5.0 out of 5 stars The best Dylan reference book ever
I bought the first edition of Tangled Up In Tapes, back in 1987 (?), and it's come one hell of a long way since then. Glen Dundas has written THE essential Dylan book (along side 'Lyrics' !). 2.0 out of 5 stars all this info is easy to find online
This book would be quite useful to keep track of Dylan shows and setlists if..... the internet didn't exist! Within 5 minutes anyone can find the setlist to any Dylan show, ever! why do we need a book.

Instead of Buying this book try and find a Dylan boot isn't just a restatement of what we can find out anyway!

Everything about this book is now first class - from cover to cover the presentation is immaculate, the information is laid out in a very clear way, with no need for a complicated set of annotations, footnotes or cross references. The photo's too are first class - interesting shots, well presented on good quality paper - excellent. In short: I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As essential as ears to listening to Dylan!, June 6, 1999

This review is from: Tangled Up In Tapes : a Recording History of Bob Dylan (Paperback)
Only Bob Dylan knows where Bob Dylan is going, but Glen Dundas knows where Dylan's been and what he's been doing. It's all here in the new, improved 4th edition of Tangled Up In Tapes. I am intriqued by the fact that this is all about Dylan's career and music, and not the annoying personal interpretations of the artists work or a furtive look into the man's private life. It's all about the music career in an easy to read new format. Very user friendly and by far the best edition yet. Every show, every studio session, every song and even the musicians involved are right at your fingertips. This is an essential tool for both the serious collector and the casual fan. As Dylan continues to re-invent himself, Dundas is gathering the information and presenting it to us and future generations. All the "what, where and when" and none of the unnecessary "why". Dundas has done an excellent job in condensing this vast wealth of material into a concise 334 pages without missing anything. As an added bonus, the book contains many amazing photographs. Check out the 1975 photo on back cover. Worth the price of the book in itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars DUNDAS UNTANGLES TAPES, June 13, 1999
This review is from: Tangled Up In Tapes : a Recording History of Bob Dylan (Paperback)
The previous reviews say it all. Glen has made collecting Bob Dylan tapes so much easier. This book is absolutely the best of it's type out there. If Dylan collectors had a "Best Seller" list, this would certainly have to be at the top. Thanks Glen.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Book for any Dylan Enthusiast, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tangled Up In Tapes : a Recording History of Bob Dylan (Paperback)
The latest edition of this book is a definite must for any Dylan fan. The book spans Dylans entire career giving setlists of all known performances (studio and live conerts)in a list format which makes it interesting for collectors as well as casual fans. The book also documents musicians who played on each tour or studio session.

This book is not only a reference book but also intriguing to see Dylan's variation of songs played from tour to tour and night to night.

Glen Dundas is one of today's top Dylanologists. Dundas's thirst for accuracy as well as his love of Dylan's music make this book well worth reading.

Even Bob Dylan himself has read Tangled Up in Tapes. If you only buy 1 Bob Dylan book this year, this is the one !

I have may have to buy another since my copy is getting worn out fast.

2.0 out of 5 stars i heard a book a-comin' this way, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tangled Up In Tapes : a Recording History of Bob Dylan (Paperback)
its one thing to stand on your head and say bob dylan read this book.....to say bob dylan reads bob dylan books. whats worse to is to accuse bob dylan of being a dylanologist----a dylanologist employed in the business of being bob dylan............

i cant make out the sentences too good but the book is better read aloud in my mind, from a platform or atop an elephant on a parade. otherwise we are left in trap of dates here and there moving from past to present and onward. nowhere on this book can i find the date in nagadoches, in a beer and pretezel bar, a luminous gig, of course-----someone resembling and claiming to be kris kristofferson had to be taken into custody for attemting to play a mexican trumpet onstage, all the while bob dylan was said to have escaped throught he back door jumping on a horse and riding into town, selling his guitar at a rundown pawn shop. i give the book two stars for the two stars in my eyes.
