The 712th Tank Battalion landed in Normandy on June 28, 1944, and spent 311 days in combat. Aaron Elson, whose father served with the battalion, began preserving the stories of its veterans after attending a reunion in 1987. These interviews, with six veterans on 11 CDs, give a powerful picture of life in combat as a tanker during World War II, as well as the veterans' lives before and after the war.

These interviews with World War II veterans give a glimpse into what the reality of a being a tank driver was really like. Aaron Elson, whose father served with the 712th Tank Battalion in World War II, attended a reunion of the outfit in 1987. He returned with a tape recorder two years later, and has been preserving the stories of its veterans ever since. He also includes clips about what the Depression was really like, the ups and downs of living through that era, etc.
