5.0 out of 5 stars Arthur Brown will make a 'Lover' out of you!, November 30, 2000

Okay, finally a release for the new age...Arthur Brown has emerged with a fresh, modern record that harkens back to a more melodic time and imaginative era. He has grown, he has aged, but his themes, his lyrics and his vocals are like a fine wine; they simply get better with age and time.

What astonishes me the most with this new release is that he chose the acoustic route, with no more than simply acoustic guitar and cello on some tracks. But don't think for one second that it's empty or lacking in character. Each tune tells a story, one of learned wisdom and changing times.

So, will all the Crazy World and Kingdom Come fans love this release? Well, if you are expecting wild psychedelia or manic progressive rock, then the answer is, probably not. Arthur however has a wonderfully sung remake of 'Love Is A Spirit' (from the self-titled Kingdom Come release) and the one track with full band and horns is a new take on the classic "Fire" where Arthur is no less manic, though I truly long for Vincent Crane.

"All The Bells", "Circle Dance", "Swimfish" and "Healing Sound" are all modern gems, with minimal instrumentation but gloriously flowing melody and top-notch performance. AB and the band also give a nod to neo-90s Euro-beat with the cut "Soul Sensation" which is actually quite infectious. And don't think you'll miss out on his classic wailing and screeching..It's all in there, baby...

What else can I say...Am I a fan? ABSOLUTELY. Can Arthur do no wrong? Well, not in my book - it's sheer brilliance always. But if you appreciate the migrations that one may take to find a new life, a new direction but still maintain an original and consistent purity, I think you'll find it in this very well done, very earthy, very ethereal, very ARTHUR BROWN release. (jl)

and as always, a mastering note:: FAB Recording, plain and simple. Brilliant stereo imaging, crisp vocals, wonderfully warm cello. High bit resolution was definitely used, and it shows. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the Best recording of all Time!, February 4, 2009

They say that the psychedelic period started in 1967 with the Beatles "Sgt. Peppers"...but Arthur was way ahead for his time! In 1966 releasing "Crazy World" and gaining 2 hits from that album was just a start..the real thing was his live shows where he wore makeup and would come to the stage from guide wires above on flames! Without Arthur bringing theatrics to the stage, artist like Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Marilyn Manson would have had no roadmap. All of his recordings were also "concept" recordings making Sgt. Peppers not the first. After spending too much time in Austin Tx, painting houses it is great to see Arthur back in the groove again. He very well may be the BEST male vocalist of all time; certainly he has the most expansive range of any male singer I have ever heard. Now that I have this recording the more I listen to it the more I "get it". The word "Tantric" has it's origins as the word used to describe the main thread on the loom. The thread to which all is tied. The begining and the end. The knowledge of life that is passed down from generation to generation though the ages as described by the Buddist. No this is not a prog rock recording as most of his others but you can not classify this recording as it contains all types of music. Great cello, banjo, slide guitar, and hand drums will be found in these gems. The recording is however all about the lyric. It requires you to listen deeply and to contemplate it's meaning. The symbolism is mind blowing! It touches on all aspecs of LOVE from the sublime to the absurd. It is beautiful music written by a beautiful soul. Thank you Arthur, you have touched me deeply and I hope all reading this will give this great piece of music a try.

I FIRST HEARD THIS IN SCHOOL WHEN A REALLY COOL TEACHER BROUGHT IT IN AND ASKED US TO WRITE A STORY ON WHAT WE THOUGHT "FIRE" WAS ABOUT. TALK ABOUT EXPANDING YOUR MIND! AND WE WEREN'T EVEN SURE WHAT THAT WAS YET! THEN WE HEARD THE REST OF THE ALBUM...IT 'S ABSOLUTELY GREAT! BUY THIS EXPERIENCE AND YOU'LL BE PLEASED I'M SURE!!!
