Book Description

November 25, 2011
Yara Jones doesn't believe in sea monsters-until she becomes one. When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious.

Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people-until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. She could lose her soul in the process-or she might open the gateway to a love that's deeper than the oceans.

Publisher's Marketing

I adored this tale of sea monsters and forbidden love. Full of deception, romance, and intrigue, Tangled Tides is a story best savored but impossible to put down.
- PJ Hoover, author of SOLSTICE

Tangled Tides includes a delicious romance that even the most dispassionate soul can t refuse. I absolutely adored Yara and her strength in all things, including love. And Treygan? I seriously want in on that merman action. Blue has never been so sexy. Hooper has created a believable underwater world that will leave readers wishing for a tail instead of legs.
- Elana Johnson, author of POSSESSION

Tangled Tides is a delightful, smartly plotted tale of adventure, family secrets, and sizzling romance. I couldn t put it down!
- Rae Carson, author of THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic YA romantic fantasy - a must read!, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Tangled Tides (Paperback)
The day before Yara's 18th birthday, her guardian - who she calls Uncle Lloyd - has gone to the mainland from the Florida Keys to have kidney dialysis, and a hurricane is blowing up. While she struggles to cover the windows, a stranger appears, offering to help her. He says his name is Treygan and somehow he makes her feel safe and warm. He offers to take her someplace safe, if that is her wish, and she makes the wish. The next thing she knows, she's waking up a mermaid. What has happened to her? How can she go back to the way things were? And most importantly - why has all this happened right now?

Releasing 11/25/11 from Rhemalda, "Tangled Tides" is a wonderfully fun YA paranormal fantasy with strong elements of romance. While it makes use of the typical triad and oodles of problems getting along between the romantic leads, it all fits in the story and makes sense - unlike many where there is no particular reason. I found it quite refreshing and enjoyable for the plot to be so well-developed. Also, there are a lot of great suspense elements, and plot twists and turns - while I caught a few of the hints far enough ahead of guess what was coming, there were many I didn't. This story will definitely keep you guessing! Merfolk aren't the only paranormals to make an appearance, either - there are sirens, gorgons, selkies, sprites ... it's a wonderfully diverse cast. I can say that this is a book I would definitely recommend to people who enjoy romance, fantasy, paranormal and magical reality stories - don't miss it - available 11/25/11.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut!! Tangled Tides. YEAH. You aren't kidding!, November 26, 2011

Exciting, ACTION-PACKED, wild ride through the ocean and land. WOW! It doesn't take long for the story's action to start and I LOVE that. The twists and turns keep you turning the page, along with the sizzling romance that could light the ocean on fire! Oh, man. That was corny. But seriously.

You thought your family had problems!!

Awesome debut. I'll be looking for more from Karen Amanda Hooper!!

*ahem* TEAM SIRENS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mermaids--Selkies--Sirens--Gorgons, November 27, 2011

Karen Amanda Hooper does not leave her readers waiting for action, she dives right in from the very first page. A hurricane has hit where Yara (mc) lives and a mysterious man shows up to help her secure her home and then *sort of* tricks her into making a wish for safety that turns her into a mermaid and delves her into the depths of the ocean and a tragedy that began 18 years earlier that she is only one that can *fix* it.

I know I am being slightly fague here, but I don't want to spoil the story for you. It is so good you need to read it on your own.

Some unique things that I want to bring out are first I love how the story is told from three distinct perspectives; Yara, Treygan and Rownan. I have the paperback version of this book and the the layout is stunning with the breaks between the three characters. You always know whose perspective you are in. I love it.

I also love that rather than chapters we have days and sunsets. I thought that really helped in understanding the time sequence of the story.

This book was fantastic; it had both light and dark, romance and tragedy.

I can't wait to see what else Karen Amanda Hooper has in store for Yara, Treygan and Rownan.
