5.0 out of 5 stars Precise, reliable, works well.
I'm a personal trainer and agree that body fat can be tricky to measure. That said, this scale is very, very consistent. It will not necessarily match what you get on a dexa, etc. (my wife and I were only 0.5% from our caliper tests on athletic mode, which is pretty good since one caliper measurement to another can vary this much) so the goal is really to track your...

3.0 out of 5 stars Save your money if buying this scale for body fat percent.
I bought this scale because I was looking for a digital scale and also wanted to see if my body fat measurements that I have been taking with the Accu-Measure Body Fat Caliper was accurate. As a weight scale, the Tanita is excellent (and the reason I gave it as many as 3 stars) and I decided to keep it despite the body fat being off. I exercise regularly and I never get...

I'm a personal trainer and agree that body fat can be tricky to measure. That said, this scale is very, very consistent. It will not necessarily match what you get on a dexa, etc. (my wife and I were only 0.5% from our caliper tests on athletic mode, which is pretty good since one caliper measurement to another can vary this much) so the goal is really to track your body fat and weight over time. This scale excels there. Setup a spreadsheet, measure yourself at the same time of the day, preferably right after a morning shower when your feet are moist (ladies dry your hair first), and track your progress.

Easy to setup, easy to use for two people plus random guests.

The weight is dead accurate even for doing postal packages etc.

Also, looks pretty nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FOR ALL BODY TYPES, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
This scale is fantastic, the measurements and accuracy of this scale are top notch. Moreover, having the body water percentage feature allows you to really monitor the amount of body fat on you. For example, to reduce your PERCENT body fat, just drink more water and it will go lower, but if you subtract the water percent from your actual weight and body fat, u can really monitor the number of pounds of fat you have on your body.

It's very durableand all my friends who workout alot use it and are extremely satisfied. The athletic mode is very useful too because it allows for greater accuracy

5.0 out of 5 stars A good tool for tracking bodyfat changes, August 4, 2006
This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
The scale won't be as accurate as DEXA or underwater weighing, but it is sufficient to track changes in bodyfat. That is all I need to know, if my bodyfat is increasing or decreasing.

I recommend checking your bodyfat every day at the same time under the same conditions and using your weekly average to track your bodyfat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A consistent scale, March 19, 2007
By
This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
i'm absolutely obsessed with weighing myself constantly to see how running a mile or drinking a glass of water effects my weight. i was looking for a consistent scale and i finally found one. Although I believe it consistently weighs me 1 lb less than I really am, I am happy to get a consistent weigh within 0.2 lb accuracy. For example, I can stand on the scale 10 times in a row and i'll get the same weight every time within .2 pounds. The body fat and body water I don't trust to be accurage, but they are very consistent (+-.75%) which is most important to me. Overall, this scale has surpassed my expectations with it's consistent results.

5.0 out of 5 stars good features, value, simple to use, March 20, 2006

This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
The Tanita BF680W Duo Scale is very simple to use and gives very consistent readings. I've been using it to monitor my body fat in addition to my weight. The key to getting consistent readings for body fat percentage definitely seems to be consistency in time of day the measurements are taken. I always weigh myself first thing in the morning.

The scale stores height, age, and sex information for 2 different users. It is easy to program these functions. The body fat percentage indicator goes in .1 increments. This is definitely a nice feature that many of the cheaper units do not offer. This is a great, simple to use product that I would recommend for anyone interested in monitoring not just their weight but also their body fat and water percentages.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper!, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
I've had other digital scales and never been satisfied -- can't read them, they don't work on carpet, not accurate, etc. I've had this Tanita BF680W for over three months now and I can attest that the other positive reviews are correct. Here's what I like: I can read the display even with my glasses off; the scale is rock solid accurate as measured against professional models at the gym; I was skeptical about the body fat monitor, but it IS consistent even if not as accurate as other types of measurements; I can have my own preset numbers and my wife can have hers, too. Others have said the batteries last at least a year. Can't say, but no problem so far.

Here's what you might want to do: the literature says this works on carpet. Maybe -- if the wind blows in the right direction. But, I have no problems because I took an unused piece of wooden shelving and placed it under the scale so it is on a hard level surface. Between uses, I simply slide it and the scale under the clothes rack in the closet with my foot. Works great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, a must-own if you're trying to lose fat, June 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
I use the caliper method along with this, and the results are always approximately equal. This scale won't give you your exact bodyfat, but the number it gives you is pretty accurate, which you can tell just based on looking in the mirror and going on the net and looking at what different bodyfat percentages look like, and more importantly it will tell you if your bodyfat percentage is going up or down. When I'm dieting and exercising properly, the number goes down by small increments each time. When I'm stuffing myself and not going to the gym enough, the number goes up. The negative reviews are from people who probably didn't follow the procedure correctly.

The weighing scale is extremely accurate, and you should take that measurement in the morning after you've used the bathroom and before you have eaten. The body fat measurement should be taken later in the day, and you shouldn't be full or food or water.

One tip: don't use the athlete setting unless you are an actual athlete, because it'll give you far too flattering a reading. If you are an active person who goes to the gym three times a week and does weight training and cardio, that does not make you an athlete. If you play sports for a few hours five times a week, then you can probably use the athlete setting.

I exercise regularly and I never get a reading below 18% bodyfat and varies between 18% and 20% - even in athletic mode. With my $7 calipers it tells me I am about 14.8% body fat. I was recently tested in a gym and I was at around 13-14% so the cheap plastic gadget did much better. So save your money - buy a plain old digital scale and the Accu-Measure Body Fat Caliper here at Amazon and with the savings go have a nice healthy dinner!

This review is from: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water (Health and Beauty)
I tested the scale accuracy against the body fat monitor at a wellness fair and against several other scales. Using the normal setting the results were similar, about a 1% variance. But in the atheletic modethe results were way off. I workout about 5 to 6 days a week, cycling/lifting/running. It showed that I had 8.5% body fat. In the regular mode it shows about 18.5% body fat. Although I like the athletic mode results, I know that the regular mode is more realistic. I have wrote to Tanita but no response yet. My friends scale (same one) gives the same results. But overall I am satisfied with the scale. Homemedic or something like that has a scale that gives a little more information. So do your research.
