writing has made a fan of me. I look forward to her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Captivating and Exciting Story November 22, 2011
Format:Paperback
Karen Amanda Hooper's Tangled Tides is the story of Yara who wakes up as a mermaid after a hurricane. Yara finds herself learning more about the merfolk and selkies. She also discovers that both sides believe that she can save them by reopening the gateway to their realm.

Tangled Tides is a captivating and exciting story with strongly developed characters. Yara is tough and stubborn but also brave. She finds herself in the middle of a world that she has only ever heard stories of. Treygan is a bit mysterious in the beginning and I love how his character develops. The complicated relationship between Treygan and Yara naturally grows as the story progresses as well.

There are so many other characters that I also enjoyed such as Rowan, Delmar, Pango, and Koraline. I especially liked how the narration switches between Yara, Treygan, and Rowan because it helped understand each character's motives more clearly.

Tangled Tides dives right into the story from the very first page. I did not want to put this book down for even a second but I also didn't want it to end. I loved learning about the mythology of the merfolk, selkies, and sirens. Hooper creates an exciting and interesting world that I instantly fell in love with. I have been looking for a good mermaid story for sometime now and this was definitely it. The plot has a few unexpected twists and I especially loved the ending. I will definitely be looking forward to what Hooper writes next. I strongly recommend Tangled Tides, you won't want to miss out on this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously awesome! And hot! November 7, 2011
Format:Paperback
I had the very fortunate luck of reading this back in August, and for the two days I read it, I could not put it down. Seriously. All I wanted to do was read the book, so my nose was stuck in my Nook until I finished.

First off, I have to say, I don't think I have ever read another mermaid book. I'd seen SPLASH like a million years ago back in the 80s, and though it was cute, mermaids were just not something I thought I cared much about. That is until I read TANGLED TIDES. I have a whole new opinion of them now.

I'll admit it. I am a sucker for romance. But, with this in mind, I want romance to really sizzle and to really work. And I want those moments of frustration between the characters, but I don't want them to last too long. And in all these aspects, TANGLED TIDES comes through big time. But don't think this story is simply some fluffy romance. There are real world consequences to the tune of an entire race dying off and war between sea creatures. And, like so many good stories, the main characters have to solve their own problems or all will be lost.

Okay, enough rambling. In short, I loved this book. I was honored to be an early reader, and I will recommend this one to everyone I can. Full of deception, forbidden love, and intrigue, TANGLED TIDES is a story best savored but impossible to put down.

*And on a final note, the publisher has this book for a great price if you pre-order (which you should). So definitely check it out!
