5.0 out of 5 stars One of the more unique musical styles I've encountered
Ancient and new music combine to form a wonderful listening experience. I saw them in person and their music was at once energetic and soothing. This CD covers those two spectrums as these South American Indians perform on their native instruments. Quichua Mashis have done some excellent CD's of Andean music, but this is NOT one of them -- too much Latin pop. If you are looking for Latin pop I guess it's ok, but I think half of it stinks.

Thats' what makes this CD so unique and enjoyable, the newness of the sound to our ears of this ancient music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good music, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Tantanacui (Audio CD)
I saw this group performing on the street in Seattle and stopped to listen and couldn't leave without buying this CD so I could take this great music with me. The music is a mixture of Andean (recall the woodwinds from El Condor Pasa on the Simon and Garfunkel album?) with Latin and an occasional Celtic flavor. If these appeal to you, you'll enjoy this CD. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wanted more of that beautiful, melancholy Andean woodwind sound, but maybe that would have been too much of a good thing. Having said that, this is very happy music performed by talented musicians that will at times move you with its soulfulness. Highly recommended.

Excellent music. Mood enhancing. Superior for driving, especially at high volume and this from a Stones fan. This is the band's seventh compact disc. I've had the fortune of seeing them play live two different times, both intense. Give them a try.

This is the best CD we have listened to in a long time. No bad lyrics, just soothing flutes and string instruments. Cool drink, sit back and relax the world away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their music expresses themselves, January 21, 2003

There is a bit of "Latin" music in the CD but I cannot judge since I have never been to their part of the world. I was fortunate to see them in Anacortes, WA and was so impressed in their music speaks for themselves and their culture. A wonderful change from most Latin American artists...not as commercialized. It is a blend of just enough modern tempo with the native music.
Good to the ear, with the newspaper and coffee, driving or just relaxing at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tantanacui - Lively and Spirited, July 22, 2002

I've had the opportunity to see Quichua Mashis twice. I found their music pleasant and refreshing. What struck me most was how the band members enjoyed putting on their show. They seemed to have as much fun playing their music as those of us in the audience did listening to it. If you're looking for fun, yet relaxing music, Tantanacui is the listener's choice. I know you'll enjoy it.
