3.0 out of 5 stars If your a devout fan buy it
This album is good, very good at times. But when original lead singer Deeder left two albums ago it really did hurt this group. Good news is they are slowly pulling themselves out of it. If your a fan you should be happy, but be aware, on this disc the boys head off a little closer to Transglobal Underground territory. The good news there is that it is similar to...

On Tank, Asian Dub Foundation delivers the goods once again. From the fiery opening foot-stomper of "Flyover" to the closing organic lush of "Melody 7", ADF comes correct and lays down an album worthy of multiple repeat listenings. Without falling into cliched sounds and rhythms, ADF has stayed true to form while also showing something new on several tracks. The track "Hope" showcases a rollicking bassline, mated with vocals that would remind one of Horace Andy, and all of this on top of a haunting background melody. For those who love the inner city breakbeat music, I highly recommend this album.

And for the reviewer who felt that the band's name was "misleading", I would suggest spending time with this group's back catalog.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 and half stars?? hakan orkan "anti-presido"-from Turkey, March 29, 2005

It is impossible to say that album is not good (of course this is my personal idea), it is awesome!! Lyrics are smarter than their previous releases, their music is more catchy and fast-tempo than before. When you listen the whole album, you are forced to think about Mr. PRESIDENT (you know who is he).. This album is worth to listen many many times like their all stuff. Don't miss this intelligent album..

3.0 out of 5 stars If your a devout fan buy it, April 2, 2005

This album is good, very good at times. But when original lead singer Deeder left two albums ago it really did hurt this group. Good news is they are slowly pulling themselves out of it. If your a fan you should be happy, but be aware, on this disc the boys head off a little closer to Transglobal Underground territory. The good news there is that it is similar to older TGU than newer TGU offerings. The last two ADF albums just aren't fully realized like the Community Music album was and certainly not as punk or aggressive. There are only hints of dub anymore and much more rootsyness. Flyover and Roundup are quality old style ADF songs but track two slows the tempo of the disc after the opener(Flyover) badly, and it takes some time to regain. ADF needs to go back to their roots on their next venture and hire the production team of Blag Dahlia and Eric Valentine to bless the project with their redhot talents.
PS- to the reviewer who was upset that it wasn't a dub album, congrats for being enough of a music fan to purchase an album simply based on the name and cover. I love blind pulls as I call them and thats how I found ADF oh so many years ago. My reaction was the exact same as yours but now I'm a big fan.

it sceems that some of you are hatters and dont really feel that this album is as good as it really is. yess they picked up a new singer and he is a jammaican reggae singer but he adds a tremendious flava to this sound pool and lost a member but still strive. asian combines elements from their past such as faster beats and furious vocals/lyrics and present with songs like round up, warring dhol, tommorow begins today and melody7 adding more slowed downbeats and dub reggae flava on this. The lyrics are at an all time extreme due to the war in iraq and are verry much present here, in all songs especially oil not at all trying to mask or confuse the meaning. they worked verry hard to make the vocals more clear and understandable and they have susceeded verry well for how fast they are. the album isnt as dub flavored are their last outing probably due to not having adrian sherwood's dub tastic production. the beats are much faster but not kaotic and much more variety and less repotition than older workz. but round up is an all out dub explosion that will bring you back for more instantelly, and tommorow begins today is their most actual roots dub reggae song. so thats why im confussed why this isnt appriciated by more of their staple fans and almost abandoned all their uk fans where they live. i am more of a dub electronic fan and not so much into even vocals or fast paced music but the combination on this album is amazing, not as good as enemy of the enemy but extremelly close. they also installed an incredible thing on the disc called opendisc which when placed in your computer will alow you to submit email adress and acess you to a page on the internet where you can watch the video for flyover which is awesome and interviews, live clips, all the bonus songs from the canadian bonus edition of enemy of enemy which is amzing remix, and all the songs on the album tank instrumetal versions
and to address the coment on the first reviewer's quote this album is like buying a dub syndicate album and getting a heavy metal album, wow. that is the stupidest thing i ever heard what were you expecting when you saw the name asian dub foundation and their previous work. this is no roots dub but i figured that was pretty clear. but these guys do use the fundamental elements of dub which is drum and bass and dubbling up and to dub onto trackz. Another staple is using processors and shape shifting rythm and beat and electronic sounds such as synth and programmin. all are featured here. hense asian dub

This is easily my favorite ADF record yet. It's beats are faster, more clever, and incredibly tight from beginning to end. This isn't the same Asian Dub Foundation from before. This album is more aggressive, passionate, and basically a big F U to the world leaders. BUY IT.

I have to say, if you're a fan of ADF avoid being disappointed.

They've lost their soul. ADF should consider dropping Asian since all I hear is the usual jungle, dub and rasta with some metal guitars.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT DUB, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Tank (Audio CD)
this is fast paced techno with lots of vocals and mediteranean, asian, and reggae influences. not what i expect from their title. its like buying "dub syndicate" and getting heavy metal. preview at least 1 of the songs before buying as they are all very similar, and similarly paced. song 8 take back the power is their best.. very far from dub. they should get zero stars for having such a misrepresentative name
