5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Accurate Scale
I read the reviews on the BF679 scale. I read reviews on alot of different scales but this one had the best said about it. I have now received my new scale and it gives a whole new meaning to stepping on the scale. It seems to give me more incentive knowing my body fat is way too high along with my weight. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not So Consistant or Accurate
Many people are fooled by scales when they say it gives the same reading when the step on it several times in a row. Other than the cheapest ones, scales are designed to memorize the last reading and if the next weight measurement is anywhere close to the previous one, it will display the previous reading. This is done to fool you into thinking the scale reads...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Accurate Scale, January 26, 2004

I read the reviews on the BF679 scale. I read reviews on alot of different scales but this one had the best said about it. I have now received my new scale and it gives a whole new meaning to stepping on the scale. It seems to give me more incentive knowing my body fat is way too high along with my weight. Health becomes a bigger issue when I see the numbers on this scale. It was easy to program and instructions were easy to understand. I would recommend this scale to anyone who is losing weight or thinking of losing weight. It is wonderful and so worth the price (which I bought on sale through Amazon) I belong to Weight Watchers and there was only 2 tenths difference between this scale and the one used at my meeting weight in. Also, it registers the same weight if I would happen to step on it 3 or 4 times in a row, no jumping a pound up or down. Try it, you'll like it! Judy

I have to say, I love this scale. I wish I had bought it 7 weeks ago when I began my diet so I would know how much body fat I've lost.
This scale is very easy to operate and read. I like the accuracy to .2 pounds (instead of .5 or 1.0 you see in other digital scales), but most of all, I love the fact that I can step on it 10 times in a row and get the same reading. That alone makes it worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very accurate for checking weight. Pretty good for fat %., September 13, 2004

In the process of owning this scale (Tanita BF679), I have lost about 30 pounds. My old scale (not digital) was inaccurate. It would show a different weight everytime I got on. Also, it wasn't even close to my gym's accurate scale. This Tanita is as accurate as my gym's scale. I weigh myself everyday.

Overall, I am very happy with the accurateness of the scale. The fat monitor is accurate. I would estimate that it is within 2% of actual. If you want a fat monitor that is within 1% of accuracy, go with the Tanita BF 578 ($99). This was recommended by Men's Health magazine and they said that it was within 1% of their water dunk tank results. Water dunk tanks are the most accurate measurement for fat. Water dunk tanks disregard the water in your body. In comparison, the Tanita and all other body fat monitors use electricity and water in your body to calculate fat. Therefore, if you drink lots of water before getting on the scale, you will get a lower fat percentage. That's why the instructions call for you to weigh yourself for fat 3 hours after waking up and after having a meal. (For consistency).

Keep in mind that it will cost more than twice as much to get that extra 1% accuracy with the Tanita BF 578 ($99). I don't need super exact fat percentages, just a trend. I've lost about 7.6% body fat.

The battery (included) has lasted four months without problems. This is the best scale I have owned and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I would definitely recommend this product, Tanita BF679, to any dieter needing an accurate way to check their weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes getting on the scale a bit less depressing, August 28, 2004

This review is from: Tanita Body Fat Monitor 2.25 Inchdisplay Replaces Tbf621
I have tried and returned several scales, and read reviews on countless more. I am happiest with this Tanita for several reasons.

1) The memory -- it got very tedious very quickly having to enter my age, sex, and height right before I stepped on the scale every day.

2) The accuracy -- I can step on the scale 5 times in a row and get the same readout.

3) The precision -- I love that I can tell if I've lost 2 tenths of a pound. My previous scale weight in 1/2 pounds increments, and often it took a week or two before I noticed a difference. (I lose weight slowly)

4) The toe kick "on" button -- very easy to do even if it's before your morning coffee.

5) The instruction manual -- Yes, I'm someone who reads them cover to cover. It's not necessary, and I know most people don't, but I did appreciate that the manual explained how the body fat calculator worked and the best times and ways to use it.

*** Update Nov 2010 ***

Still using my scale every day, and it's still working perfectly. I've changed the batteries once. Still highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY way to measure body fat, April 7, 2005

I am in the military, and because of that, we have to be within certain body fat standards. I've been taped many times, sometimes accurately and sometimes not. I've had the calipers used on me, and I've used the calipers at home. Both ways yield somewhat variable results, not to mention that they are very time consuming. This scale has been the only thing that is right-on and consistent every time with body fat and weight. Of course, you need to use it at the same time every day to get the most accurate results, but yes, it's wonderful. After having used it for over a year, I couldn't even begin to imagine doing any kind of fitness/diet program without it. If they charged double for this scale, I'd pay it without question, it's that good. I agree that there are cheaper ways out there to measure body fat, but none are nearly as accurate, consistent, convenient, or as fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further then a Tanita..., April 12, 2004
This review is from: Tanita Body Fat Monitor 2.25 Inchdisplay Replaces Tbf621
This is just an absolutely wonderful scale. It is always the same every single time I hop on it, unlike my other digital scales I have had in the past. When you are losing weight, it is very encouraging to see a .2 lb loss which is one of the features of this scale. I kinda wonder about the BF% though but it gets close and doesn't vary much. I have no complaints at all with this scale. The memory feature for the the body fat for 2 people is a must have. I actually am glad you can't see your last weigh in on this scale because if you are like most, you don't want just anyone going in your bathroom and finding out your exact weight! Not to mention my own husband! Worth it's money...

I bought this scale, largely because of reviews (BF679, Ultimate 2001, Duo 2002) Now, its my turn to rave. One word: memory. The Ultimate requires programming the gender, height, and age each use! The Duo 2002 doesn't remember previous readings or display the fitness rating. For more info, you can download maunals at the Tanita website. They also have a good comparison page. For 5 more bucks, BF679 remembers body stats, previous readings, displays fitness info with extra large readout. Use is simple. Kick one of the side mounted buttons with your toe, wait for a beep and climb on. In a few seconds, hear a beep (weight) then two beeps (Fat). Displays both plus a fitness indication. Press the up arrow button for previous readings. Memory for 2, plus a guest or weight only. Will measure Lb, Kg or Stones. Works like a charm. 10 year warranty. If you are an athelete or a family, spend some more, but stay with Tanita.
My old scale would give me "err" 3 or more times in a row if I didn't hold still. Now you buy!

I've used the Ultimate Tanita Scale for about a year now and then I purchased the Tanita Bf-679 duo scale. This scale recalls the weight and body fat % from last weigh in. I tested the accuracy of the scales together and found that the Ultimate Tanita Scale was off by 3%. It's also great for couples who are trying to watch their weight or trying to lose weight.

I got this scale to help with my weight loss. The old cheapie bathroom scale we had would give you a different reading (off 2-4 pounds every time) every time you stepped on it. This scale gives you the same readout each time. I even use it to weigh items I'm going to mail with the guest mode. With .2 pound increments, this is quite accurate as well. I love this scale. The metal finish looks great and it sure is solidly built. Highly recommended.

Received my scale today. I took the scale out of the box, put in the batteries, programed it. It took less than a minute to figure out how to program it and complete the process. I love the fact that it calibrates the body fat percentage. I got on & off at least 5 times and each time it registered the same weight, also the same with my husband. Unlike my old digital scale - I can gain & loose 5 lbs within 20 seconds! Everytime I got on that one I could'nt even guess what my weight would be. I only wish I would have gotten this one 31 lbs ago when I started my diet. Now that I'm at goal weight this scale will help keep me right on target.
