A Rare Book of Ancient Chinese Literature,
By A Customer
This review is from: Taoist Tales (A Meridian Classic) (Mass Market Paperback)
A fine book of rare tales from ancient China. The stories of Pu Sung Ling collected from traditional folktales makes him unique in Chinese literature; a writer who speaks to the average Chinese in a literate voice without the rigidity and standardized language of traditional "exam" Chinese. Until Pu Sung Ling literature could not be written or published by any except those who passed the Emperor's exams required of the educated class. His tales are a heritage from ancient China that would probably of been lost except for him. A book well worth reading for any one interested in Asian literature or folktales.
