I just saw these guys again, opening for the F4cking Champs (Again) and was more impressed than the last time. THey just really rock!

This album is great. Is it ground breaking? Hell-no! But is it straight up in your face rock and everloving roll? Absolutely. Looks like Amazon got the track order mixed up, but the 2nd song AM/FM Shoes is the highlight of the album. Tanning Salon is real good, too.

Plus, these guys are from Oakland... Got to love that. For some reason, I guess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Rock Masterpiece, November 29, 2003

There is no better era for rock than that of the 70's and I think that these guys would agree with that. Not to say that they are just some kind of a throw back or are imitators of such bands as the Allman Brothers, Ted Nugent, or Led Zeppelin but they are definitely on the same wavelength. Me and a bro went and saw these guys at a newly refurnished dive amongst a crowd of maybe 30 people. Probably a bummer for the band but they played so righteously there on a two foot high stage 7 feet from the bar. These guys have real passion and personality it can be heard on such songs as 'Tanning Salon' and 'Am/Fm Shoes.' Both of the guitar players are geniuses they were trading off solos back and forth and came together for a dual onslaught height of each song. The lyrics are funny and harken to imagery and style that is outdated by about thirty years but the music is mastery. These guys aren't a bunch of hipsters striving to become the next Rolling Stones, these guys are just sincerely having a good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unpretensious Power Riff Boogie Symphony, May 7, 2001

Saw Drunk Horse open for The Fucking Champs in Richmond, VA and was wowed by their uniqueness and talent. I actually went to see The Champs, but came away raving about Drunk Horse. This cd (although both of their cds are fantastic) really showcases all the wild chords, time changes, breaks, and tangents these guys launch into. Their music is a synthesis of electric power chord rhythms and strange single note leads unlike anyone else. I can hear influences (Blue Cheer and Mudhoney come to mind right away) but there sound is not derivative. They drive, rock, and soar through the sonic wavelengths like nobody else. There is truly not a bad track on the whole cd. Every song, hell, just about every note, is an experience. I just wish there were other bands out there as talented, entertaining, and inventive as Drunk Horse.

4.0 out of 5 stars tasty treat, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Tanning Salon / Biblical Proportions (Audio CD)
i was quite pleasently surprised when i saw Drunk Horse opening up for the F-ing Champs. they carry themselves with that devil-may-care rock and roll blues boogie woogie spirit, but their songs have nice touches of prog rock and some flourishes of jazz. maybe a more heavy version of Colosseum is a good reference point? Tanning Salon/Biblical Proportions a cool album that stands many repeated listens and has holds up well over time. i have not kept up with this band and i have yet to hear any album previous or after this one, so i hope they are still going strong.
