Definitely Gets Them.......,

This review is from: Tanglefoot 300000666 Japanese Beetle Xpando Trap (Lawn & Patio)
For some reason the Japanese beetles have come out in full force this summer. I've always had them munching on my rhubarb plants but this year they have made a major assault on three of my apple trees and they are starting on two others. While the traps will not solve the problem they do live up to their promise of attracting the beetles to the trap. One thing should be stressed when cleaning out the container. Do it in the morning or evening when it has cooled down. What I do is take two plastic grocery bags(one inside another) and untwist the hard plastic container. The container was so full that the beetles were dropping out as I undid the container. Quickly (I really stress this) put the opening of the container in the bag and shake it. The beetles will fall into the bag and after you feel as though you've got the container cleaned out, close the bag fast. If you do this at noon you will find yourself dealing with very active beetles flying out of the container and buzzing near you.
I left my bag laying out in the hot afternoon sun and then disposed of the beetles in my garbage can.

Most cost effective method for trapping and disposing of beatles,
By Frederick Dunn "The Fellowship Of The Feather" (Rural Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

There are many options out there for capturing the dreaded Japanese Beetle.
Many of them include bags, which you have to purchase in quantity and it's expensive aside from being wasteful. My dog has chewed through the bags of other systems. The Tangle Foot trap is re-usable and saves money and waste in the long run. The traps are well designed, can handle high wind conditions (bags often tear and lose their contents). The expandable traps are well made and easy to wash out, have drainage holes so the beetles once trapped, do not rot in the summer heat in their own juices. I made a video where I review the merit of these well designed traps, you may view it on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix9GHjmsAno I don't sell them, nor have an interested in marketing them. My goal is to educate people as to the best and least wasteful methods of capture. Don't buy bags, that's just silly.... capture and compost or recycle the beetles by giving them to chickens or other birds (kill them in soapy water first). This is hands down, the most effective method of attracting and capturing Japanese Beetles. Some will say that drawing beetles to a trap, also brings them to your yard/property from other yards? This may be true, however, you are indeed removing them from the breeding cycle and over years to come, if you are consistent, the numbers will be reduced greatly. Without these traps, I would have lost all of my plumb trees to defoliating beetles. The only thing you have to replace with this system is the bait. That is very inexpensive in the long run. Happy Beetle Trapping!

Saved My Apple Trees,

This review is from: Tanglefoot 300000666 Japanese Beetle Xpando Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I ordered this trap because I got an infestation of Japanese beetles. There were hundreds of beetles on my two young apple trees. There were so many beetles that I was a little afraid they might even kill my apple trees. Even if they didn't kill the trees, I was sure they would at least seriously diminish the trees' growth and productivity. I only had this serious infestation for about five days, but they definitely left their mark and I was afraid of what more they would do. I ordered this trap and anxiously awaited for its arrival. I was hoping that it would tone down my beetle infestation to the point that they wouldn't seriously damage my trees. I setup the trap around 1PM or 2PM. I didn't fully finish setting it up because I wasn't sure whether the scent trap needed to have its cover fully pulled off. I half pulled off the cover to the scent trap, and then I went inside to watch the YouTube review by Frederick Dunn to make sure I was setting up the trap correctly. When I came to finish configuring the trap just a couple of minutes later, I saw a swarm of beetles heading over to the trap. It looked almost as though something was physically sucking them into the trap. I could visibly see a stream of beetles going straight from my apple trees into the trap. I was going to try to get a video of that because I thought it was pretty amazing, but I unfortunately got a call and had to go back inside. When I finally got to check the trap again around 6PM or so, the trap was nearly full. As per advice I read, I decided to leave them in overnight and dump them out in the morning. When I went out the next morning to dump out my trap, I surveyed my trees and only managed to find one Japanese beetle still on the trees. I was very happy with this trap and I would definitely recommend it. Update: Over the next two weeks, I got so many beetles that I got tired of dumping the trap out. There were a couple days that I had to dump out the trap four or five times in a single day. I even got a second trap and still regularly had to empty both the traps more than once a day. It became obvious to me after a while that I was not only catching the beetles from my yard, but also a lot of the beetles in the surrounding area. I kept up with it, though, because I wanted to try to rid my area of the menace as much as possible. After two weeks, though, I had to leave for a trip, and since I wouldn't be there to empty the traps, I decided to put the traps away while I was gone. When I got back the beetles weren't bothering my trees much at all and so I decided not to bring the traps back out unless I saw more beetles get the trees. Its been about a month now and the beetles really haven't bothered the trees significantly since. It was a lot of work emptying those beetles out all the time, and I am pretty sure I was capturing more beetles than just the ones that would have come to the tree anyways, but it did do a good job of getting them away from my trees, and it was worth it in the end. Hopefully with how many I caught, I might even manage to have less of them around next year.

This is my third year with Japanese Beetles. Each year, I see more and more of them. This year, I'd had enough and purchased one of those "bag a bug" kits at Home Depot. Those work well, but you will end up spending a lot of $$$ on bags if you have a lot of beetles and the bags are flimsy and get blow about in the wind pretty easily. I saw the Tanglefoot trap on Amazon and was sold immediately. Sure, the cost is higher, but it's reusable for YEARS. It's really sturdy and within three days, it was full of beetles.
Setup is easy and within seconds of hanging it, beetles were flocking to the trap. Remember to place it AWAY from the bushes and plants the beetles are attacking so the only place they have to land IS the trap. Most websites with advice about controlling Japanese Beetles advise NOT to use the bag system as the lures attract more beetles to your yard. This is 100% true - you will see more beetles near the trap than you ever saw on your bushes. However, with the right placement, it will draw the beetles *away* from your plants and bushes and will take 1000s of beetles out of the breeding cycle, and that's a good thing in my book. Sure, I'm trapping beetles from many yards around me, but let's remember - these beetles are not breeding and laying eggs, so the numbers will be reduced. I really love that this trap is reusable. It's very sturdy and easy to remove, dump and clean. I only wish it was a little bigger! And for the price, it would be nice if they included a pole/stand. Remember to clean out beetles frequently - they STINK after awhile!

The Best Japanese Beetle Trap Available,

I absolutely love the Tanglefoot Beetle trap; it's virtually maintenance-free and supremely effective at trapping Japanese Beetles which have become a huge problem in Michigan in recent years. Two of these have virtually eradicated the beetles from my 15,000' yard.
The traps are easy to assemble, easy to place, and easy to empty (which becomes a necessity after a while because the dead beetles stink horribly. The best part about them is that they're reusable; I just pack them away in the winter and bring them back out in the summer when the beetles return (though I haven't seen hardly any of them yet this year - a fact likely owed to how effective these traps are). I like these so much I bought a few for my parents' farm and they've performed magnificently there too.

Best trap I've used for beetles,

After having lots of bad luck with the bags that have been in use for years (the beatles would chew through them and just fly away), I ran across these and decided to give them a try. I have a large yard and have 3 of them placed in different areas. It's amazing how many are caught and it's so easy to dispose of them and reuse the container. Plus they fold down for storage in the off-season. I got mine out the other day and the baits are still working from last year! I would highly recommend these to others.

Awesome!! Set this up one day, the next it was FULL! I'm sure it attracts beetles from beyond our huge yard, but we are THRILLED with this trap. Within a couple of days, the beetles that were destroying my hollyhocks were trapped! About every other day my husband emptied the trap into our pond, where the fish had a field day! Kids thought it was the coolest thing ever. We're very satisfied. In an average size yard, one would do fine. We're on 40 acres, with 10 acres for our yard; I will probably get a second one next year.

We were looking for a better beetle trap, and found it. These are much easier to handle and easy to clean. Plus we'll only have to buy new bait for next season. After receiving the first two traps, we immediately bought two more.

Purchased the trap as a second trap to cover additional areas of my property. You can stand and watch the beetles fly into the trap. It collects a large number in a short period of time. This is a new design. I owned the prior design that had a split collection bottle. It was easy to clean.
