4.0 out of 5 stars Classic, yet contemporary - and surprisingly good!
Fans of 1960's era Europop chanteuse - Francoise Hardy - will find much to be surprised and delighted by with 'Tant de Belles Choses' a contemporary (2004) album that plays hallmark to all of Hardy's strengths and charms while managing to sound positively fresh, relevant and certain to appeal to the post-millennium iPod set with absolutely no previous exposure to Hardy's...

3.0 out of 5 stars One hit, the rest is background music
I adore Françoise Hardy's earlier work and had high expectations after hearing the title track on the "Chanson" program broadcast daily on Radio Canada's Espace Musique channel. The title track is wonderful. The rest of the CD is so "ghostly" and "ephemeral" that it fades into the background. That isn't necessarily a bad thing if that is what you are looking for, but I...

Fans of 1960's era Europop chanteuse - Francoise Hardy - will find much to be surprised and delighted by with 'Tant de Belles Choses' a contemporary (2004) album that plays hallmark to all of Hardy's strengths and charms while managing to sound positively fresh, relevant and certain to appeal to the post-millennium iPod set with absolutely no previous exposure to Hardy's works.

While some tracks retain the classic 60's era Chanson sound (À L'ombre De La Lune' - 'Soir De Gala' - 'Grand Hotel'), the majority of the album uses modern studio production and instrumentation (eg - 'Jardinier Bénévole' - 'Sur Quel Volcan?' - 'Un Air De Guitare') that will easily fool listeners if you tell them that these are tracks by such melodic, atmospheric artists such as Air or Ivy. 'Tant de Belles Choses' is incredibly moody and melodic. Perfect rainy day music to deliciously gloom over, yet fantastically sexy all the way through thanks to Hardy's vocal magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Francoise Hardy's voice is an instrument for her soul's expression, July 5, 2007

I just heard "Tant de belles choses " and "So many things" on her website and immediately ordered this CD.

Hearing her music literally puts my mind into creative mode. She has the ability to enable the listener to open their hearts and be who they are,to do what they are here on Earth to do.

Francoise Hardy has always drawn people to her; there is more going on here than looks or ability to carry a tune. She is an old and powerful soul here to help others using her voice.

I can't wait to receive my new CD.

Aloha from a rustic studio in Kailua,Hawaii

5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best albums, May 4, 2008
This review is from: Tant De Belles Choses (Audio CD)
After La Question, Comment te Dire Adieu, Soleil and Message Personnel, over 30 years went by before Francoise Hardy released an album that could stand side by side with those Hardy classics. This is that album. The title track written for two of her friends that were gravely ill is hauntingly beautiful, with some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. Francoise Hardy's voice is still exquisite.

Interesting to note that this album has had some pretty decent commercial success.
