5.0 out of 5 stars Take Me To The Tango Bar!, October 30, 2001
This review is from: Tango Bar [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a MUST for anyone who enjoys doing the tango, listening to the music, or just watching the tango danced! What I enjoyed most in this move was how the history of Tango and the politics of Argentina were interwoven in the story. It portrays how the dance evolved from the barrios to the bordellos early in the 20th century, to how it made its way to the elite ballrooms and salons of Europe and New York in the 1920's, through the 1930's-40's and 50's, ultimately to contemporary evocations of Tango. The love story triangle was a bit corny, but it works with the whole presentation. I could watch this movie over and over again, enjoying the music and studying the superb execution of the dancers! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tango Delicioso!, July 24, 2002

This review is from: Tango Bar [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I love this movie! Sure, it's all over the map, politics, dancing, clips, cartoons, you name it. I've always considered it to be the "That's Entertainment!" of the tango. The political plot is honest but thin gruel, and the love story is already over since it's told in flashback. But Raul is great, Lynch is fabulous as the female lead (her rendition of "Nostalgia" is gripping!) and the "real time" dance sequences are nothing less than stunning, whether group numbers or duets. The market sequence where we see the stalls, the vibrant colors of the food and merchandise, and feel the tension build as the woman seeks her lover gets me loosey-goosey every time, and I've watched it more than a dozen. I shouldn't go on, I'll bid up the price...

5.0 out of 5 stars All about Tango... and more., September 5, 2005

This review is not from a DVD version. I have the VHS copy of the movie and is beautiful. It has everything: drama, romance, magnificent music, and fabulous dancing.

It is impossible to understand why the powers that be have not issue this marvelous movie in a Reg. 1 DVD. One could imagine that the US market should be apealing, however it is business and I really do not know what is going on.

In any case, if you have never watched the dance or are curious about it, watch this movie. You will never forget it. One word of caution: Tango is highly addictive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Tango, December 31, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tango Bar [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is about the sexiest tango movie I've seen. TANGO is good, but TANGO BAR is better. The Argentine dance sequences are good but some of the stage lighting are a bit too stark. The women are gorgeous and sexy. There is a thin plot about two guys loving the same woman, but the history of tango shown in film clips is what makes this movie great. Especially Charlie Chaplin's tango! The dance sequences are well done, although I don't care for tango ballet. If you dance the tango you'll enjoy this movie all the more. (Raul Julia is a piano player and doesn't dance much. Who cares?)

5.0 out of 5 stars A rich personal and historical view of the Tango culture, May 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tango Bar [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film is excellent! It portrays the story of two Argentines and a Puerto Rican who after many years of performing together go their separate ways but are finally re-united. Through the emotions of the characters, the film demonstrates the deep and rich history of the Tango and is a great tribute to the South American Dance! A must see for dance fanatics. It is also the Spanish language at its best! Culturally rich and beautiful!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great movie about Tango, August 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tango Bar [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The dancing in this movie is excellent. The story line, like most 'tango movies', is not the foremost item. The dancing along with the progression of tango throughout its inception to its golden age and how it was portrayed in 'Hollywood' is worth viewing again and again. I have seen it about a dozen times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tango Bar, June 11, 2008
I saw it in the VHS format, excellent music, dancing, plot, and performance by all the cast especially Raul Julia.
A must see by Milongeros and Tango lovers.
It is a shame that it is not available in the USA Format.
This is truly a Collector's Item.
