5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Accurate and Heavy Duty
I am a big guy (currently 403lbs) was 421 a few months ago and have been slowly going down each week, this scale is SO accurate, if I get on and off 4-5 times in a row down to the .2 its still solid, then when I go to the healthclub and use their $2000 professional scale it reads the same numbers as the home scale.

Again I am closer to the top limits of this scale (440...

Again I am closer to the top limits of this scale (440 top weight) yet it feels solid and doesn't flex or feel "cheap" or like it is going to break or anything.

5 different user buttons along with each of those 5 inputs having the last weight viewable for reference and a large readout and stepon plate (I wear a 14 EEEEE shoe and have no problems) make this scale worth buying at any cost.

Bill :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Functional and Accurate Scale, January 8, 2007

The scale has five buttons along the edge. You tap a button with your toe and the button number comes on the screen for a couple seconds. Then the screen goes to 0.0 on the large numbers and your previous weight on the smaller numbers below that. You step on the scale and it shows your current weight. The next time you use it, that number will show as your previous weight. It takes a couple seconds for the screen to clear and be ready for the next weighing. You can use the five buttons for five different people. Or if you want, you can use more than one button for yourself. Say, one for "morning weight" and one for "evening weight."

The scale has a large surface to stand on. More than a foot square. But it's also very thin, so cabinet doors will open over it, etc. It's very accurate. I put a 20 lb. dumbell on it and it said 20.0. Then I weighed myself while holding two 20 lb. dumbells. I weighed exactly 40.0 lbs more than when I wasn't holding the dumbells. Good enough.

This is just what I was looking for... a no nonsense, accurate scale that remembers my previous weight. I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I've ever owned, December 12, 2005

This review is from: Tanita HD351 Digital Scale with Memory Function (Health and Beauty)
This scale is very accurate (it gives the same weight as my doctor's scale...unfortunately, lol)

Because of the low profile it is easier to get onto the scale with my bad knees and the larger size (13 1/2" wide and 15" long) means that I don't have to do a balancing act while trying to weigh myself. And, unlike other scales I've owned, I don't have to stand in exactly the same place everytime to get the correct reading.

Buy this scale, you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scale!, July 15, 2004

I am a big guy and needed a scale as I am going on a diet. I was concerned this one wouldn't hold up but unless I wanted to shell out 500 dollars this was my only option. I have had the scale for two weeks and it has been great. Its accurate, digital, and it stores my weights. If you are looking for a scale but don't want to shell out a lot of money this is definitely the one I would go with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing scale, May 22, 2004
By
Steven Williams "Boogie" (fayetteville, arkansas) - See all my reviews
For people who are 300+ pounds it is very very difficult to find a scale to weigh you. Most scales off the shelf simply cannot do the job.

That's what lead me to this scale and I am amazed at the quality of it, compared to the price.

The first thing you'll notice is its craftmanship. It really is an amazing peice of hardware, made for very heavy people to use.

The second thing you'll notice is its accuracy. Even at 400+ pounds, you'll see that it is terribly terrible accurate. Even my doctors scales can shimmy up and down a bit when i stand on them at this size and this scale does not.

overall, very satisfied with this product. I expect to be using it for quite some time to come.

Be wary of Tanita and their warranty claims. The product itself was decent, and fairly accurate, however Tanita is not a company that prides itself in customer service and product support. I used my scale in a normal bathroom environment, and after just 3 months you could see evaporation underneath the screen. I don't know if a gasket had a crack in it, or what the issue might have been, but the unit couldn't withstand the normal humidity of a bathroom. In fact, the unit was a good 20 feet from any active water, like a shower and tub.

I shipped the unit in, and without even so much as a courtesy call, the "customer service manager" returned my unit with a note that my warranty claim was refused, even though I had spoken to someone before about the issue, and said it would be replaced no problem. The customer service manager was nice enough, but said that even though it was well within the boundaries of his discretion, he was going to refuse the claim, because they refuse all like claims regarding evaporation. He even admitted that it happens fairly often.

Stay away.

His recommendation? Buy another Tanita, and not place it in the bathroom. Right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best high-weight-limit home scale, January 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tanita HD351 Digital Scale with Memory Function (Health and Beauty)
I spent several days researching this online before choosing this maker & model last November, and found this unit to have a great price, great accuracy, great ease of use (no finickiness about foot placement or floor placement), and to be very economical where batteries are concerned. We've had ours for daily weigh-ins for two people for a couple of months and haven't needed new batteries yet.

What I learned about scales which try to do a BMI reading through your feet is, they are NOT accurate and they tear through batteries as often as weekly! Get this scale instead, and use the money you've saved to get a handheld BMI reader, like the Omron sold by Amazon. Yes, it's two pieces of gear instead of one -- but would you rather have two *accurate* devices which both have very good battery life, or one grossly inaccurate device which eats batteries like candy?

Also, most high-weight home scales top out at 300, 330, or 360 pounds. This Tanita model goes far beyond that, to 440 -- and still offers better accuracy, better price, and more family convenience (five users can compare current weight to last weight) than the models with the lower weight limitations. It's a steal. And no, I don't work for Tanita! :)

UPDATE: I reviewed this January, 2007. In January, 2009, the scale is still going strong on the original set of batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent scale with nice features!, June 2, 2004
By A Customer
Accurate and easy-to-read, this scale is a real help for people who can't get an accurate weight from a standard scale. It also keeps track of your previous weight, so you can follow your progress (or slip-ups!) There are controls for as many as five users, so you don't find yourself jumping from 134 to 397 overnight.

I priced other high-capcity scales, too; this one seems to be the best value by far!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product for Bigger People, April 5, 2004

I have this and it works very well. Not flimsy, very accurate, remembers the last weight of up to 5 users so you can track change. Beeps once softly when it arrives at your precise weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love My Tanita!!!, March 22, 2006
By

This review is from: Tanita HD351 Digital Scale with Memory Function (Health and Beauty)
After my old analog scale bit the dust, I then had the arduous task of shopping for its replacement. Little did I know just how difficult that would be until I went to the mall and got lost in a sea of scales to choose from. I started out with another analog scale. The needle jumped around leaving me frustrated with not knowing if I lost or gained weight. So that went back to the store a couple days later. I thought, well, maybe I just didn't spend enough money on the scale. So I purchased yet another analog scale with a heftier price tag. That turned out to be just as bad as the scale I just returned. Now I'm thinking perhaps it's time to try one of the digital scales. This time I read as many customer reviews of each product as I could find and found that to be disheartening as the reviews were pretty much a 50/50 love/hate result for most of the different scales. If I thought I was confused before, well, I was really confused now for sure. So I tried to find out who were the current biggest manufacturers of scales and found Tanita (never heard of them) to be one of the best scale manufacturers.

Tanita has a large selection of scales to choose from with different bells and whistles as well as different price ranges. But all I wanted was a straight, old-fashioned scale for weight only and I decided on the Tanita HD351 and am I ever glad I did. It's a no fuss, no muss, very dependable scale that I absolutely love and feel it was well worth the price.

I highly recommend this scale.
