4.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
For the price, this is a good item. When readings were compared to a more expensive brand and the gym equipment it was accurate. Only drawback is, you will get an error reading if you are in the midst of strenuous activity that prevents you from being still enough for it to register, but still a good buy for under $50.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not to impressed
Works about a third of the time. I have gone back to measuring the old fashion way (finger on the neck.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Surest Way to Your Heart, January 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
I've had one for a couple of years and use it to track my heart rate in a Winter Conditioning class for cyclists. It's much handier than the ones that require a strap. It also doesn't get interference from other heart monitors - in my class, those with the strap-type monitors have to position their bikes (stationary) just so to avoid picking up stray beats. I've compared its results to those on treadmills, etc., and it's consistent with what it reports for my heart rate. My only complaint is that the battery is prone to dislocate itself, and I have to open the back and reposition it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent device, November 29, 2004
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
I looked at numerous devices before settling on this one because it seemed easy to use (and I don't need another watch). I calibrated it against manually reading my pulse and found it to be accurate. To use, place your first finger on the sensor, stay calm (!), then click the button. Wiggling will destroy the reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works best when sitting on the couch..., August 9, 2004
By
I purchased this monitor because I wanted to check my heart rate while exercising, and it was much cheaper than the kinds with the chest strap and watch. However, it seems that there are a lot of things that interfere with the monitor reading your pulse. Specifically, mine will not read accurately if I am moving at all. It is difficult to check your pulse when exercising if you have to completely stop moving first. Even when I'm stopped, sometimes I cannot get my finger positioned just right on the pad, and I can see that it is reading my pulse erratically (there is a little heart that flashes.)

If you only want to check your pulse occasionally, and you are a patient person, this might be the right monitor for you. If you want to monitor your pulse more closely during exercise, you may be happier with the traditional chest strap models. In the end I wound up buying one of those, and I'm much happier with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for taking resting heart rate in the morning, June 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
The 6102 works well for getting my resting heart rate first thing in the morning. The display is large enough to read without reading glasses, too. I have not tried using it during exercise, as I already have a Polar HRM.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for morning resting heart rate results, January 17, 2006

This device is a simple and fairly accurate way to measure your heart rate. I use it to determine my resting heart rate in the morning and at various times throughout the day. It is sensitive to movement and therefore sometimes produces erroneous results. For this reason I would not recommend it to determine your heart rate while exercising. For accuracy I take my heart rate 2 or 3 times. You can't beat the price but I wish it was backlit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for my purpose, February 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
The monitor is relatively cheap, easy to use, and mostly accurate. The one gripe I have is that if I take my pulse 3 times in one minute or less the rate can range by up to 40 points! Usually, this is not a problem. I tend to check it 3 times and average the 3 which is sufficient for my purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and Simple, October 25, 2006
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
No chest straps... just place your thumb on the monitor and get a heart rate!!!

I can wear this monitor around my neck or wrist and get an accurate heart rate in 2 seconds.

I have no trouble whether I am biking or doing elliptic regardless of how much I've been sweating.

I cannot get a reading from 98% of the machines at my gym. I tried to use a Reebok strapless wristwatch monitor (trying to put two fingertips on either side of the face) and had to wait about two minutes for a reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tachycardia check-ins, November 13, 2006
This review is from: Tanita 6102 Cardio Heart Rate Monitor (Health and Beauty)
Useful to me to check my heart rate at various times during the day. Have to be still to get a reading, so not useful if walking, biking etc. But for the price, worth it to me.
