5.0 out of 5 stars Tango a la Julio
Tango is wonderful earthy music with lots of sharp edges and angles. If you're a tango purist, you should have known better than to look to Julio Iglesias to provide that...stick with Gardel or Piazzolla. You might as well find fault with a nightingale because it's not a hawk.

Julio has delivered exactly what one would expect here...tango with the rough...

Dance teachers spend lots of time agonizing over appropriate tempo tangos. No, seriously, we really do. A great tango isn't always a great choice for dancing. Let's face it: Argentine Tangos, American Tangos, and International-style Tangos are not all measured the same way, or danced anywhere close to the same style or technique (well they are, but dancers know what I...

Julio has delivered exactly what one would expect here...tango with the rough edges filed down and buffed smooth. To his fans this CD is probably an "improvement" on tango. It's lush...it's lovely...it's typically Julio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Julio en 'Tango', August 2, 2005
This review is from: Tango (Audio CD)
Julio doesn't have a great voice but he has that special tone that let you hear the music and the letter at the same time and enjoy them together. This CD have a very good selection of 'tangos argentinos' and even if you don't speak spanish you still can enjoy the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Tangos From Iglesias...But It's Not Gardel!!!, July 4, 2003
This review is from: Tango (Audio CD)
I absolutely adore tango and no one does it better than the brilliant, and charismatic, Carlos Gardel. That said, or opined, I will now move on to Julio Iglesias and "Tango." Although this collection is not typical Iglesias, he does make music that works...and it is smooth! He brings his own style of Julio to the tango, and the combination is magical. He sings with passion and drama, although not with the eroticism, edge, nor the Argentinean flavor of Gardel. The selections in this collections are perfect to showcase Sr. Iglesias' talent, and to make the listener want to get up and dance.

Some of my favorite cuts are: "A Media Luz," (that I find myself humming at the oddest moments), the nostalgic "Volver," and "Adios Pampa Mia," and the soulful " Caminito," and "Yira...Yira." This is a a wonderful collection for Iglesias fans and all non-purists who love tango.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eminently listenable., April 6, 2010
This review is from: Tango (Audio CD)
We purchased this CD in Santa Fe several years ago and ended up listening to it over and over again on the drive home. It is now on regular rotation on our CD player, along with Pete Fountain's A Touch of Class. Makes great dinner background music but is quite romantic as well. Of all the CDs we own there are only a few that we come back to time and time again -- and this is definitely one of them.

Great tango songs sung by a great Latin voice.

I have two copies of this wonderful CD one at home and one in the car. I simply cannot imagine going back home after a long day without lisetening to Julio's soothing voice singing this great collection of tango themes.

I recommend that you get this CD NOW! You'll thank me.

Dance teachers spend lots of time agonizing over appropriate tempo tangos. No, seriously, we really do. A great tango isn't always a great choice for dancing. Let's face it: Argentine Tangos, American Tangos, and International-style Tangos are not all measured the same way, or danced anywhere close to the same style or technique (well they are, but dancers know what I mean). This is one of those surprisingly useful CDs to a lover of American Tango. Timed right and oh my gosh not boring music. Julio is about passionate interpretations of these tango standards, and the depth of emotion slows the tempo a little to make this great stuff for American dancers (again, who knew?). The bonus is it's all upbeat, friendly material that will not snooze students or other listeners. There's a lot of strict tempo CDs out there that should be burned as a public service to the art of tango and dancing in general. I should state immediately that not every track is a good dance selection, but I use at least five of these for classes. That's a windfall for Tango. Argentine enthuiasts need look elsewhere, like the Tango Project, maybe. There's a few tracks on here with lots of slow places and set-ups for choreography. Worth putting in the Tango Collection...
