Tanya's best of the nineties,
By
This review is from: Tanya Tucker - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Although Tanya signed for Capitol in 1986 and had many classic hits, this particular compilation focuses almost entirely on her nineties music. Tanya's first Greatest Hits for Capitol appeared in 1989 and the only track from that which is included here is My arms stay open all night. The next compilation was Greatest Hits 1990-1992. All ten tracks from that set are included here. So, if you want Daddy and home, Strong enough to bend, Love me like you used to, Just another love, I'll come back as another woman, If it don't come easy, I won't take less than your love, One love at a time and It's only over for you, buy that first Capitol Greatest Hits. There is one previously unissued track for Tanya's long-standing fans (like me), the opening Black water bayou. To me, that alone is worth the price. The other tracks are all from the nineties, mostly after 1992. You can't fit all Tanya's Capitol hits on a single CD, but if you buy this and that first Greatest hits, you'll have all the essentials.

Tanya Tucker's smokey voice and great song selection have made her one of the most successful and admired women in country music -- she's had a total of 65 country chart hits, including ten #1s. She is a true original, and makes some of the most potent music around. This collection picks up with her hits from 1990 (My Arms Stay Open All Night) right through her last top 10 hit of the 90's (Little Things). During that time, Tanya hit the country charts a total of 21 times, and this collection contains 16 of those songs, plus two wonderful non-chart-hits (Right About Now and I'll Take Today), one old hit (Delta Dawn from 1972) and one never-before-released song, the fantastic Black Water Bayou. So, overall a good collection of her work from the last decade. But a couple of quibbles that make this a 4-star collection instead of a 5-star collection for me: First, that they didn't include some of her other chart hits from the same time period (including You Just Watch Me and Between the Two of Them), but opted instead to include a couple of non-hits. Second, that they seemed to just tack on Delta Dawn on the end -- I love that song a lot, but since this collection is about her 90's hits, it seems a bit out of place. Third, the packaging seems minimal and hurried, just the barest of information (they don't even mention anywhere that T. Graham Brown is the duet partner on Don't Go Out -- a big ommission), and the photos of her are taken from her last album, Complicated. And fourth, that nearly all of these songs have been released on her last couple of compilations of hits. But, having said all that, this is still a fantastic collection from one of the most fascinating and expressive voices in country music. I, for one, can't wait to see what Tanya does next!

I bought this CD because of "Its a Little too Late". Tanya's distinct voice and awesome lyrics drew me to the song. Even though I bought this CD for one song in the beginning, I have to say that this CD is a big suprise because I love every song. Usually you get those albums that you skip over songs but not this one! I own 60+ country albums and this one is one of the top 5 that I am always playing. Tanya has the old country sound... none of the pop stuff played today. Some songs are up-beat, but all have great lyrics. Tanya will get your dancing and singing along. A few of my favorites are: "Walking Shoes", Down to my Last Teardrop", "Tell me about it", "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane", Hangin' In," It's a Little too late", "If your heart Ain't busy tonight", & "Delta Dawn". I'd recomend this CD to anyone who loves the REAL country sound!

After orchestrating a dramatic comeback in the mid to late eighties, Tanya Tucker went on to spin off hit after hit single through the mid-nineties. Possessing one of the more distinctive voices in country, her singles were always right on, despite the fact that her studio albums often had an uneven feel to them, so this package is the perfect vehicle for all of the best from said albums. Almost everything here was a major radio hit, and deservedly so--Tucker has a strong knack for catchy, addictive singles, and they are in abundance here. Personal favorites--'Down To My Last Teardrop', 'Two Sparrows In A Hurricane','My Arms Stay Open All Night', and 'We Don't Have To Do This'. A must for any country fan who miss the days when country wasn't all about pop.

This collection of Tanya's hits is a great buy for the fan. There's 20 tunes here, running for 1 hr and 8 minutes. The material on this disc is unmistakebly country, with force and attitude. Nobody can acuse Tanya of being fluffy. This is serious music. Tany's rough voice is perfect for the tough songs. My favorite tune on here is Some Kind of Trouble - great beat and great storytelling.

Tanya Tucker marrived at Capitol Records in 1986. By then, it had been five years since her last big hit at MCA and her peak recording years appeared to be long behind her. Yet hooked up with Jerry Crutchfield (one of her many producers at MCA), Tucker immediately hit the top of the charts with a pair of Paul Davis-written tunes dealing with rocky relationships: "One Love At A Time" and "Just Another Love." Her voice was now stronger than ever, and the consistently first-rate material Crutchfield assembled over the past decade allowed Tucker to demonstrate her full versatility, be it rowdy toetappers ("If It Don't Come Easy," "Down To My Last Teardrop"), moving ballads ("Two Sparrows In A Hurricane," "Soon"), bluesy scorchers ("You Just Watch Me ," "Some Kind Of Trouble,") or defiant rockabilly ("Walking Shoes," "It's A Little Too Late"). After one more top ten hit "Little Things" in 1997, Tucker left Capitol, feeling she wasn't getting adequate promotion at the Garth-obsessed label (she was right). Unfortunately, Tucker has not been signed to a label since then. If you don't own any other Tucker retrospectives, this is the place to start with 20 tracks far surpassing other Tucker best-ofs.

This is the sixth official greatest hits collection of Tanya Tucker's career and it is a great one. Included are all her hits from 1990 through 1997 and a few added bonuses. And at this price for 20 songs.. well it is a doozy of a bargain. The songs that kept her name in the forefront of the country revolution of the early 1990's are all here. The wonderful tracks we all enjoyed. Monster hits like "Two Sparrows In A Hurricane",a beautiful ode to eternal love and devotion and a huge request at weddings, " Down To My Last Teardrop", a feisty, sassy, in your face, ain't gonna take it anymore, getting over a heartbreak anthem. A song that many call a great attitude booster when you are finally feeling the last pangs of a heartache. " Some Kind of Trouble" a fan mainstay, bluesy and wonderful. Then comes "Walking Shoes", another goodbye we are through toe tapper, and others. Her wonderful duet with T Graham Brown, Don't Go Out.Also included are songs that hit the top of the charts after her Greatest Hits 1990-1992 collection. Such as the blistering team of Tucker and Delbert McClinton on the huge hit Tell Me About It. The list of great songs pours on with "Soon" a runaway hit in 1994 about a young lady's involvement with a married man and her revenge, followed by "We Don't Have To Do This", then the playful sing-a-long of ,"Hangin' In". "Little Things" from 1997's scrumptious Complicated CD is next and that is a beaut of a song. Then the hidden bonuses of songs never released as actual singles but rather are some of the hidden gems that populate all of Tanya's albums. The honest openess of I'll Take Today and one of the sexiest country songs ever "Right About Now" a sizzling, suggestive work of art. The CD ends appropriately like a Tucker concert with Delta Dawn. All fans of country music will want to add this CD to their collection for hours of listening pleasure. And for those of us who own all of Tanya's music, the label decided to feature as the first track a never released song that never made it to an album or CD. And as a connossieur of this lady's music I have to confess they made a great choice with Black Water Bayou. Tanya takes us into the Cajun Bayou with this haunting track. GORGEOUS! The lady has a WINNER here with this collection, y'all.
