This review is from: The Taoist Ways of Healing: The Chinese Art of Pa Chin Hsien (Paperback)
I bought this book (
The Taoist Ways of Healing: The Chinese Art of Pa Chin Hsien)second-hand as it is still out of print, according to Seahorse books it will be available again soon, but I couldn't wait. If you are thinking of buying this, you should also get "
The Tao of Long Life: The Chinese Art of Ch'ang Ming (Taoist Arts of the Lee Style)" by the same author - Chee Soo. The two books together make a complete whole. I don't know why they are sold as two separate books, together they explain the Taoist way to a healthy life. I don't think that everything you'll read is actually scientifically true or proven, but if you are interested in Taoism you should live it, not just think about it! These two books would be interesting to anyone who has a copy of '
Tao Te Ching: A New English Version (Perennial Classics)' but wants to know what it all means on a practical level. 'The Ways of Healing' is an introduction to the various Chinese healing arts, so if you're looking for a complete manual on TCM, this isn't it. You won't become an instant healer or guru or whatever from studying this book, however you will probably improve your health - mentally, spiritually and physically. If you practise T'ai Chee, and Chee Soo is a master of the art, then you'll want to have this this book (as well as
The Chinese Art of T'ai Chi Ch'uan), however this is not a book for 'new-agers' it won't get you stoned or teach you secrets about psychedelic herbs, it's a practical manual for the person who is interested in keeping healthy without having to visit the doctor. Read it with an open mind, there is little 'science' and a lot of hearsay. But it seems to work.
