One of Tanya's best!,
By
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
Tanya Tucker is a country music icon. I'm thrilled to hear her voice coming across the airwaves after five long years. Tanya's 31st recording proves she's still at the top of her game. When she belts out a song she puts all the new talent to shame. "Old Weakness Coming On Strong" is a cross between Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis and Tanya tears is apart like only she can. On "Oh What A Love" and "We Had It All" she conveys the anguish the writers intended the listener to hear. "A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be" is a true Tanya song and you can tell she enjoys singing it. "I Still Hear Your Voice" is a catchy number that will make you laugh and you won't be able to get it out of your head. By far, "Borrowed Wings" is the best song on the cd and one of Tanya's finest recordings ever. It is a moving ballad and Tanya nails it. All in all, this is one of her best cd's. Everyone should have her classic material from the 70's & 80's, but there are three cd's from the 90's that all Tanya fans MUST have: Without You What Do I Do With Me, Can't Run From Yourself and Complicated.

One of Tanya's best albums ever,
By
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
After the release of Tanya Tucker's underperforming album Complicated in 1988, she left Capitol Records, slapping them with a lawsuit siting inadequate promotion of product. Recently, though, Tucker returned with the self-titled Tanya, on her own label Tuckertime (distributed by Capitol as part of her settlement agreement). Tanya is the most delightful surprise of the past year and Tucker's second best album ever (after 1991's diverse What Do I Do With Me). It's all about fractured love. The footstomping "Old Weakness (Coming On Strong)" and "I Still Hear Your Voice" find Tucker raspily pining for a lost love (never, however, looking for pity). On the ballads, a wearier, wiser Tucker infuses each number with heightened emotion (led by the Vince Gill-backed ode of fading love, "Borrowed Wings"). Her own composition "Should'a Thought About That" reminds us that no one in country does haunting better than Tanya. Nobody sounds like her either, which makes this album's engaging hit single "A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be" all the more welcome at bland country radio. Hopefully, it won't be another five years until the next new Tanya Tucker album.

What is country radio's problem with Tanya Tucker music?,
By Danny Leonhardt (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
Tanya is now showing us why she is a living legend. Its a shame that the country music industry and country radio have overlooked her so many times over. This is one of the best, if not the best, albums of Tanya's career and radio is not doing its part to make the first single "A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be" a major hit. My only hope is that more songs from the album will be released as singles, especially the amazing "Borrowed Wings." It would be a great day in country radio to hear that song in heavy rotation and Tanya performing it on major award shows. Her voice is full of emotion and is always real and raw. Tanya, you are the best country-rocker around and it is time that you were given your due!

Solid Album,

This is Tanya's first album since 1997's COMPLICATED, this is definately one of her stronger sets and definately a return to form. She covers two Patty Loveless songs (from Patty's WHEN FALLEN ANGELS FLY album), "Over My Shoulder" and "Old Weakness (Coming On Strong)", she definately does them justice and gives them her own flavor. The album's first single is the uptempo "A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be", definately a highlight. One of the set's best track is the uptempo country song "I Can Live Without You (But Not Very Long)", check that one out for sure. She shines on ballads, which have always been her forte, on songs like "I Still Hear Your Love", and "We Had It All". This is also on Tanya's own label called Tuckertime Records. Overall a solid collection, good for old fans or new of Tucker. Check it out.

Tanya Still Outshines The Rest!,
By Stephen Anthony (Wilton Manors, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
In today's country music world of "cookie-cutter", sound- alikes, Tanya's distinctive voice still shines! It has been far too long (5yrs) since this country diva has released new material and the wait was worth it. With her fiance, Jerry Laseter lending his song writing skill and Tanya's raspy growl, this CD is one of her best, most personal ever. The single, A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be, deserves to be a top 10 hit! With the help of Vince Gill On Borrowed Wings, She flies! Although most of the songs are slower ballads, the opener, Old Weakness (Coming On Strong) gets things rolling with a great beat. I Still Hear Your Voice reminds me of some of her past hits. One of my favorites is I Can Live Without You(But Not Very Long). This one shows off her unique vocal styling. All twelve tracks are Super and they will leave you wanting more. Buy this one..It's a MUST HAVE!!

She's Back!,

Tanya Tucker Fans will delight in this new CD. It has been over 5 years, but well worth the wait. Tanya has never sounded better. The album starts off with a rocking tune which gets you hooked. The new single, A Memory, Like I'm going to be, is a great single. Tanya proves time and again that she is a force to be reckoned with. LeAnn, Faith, and Shaina all owe Tanya thanks for paving the way for female country singers to be able to rock out. Cool to see that this release is on her own Label, Tucker Time, and to see Tanya has taken on the role as an executive producer. You can really tell she has taken ownership of this CD. Tanya Tucker Fans will love it. If you haven't given Tanya a try, start with this CD. You will love it.

TANYA'S MASTERPIECE! SELF TITLED FITS PERFECTLY!,
By David (Davis, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Why this woman is not on the top of the charts is a travesty I will never understand! On her 31st album, Tanya creates one of her most diverse and most ambitious works to date! From the first track, the rocking....OLD WEAKNESS COMING ON STRONG (also on Patty Loveless' WHEN FALLEN ANGELS FLY) to the introspective and beautiful OVER MY SHOULDER....to the fun and first single A MEMORY LIKE I'M GONNA BE....every track is a testimonial to having the faith to make it through....her voice has never sounded better. At one part, gritty....another, emotional...another just having fun....TANYA PROVES again why she is a force to be reckoned with! GO BUY THIS ALBUM AND GET HER BACK ON TOP!! YOU ROCK TANYA!!

Miss T rocks it!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
I bought this cd after buying 2 concert dvds of Tanya's, which I also recommend. She's a spirited performer with an immense back catalog of great tunes. Good production and vocals, excellent songwriting. She really is the best country singer out there today. Wish she'd play shows in NYC more. "Old Weakness" sounds like a Rolling Stones song and Miss T works it.

Texas Tornado Returns,
This review is from: Tanya (Audio CD)
I love me my Miss TT - The Texas Tornado if you will (and I know you will). This was her first album in 5 years and actually her last album of new material since, but it's worth the listen for sure. After a huge, huge comeback in 1986, Tanya spent almost 8 years charting hit and after hit then as the OTHERS moved in (i.e. Faith, Shania etc.) Tanya seemed to once again fall out of favor, her record company changed hands, forced her to hire a new producer and made her release an album that just wasn't very good, she sued for lack of promotion and they gave her her very own subsidary label and executive producer control hence bringing about this album of 12 perfectly suited country numbres for her. Though she doesn't write much (about 2 songs her entire career) Tanya has the ability to hire really, really good songwriters; plus the beeatch could sing the phone book and chew it up without any problem; but this album has some of her best - the bitchy "Shoulda Thought About That" (she co-wrote), the sad and touching "We Had It All" (back when we had nothing at all), and the lead off single "A Memory Like I'm Gonna Be" (that dream you're chasing is only a high heeled illusion/ but you'll never get over a memory like i'm gonna be), Tanya has always impressed me with her voice, and I love everything she has ever done, but this is as a whole album probably one of her best. Incidentally, while watching all 26 episodes of Tuckerville this past year, Tanya was in the studio in a few episodes and it was really amazing to watch - she'd walk in completely unprepared (she runs on what is called 'tuckertime' which is essentially 2 hours behind real time), will rehearse a lyric and leave you wondering, "oh my gawd, she's lost it, she can't sing" and then in two minutes, she will return to the mike and rip the stuff up... now that's talent.
