The -only- reason I am keeping this scale is that it allows me to store my weight on my Garmin FR60 watch and upload all my weight data to Garmin Connect automatically; this is a nice addition to my training gear. As a scale, it is mediocre at best. There are much cheaper scales that do a much more thorough job (Omron's for example). This scale measures weight, body fat, and hydration. When you upload to Garmin Connect, bone and muscle weight figures also pop up. However, upon close inspection, you realize that that part is just a bad gimmick (not Tanita's fault, I know), as it tabulates bone mass based on your total weight and then calculates muscle mass as weight minus fat minus bone. I didn't realize my liver and lungs were made of muscle tissue!

That you need to spend another $100 to get a display if you do not own a Garmin watch and do not want to lug your computer around every time is truly outrageous. Compared to Tanita's minimalistic LED, even Apple's philosophy seems feature-happy.

Good scale that works really well with my Garmin Forerunner 610. The measurements are uploaded automatically to my Garmin Connect account, which is awesome.
I am however disappointed with what should be the most important feature for this scale.. measuring my weight consistently. I can step on the scale 4-5 times in a row and the measured weight is consistently inconsistent. If it was only with a few grams I wouldn't care, but the difference is quite often greater than 1 kg. Should expect more from a scale that cost more than $200.

This scale is heavily promoted by both Garmin and Tanita as being an essential compliment to your training accessory kit. However, it doesn't live up to its promise without significant amounts of setup and debugging on your part.

Given that it costs as much as 10 times as a decent scale, it was a disappointing and unexpectedly time-consuming experience to set up.

It has no display on it - so you have to either buy a display as it is not included in the box, or use a PC.

It does not work with Garmin 405 devices.

The software it ships with on the included CDs (who still uses CDs to distribute software?) does not work with Macs.

If you spend some time searching around online, you will discover you can download a Mac OSX widget from Tanita.com to weigh yourself. However the download process is ridiculously overcomplicated (behind a form that asks for a "purchase number" that you won't have).

Then to weigh yourself you have to follow this process which takes me about 3 minutes:

1 Move your mac close to the scale. I don't know about you, but I keep my computer in the living room and my scale in the bathroom.
2 plug in the USB wireless connector,
3 Wake or start up your computer
4 launch widget,
5 press a button labeled, "Get Measurement",
6 quickly stand on the scale before it times out,
7. wait for it to beep three times,
8 step off the scale to see your weight on the display, which is also transmitted to a Tanita web app, but not to the Garmin Connect Web App.

Pretty ghetto vs. a normal scale:

1. Step on scale
2. See weight.

This product could be great if Tanita and Garmin could make the process as easy as that, but you still get the useful data and logging capabilities this scale can create.

I have wanted one of these for a long time. It's only drawback is no display mechanism on the unit. You can purchase one after market but it is more expensive than most scales cost just for the display.

Con- no way to know if this scale is at zero when using it.

So this is a great scale. I just bought it. It is very expensive, but the construction is really on top of this world. Very solid, nicely made, not cheap looking at all. Suggestion, even though it comes with carpet pads, use it on a hard floor. It was off by 4 pounds on carpeting (reports 4 pounds less so maybe a plus, but not really).

Great for analyzing body fat and many other measurements. Gives me a good baseline to work towards and I have a lot of work after my first read!

Little tricky to set up on a mac if you want to pair it with a PC or a Mac. There is a Mac widget to download that lets you create a profile and syncs up pretty quick with the scale.

But the best way to use this is if you have a Garmin Fitness watch or other compatible Ant +. Tanita's website will tell you which watches are compatible. I have the Forerunner 610 and it grabs 9 different measurements in seconds and transmits them to my Garmin Connect account so I can track my progress.

Very awesome scale and I am very pleased. Feel free to contact me if you need help setting it up.

The scale works fine, but the only thing accurate is the weight. All the other indicators change constantly, for instance body fat % can move 3 points in one day!

For a scale of this cost the additional measurements are not accurate and are of no use as I cannot trust them. For ample bone mass which should be a constant changes daily. Measure at the same time every day and other than weight the other measurement does not seem to be accurate.
